Abstract

Teachers’ belief is an element that influences teachers’ decisions in their activities in the classroom. Researchers have formulated theories to conceptualize teachers’ knowledge and a fundamental belief in their teaching and developed methods to unpack them. ’Bumpy moments’ has been indicated as a potential method to uncover teachers’ belief in their natural setting. This study aims at developing an understanding of primary school teachers’ beliefs which underlie their decision in their classroom setting. The research used bumpy moments as a method. One primary school teacher who participated in this research were videotaped while she was teaching. The researchers and teacher watched their recorded teaching and the teacher was interviewed by using unstructured interview protocol. The research question was answered by running qualitative research to the primary school teacher. The research demonstrated that there are teacher beliefs held by the teacher. This can be seen in 1) beliefs in experience and ability in using media and methods in teaching, 2) beliefs in good teaching skills because understanding the students 'emotional dynamics in class and understanding the students' thought processes in learning, 3) beliefs in experiences in learning pedagogical knowledge in teaching. Bumpy moments methods were a potential method to be developed in Indonesian contexts.

Abstract

Studying in a university outside hometown is one of the common way for high school graduates to get access to a better quality of higher education. These new students settle down in new surroundings much different from their respective homes. They adapt to adjust to the new situation. This research aims to understand dynamics of self adjustment of the students during their study in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (Special Province of Yogyakarta). The method used in the research was qualitative phenomenology. The writer found that there were five factors that play roles in the adjustment, which are: (1) support; (2) obstacle; (3) character; (4) intrapersonal; and (5) interpersonal.

Abstract

Parent involvement is a concept which includes children’s education. Research and theories suggest that parent involvement can predict children’s achievement goal. The aims of this research is to know whether parent involvement can predict the children’s achievement goal. Yogyakarta high-school students (185 males and 379 females) were selected to fill in two questionnaires which assessed both their perceptions of parent involvement and the students’ achievement goals. SEM analyses showed that the model was fit to explain the correlation between parent involvement and achievement goal. Results of this study revealed that parent involvement is a predictor of students’ achievement goals. Parent involvement had an indirect effect on mastery goals and performance goals also in approach and avoidance. Parent involvements’ effect on performance is higher than the effect on mastery. Parent involvements’ effect on approach is higher than the effect on avoidance. Implications of these findings for students’ achievement goal and academic achievement are discussed.

Abstract

The industrial world is transforming towards the era of revolution 4.0 and society 5.0. In this era, digital technology is applied and becomes the center of human life. Demand that the millennial generation who currently dominates the job market in Indonesia have adversity intelligence so that they can be more engaged in their work and have a positive impact on company performance and development. This study aims to determine the relationship between adversity intelligence and work engagement in the millennial generation. Subjects in this study were 214 employees, aged 20-39 years who live in Yogyakarta and have worked at least one year. The data collection method in this study uses a Likert scale model. Data were collected using the Work Engagement Scale and the Adversity Intelligence Scale, by sending the scale via Google Form to respondents. The data analysis technique used is the product-moment correlation from Karl Pearson. Based on the data analysis, the correlation coefficient (R) was obtained for 0.820 (p <0.01). These results indicate that there is a very significant positive relationship between adversity intelligence and work engagement among millennial employees living in Yogyakarta. This study provides an overview of the level of work engagement and adversity intelligence for millennial generation employees, so as to increase the work engagement of millennial generation employees by increasing their adversity intelligence.

Abstract

Bathing skill was an important skill that should be possessed by intellectual disability children so that they become independent. The result of preliminary study indicates that mothers of the intellectual disability did not have knowledge and skills in teaching children’s bathing skill so they often help their children to take a bath. Based on the matter, it requires a guide to improve mothers’ knowledge and skill in teaching bath skill for intellectual disability children. This research is aimed to perform the validation of MENTARI guide through content validation with professional judgment and empirical validation which uses one-group pretest-posttest. Wilcoxon’s Signed Rank Test was utilized to test the score difference between knowledge and skill of teaching intellectual disability children to take a bath themselves. Nine mothers who have intellectual disability children become the participants. The research result indicates that MENTARI guide was contently and empirically valid. The guide has also satisfying content validity (Aiken’s V= 0,80-0.98). The data analysis which utilizes Wilcoxon’s Signed Rank Test indicates that there was an increase of score of bathing teaching knowledge and skill with Z =-2,670 and p<0.05 for knowledge score and Z value = 2,670 and p< 0.05 for bathing teaching skill score.
