Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membantu mahasiswa hukum Unmas Denpasar berbicara bahasa Inggris melalui penerapan teknik mengajar carousel activity. Tiga puluh orang mahasiswa dipilih sebagai subjek penelitian ini. Mereka dipilih karena mereka memiliki beberapa kesulitan ketika berbicara bahasa Inggris. Penelitian menggunakan model penelitian tindakan kelas dengan dua siklus, yang masing-masing terdiri dari empat sesi. Data penelitian ini diambil dari tes lisan, angket dan catatan harian peneliti. Adapaun hasil yang diperoleh yakni keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris mahasiswa hukum cukup meningkat; dan sikap dan motivasi mereka terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris juga cukup positif. Penelitian ini memberikan bukti mengenai pembelajaran bahasa Inggris menggunakan carousel activity. Kata kunci: carousel activity, kemampuan berbicara, mahasiswa hukum

Abstract

ABSTRACT The ability to English speaking needs to understand by students in the level of university to face the global challenge nowadays. This research applied the ability English speaking student by shadowing technique. This research has been researched by researcher before in listening and speaking. The different of this research is the research before made the student group as a subject research however on the contrary of this research analyzing the student as individual to look the implementation English speaking and fluency by shadowing technique. This research was descriptive analysis that finding English speaking and difficult words to speak in the English text material. The sample data of student was the student from English study program Dhyana Pura University in the 3rd semester by the year of academic 2016/2017. The method of this research in the collecting data was descriptive analysis method also the technique of collecting data by the process of English speaking teaching and documentation. The result of this research was 11 from 13 students English study program in the 3rd semester by the year of academic 2016/2017 was fluent to understand English speaking and the rest of 2 students had incorrectly to speak in English was the word caught – [kɔ:t]. Based on this research, need a concern to all lecturers or tutors to teach English speaking to students and one of them by using the shadowing technique.   Keywords: Shadowing, Speaking, Individual, Word

Abstract

ABSTRAKSI   Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui tingkat pengaruh sistem pembelajaran berbasis konteks kehidupan sehari-hari melalui perekaman vidio terhadap kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris. Desain penelitian menggunakan pendekatan pra-eksperimen dengan model tes awal-tes akhir kelompok tunggal. Siswa SMPN 3 Kuta Selatan merupakan sumber data yang dikumpulkan melalui metode probality random sampling dengan jumlah sampel 36 peserta didik dari 6 kelas yang ada. Tes awal berupa unjuk kerja berbicara bahasa Inggris diberikan untuk mengetahui kemampuan awal mereka. Kemudian diberikan perlakuan dengan model pembelajaran yang inovatif melalui perekaman vidio yang mana materinya mengacu pada konteks kehidupan nyata. Untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran terhadap kemampuan siswa, mereka diberikan tes akhir berupa unjuk kerja. Berdasarkan pengamatan hasil, penelitian ini menunjukan nilai rerata tes awal hanya 43.22 dan nilai rerata pos tes untuk mengukur  tingkat keefektifan tindakan adalah 51.11. Dengan menggunakan t-test dapat ditemukan bahwa t-observed dengan tingkat signifikansi 0.05, yaitu 4.63 lebih tinggi dari t-table yaitu 2.03, maka hipotesa penelitian ini diterima yaitu  sistem pembelajaran berbasis kehidupan sehari-hari melalui perekaman vidio memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa. Ini dapat diperkuat dari data tambahan hasil wawancara dan kuesioner yang mana mereka merasa proses pembelajaran lebih menarik dan menantang.   Kata Kunci: pembelajaran otentik, kontekstual, komunikatif

Abstract

ABSTRACT                                                                   The usage of preposition in Indonesian sentences may also happen in English sentences because preposition is part of both grammars. The forms of preposition that applied in Indonesian language and also applied in English language are simple preposition and complex preposition.             Generally, preposition is determined by the constituent that follows, such as noun, verb, and adjective, and also its meaning. This rule is in both language, Indonesian and English. Therefore sometimes, there is one preposition is translated into some prepositions in English, where it depends on the meaning of the preposition.     The scope discussions of this research are the translations of preposition di- and pada- into English by using the translations of 40 grade sixth students of Cerdas Mandiri Primary School, in school year 2010 – 2011 and analyze the meaning of preposition and the translation forms used. This research used qualitative method where the data were preposition di- and pada- and their translations in English. The students were asked to translate an Indonesian text ‘Pantai Kuta’ into English. The data then were analyzed by using the theoretical framework and also were explained in description.               The general results of this research were preposition in and at were the general translations for preposition di- and pada-. But their usages in sentences could be determined by their meanings that were place and time. Preposition di- had dominantly meaning of place in its translation and also in SL, meanwhile preposition pada- had the meaning of place and time in SL but was commonly used to state the meaning of time in English. For the form of translation, it was formal equivalence used most of the time than textual equivalence with the purpose of trying to follow the system of the sentence in SL in translating it into TL to avoid delivering incorrect meaning.   Key words: Simple preposition, Translation, Source language, Target Language.

Abstract

                                                                    Abstrak         Kesantunan sama dengan tata krama atau etiket yaitu tata cara, adat atau kebiasaan yang berlaku dalam suatu masyarakat beradab untuk memelihara hubungan baik antara sesama manusia. Kesantunan merupakan aturan perilaku yang ditetapkan dan disepakati bersama oleh suatu masyarakat tertentu sehingga kesantunan sekaligus menjadi persyaratan yang disepakati dalam perilaku sosial. Selain itu juga, kesantunan sangat kontekstual, yakni berlaku dalam suatu masyarakat, tempat, atau situasi tertentu, tetapi belum tentu berlaku bagi masyarakat, tempat atau situasi lain. Sehingga dalam intrekasi agar terjalin situasi harmonis tetap berpegang pada Latar fisik dan Psikologis ( Setting n Scene), Peserta tutur ( Partisipants), Tujuan Tutur ( Ends), Urutan Tindak ( Acts), Nada Tutur ( Keys), Saluran Tutur ( Instruments), Norma Tutur (Norms) dan Jenis Tutur ( Genres) dan disingkat menjadi SPEAKING. Pada tuturan wisatawan Jepang dapat dilihat nilai santun walau dalam statusnya sebagai tamu yang datang kepulau Bali untuk menikmati liburan tetap berpegang teguh pada norma santun dengan tujuan untuk menjalin hubungan yang baik antara wisaatan Jepang dengan berbagai pihak pariwisata khususnya staf gro di lingkungan kantaor cabang His Rimba Jimbaran. Abstract

Abstrak Studi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis fonologi generatif dalam proses terjemahan text bilingual pada buku yang berjudul “English for midwives: Practical Guidance for Antenatal care”. Tujuan khusus peneliatian ini adalah untuk menemukan gambaran-gambaran proses fonologi pada prosedur terjemahan pinjaman dan kalke dengan menggunakan pendekatan fonologi generatif. Terdapat beberapa teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, diantaranya adalah Teori Prosedur Terjemahan oleh Vinay and Darbelnet (in Venuti,2000), teori fonologi generatif oleh Schane (1973), dan teori morfofonologi oleh  Chaer (2013). Adapun hasil dari penelitian ini adalah (i) Secara umum terjemahan istilah khusus kebidanan memiliki ciri yang menonjol pada pemunculan vokal /i/. (ii) Pelesapan bunyi istilah-istilah terjemahan kebidanan ini memiliki kecendrungan melesapkan segmen terakhir seperti berikut ini. Ruas /on/ atau /ous/ yang menjadi pengakhir kata-kata berikut ini dilesapkan setelah didahului bunyi vokal /i/. (iii) Kata-kata terjemahan istilah kebidanan atau medis terlihat bahwa dari ciri fonologisnya yang mengubah bunyi vokal dan pengubahan ini menurut teori fonologi generatif dapat dimasukkan ke dalama kategori pengenduran atau pelemahan bunyi vokal. (iv) Kata /menstrual/ menjadi [ menstruasi] mengalami penguatan atau ketegangan vokal  bunyi /i/ karena pelepasan fonem /l/ dan penambahan bunyi [ si ] pada terjemahan bahasa Indonesianya atau bahasa targetnya (BST). (v) Dalam terjemahan Bahasa Inggris ke Bahasa Indonesia terdapat kata yang mengandung proses perpaduan vokal. (vi) Dalam terjemahan istilah khusus kebidanan medis terdapat kata yang mengalami proses monoftongisasi. (vii) Istilah terjemahan kebidanan dalam Bahasa Indonesia terdapat penyingkatan bentuk-bentuk bahasa yang digunakan. Hal ini dilakukan untuk kemudahan dalam komunikasi medis. (viii) Istilah terjemahan kebidanan dalam Bahasa Indonesia terdapat proses penghilangan satu fonem atau lebih pada akhir kata.   Kata Kunci: Terjemahan, Istilah Kebidanan, Fonologi Generatif

Abstract

ABSTRACT   Bali is always trying to improve itself in aspects of tourism especially in accommodation and services. In terms of service to tourists, communication is one of the most decisive factors. It encourages workers in tourism sector to have good communication skills, especially communication in English. This phenomenon requires the graduates in education and training institutions of hospitality and tourism to have good communication skills, especially communication in English. In this study, the student of STIPAR Triatma Jaya majoring in Hotel Acomodation Management was raised as an object of research. The analysis in this study was made to answer the following questions: (1) the problems were faced by students in speaking English in terms of pronunciation (phonology), and (2) to find some factors in hibiting students in learning to speak. Aim of this study is to improve learning quality of English speaking ability. Primary data and secondary data were used as the data source. Data collection was taken by doing observation in research location, and descriptive qualitative technique was used to analyse the data.  This research showed that students majoring in the Hotel Acomodation Management experienced problems during the lesson especially in communicate English pronounciation, it is still influenced by the magnitude ofthe first language or mother tongue. Some factors have limited the students in speaking English, those factors are: components of linguistic mastery, and mastery of the content component, and environmental conditions during the learning process for example, the conditions where there was a little open space in the class room resulting the inclusion of sounds that interfere the process of learning. Abstract

ABSTRACT   This study is focused on investigating the Balinese dance lexicon, especially for the verbs and nouns, based on Natural Semantic Metalanguage. This study is a qualitative research design. The data was collected through observation, interviews, and note taking. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. For the analysis, semantic primes of natural Semantic Metalanguage theory are applied. The data analysis based on the following data classification, semantic structure analysis and components mapping to find out meaning configuration. The research result shows that semantic primes are very helpful and powerful to describe unwell-known lexicon in specific genre of language use in some lexicon in Balinese dance, especially in verb and noun. . Abstract

ABSTRACT    This study aims to find out the problem that was faced by the students including the type of errors that made by the students Year Intake 2013 Dual Degree Program STIKOM Bali in writing using English language. Besides that, this study aims to offer the Lesson Plan in writing based on the result of the analysis of this study. This study used the theory of English Grammar, and Error Analysis. The data of this study was from the students’ writing. There were 10 students as the sample in this study by using the collecting data method of quantitative method. There were 104 errors in active sentence of Simple Past tense as the findings of this study. This is the most error of the students. Then the error in using passive Simple Past was 8 errors. The last category of error was the error in using the Past Continues tense. It was found only 1 error for this category. Based on the Comparative Taxonomy, the source of the students’ error was the interference of their mother tongue or it is called as an Interlingual error. At last, the lesson plan was designed based on the result of the analysis of this study. It is expected to help the students in understanding the English writing to minimize the error. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to find out the common use of present tenses in the students’ writings and the difficulties they faced in using those tenses. The students under concern were the first-semester students of the academic year 2016 taking “English 1” subject at Bali STIKOM Regular Program. This study used the theory of English Grammar and theory of Contrastive Analysis. The English Grammar theory was used to identify and analyze the use of present tenses in the students’ sentences, while the theory of contrastive analysis was used to analyze the students’ difficulties in using those tenses in their writings.  The result of the analysis shows that of the 34 student writings under analysis. 77.4% use simple present tense, 10% present perfect tense, 6.9% present continuous tense, and 5.7% present perfect continuous tense. There are some difficulties faced when using the present tenses. The students seem to ignore the function of the adverb as the basis for deciding the proper forms of the verbs to be used. The students also find it difficult to add ‘-s’ or ‘-es’ accordingly to the infinitive verbs to show agreement with the subjects of the sentences being constructed. In addition, they still show lack of understanding of the function of each type of the present tenses.    Keywords: Sentence, Present Tenses
