Abstract

The aim to be reached in writing this article is to inform the readers on how SPADA as one of instructional media based technologies today is effective to increase the quality of the learners in their self-regulated learning. In recent years, technology has increasingly developed with its widespread use in the economy, tourism and even education in the world. The existance of technology-based media in teaching and learning activities is needed to accompany the increasingly modern era of globalization. One of the technology-based media used in education is e-learning media. E-learning is a type of teaching and learning that allows the delivery of teaching materials to learners using the internet, intranet or other computer network media (Hartley, 2001). With this technology-based media, teaching and learning activities that previously only took place on campus or school, can be conducted anywhere and anytime, not limited by space and time. One of the e-learning media on campus is SPADA (Online Learning System). This system is developed to answer some of the challenges of higher education and organize learning without limits. The use of the SPADA website as a utilization of learners' self integration means how the use of SPADA can facilitate learners to practice their self-regulated learning. It means that by using SPADA, the learners are expected to increase their learning activities autonomously. By doing so, the lecturers/teachers only need to give their learners the lesson materials and perhaps some assignments then the rest of learning process will be left entirely to the learners, giving them freedom to pick their own learning pace. In this case, SPADA as one of instructional media based technologies is effective to improve the quality of the learners’ self-regulated learning.

This research aimed to observe the effect of grammar-focused writing instruction on the tenth-grade students' writing recount text at one of the Senior High School State at Kabupaten Tangerang. The research method used in this research was a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design by using a non-equivalent control group design. The population of this research was 460 tenth grade students. The sample of this research was taken from two classes that were chosen by using Simple Random Sampling. There were X IPS 4 as the controlled class and X IPS 5 as the experimental class. The normality test result showed that the data is normally distributed, and the homogeneity test result showed that the variants belong to a homogeneous population. The analysis results of post-test by using t-test (The Pooled Variance Model T-test) were obtained data that t-count = 4,37 and t-table = 1,99 with significant level ɑ = 5% or 0,05. From the post-test calculation result, H0 is rejected, and H1 is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a significant effect of students’ writing recount text between students in the experimental class who were taught by using grammar-focused writing instruction and students in the controlled class who were taught by using the conventional method.

The researchers used group investigation technique as one of alternatives in teaching and learning to develop the material and make students more active and interested in class. The objective of this research is to find out whether teaching using group investigation technique is able to develop the students’ reading in recount text at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Kota Serang. The methodology of this research was a quantitative research method by using true experimental design. The study was carried out into two classes, Class VIII E as experimental class, and Class VIII C as control class. The results of the study showed that group investigation was able to develop students’ reading comprehension in recount text. Mean of posttest score of the experimental class (67.31) was higher than the control class (64.18). Based on the statistical analysis using t-test analysis, it showed the value of tcount ≥ ttable = 49.12 ≥ 1.99. It means that (Ha) was accepted and the (H0) was rejected. It can be concluded that group investigation is able to develop students’ reading comprehension in recount text at eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Kota Serang.

Abstract

Facing the industrial revolution 4.0, Indonesian citizens are challenged to be ready to feel some changes in many sectors including education sector. That is why Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Mathla’ul Anwar University of Banten, a study programme which will prepare the graduates for industrial era 4.0 should start designing a learning process in order to create the graduates who are ready to face technology era that will be headed. This learning process innovation can be started by changing the learning paradigm from Teacher Centered Learning (TCL) to Student Centered Learning (SCL). One of technique that can be used is POGIL (Process-oriented guided-inquiry learning). It is a collaborative learning (cooperative, integrated inquiry, metacognitive). To make POGIL technique work optimally, it can be done by doing some learning activities of Lesson Study. Lesson study is an educator profession guiding model through learning assessment collaboratively and sustainably according to collegiality principals and mutual learning to improve the learning quality and learning community. Learning activities through the POGIL technique, are thought to be able to help improve the metacognition skills of English language education students, one of which is by seeing the results of the level of student activity while studying. This research is aimed to find out the student’s activity by using POGIL technique through learning activities of Lesson Study. The research question of this article is how to increase student learning activities with the POGIL technique through LSLC? This research is descriptive statistical analysis. The populations in this research are 25 university students who take English Education Course. The data collecting technique was done by using questionnaire. After data collecting, normality testing was done by using Shapiro-Wilk testing (because the population is less than 100) with signification degree α = 5%, followed by T one-sample test.According to data processing result done by using SPSS version 25, it is concluded that the average is 82,24 and deviation standard is 4,47. Then the normality test is applied and we get Sig. for 0,549, because the amount of Sig. is more than 0,05 so that data has normal distribution. Then T one-sample test is applied, and we get tcount=1,734 at the significant level 5%. The number of ttable got from t distribution table with dk=25 is 1,708. So, according to the result of data processing and t distribution table, it is known that the score of tcount=1,734 > ttable=1,708 at the significant degree 5%. It can be concluded that by POGIL technique application through Lesson Study activity, 80% students become more active in learning activity process at the class.
