Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe how the communication strategy in student’s written text which included paraphrasing strategies, borrowing strategies and avoidance strategies. This research was a qualitative research with a socio-psycho-structural approach. The research data were verbal data in the form of data: (1) written fiction narrative, (2) interview transcription, and (3) observation notes. The data were analyzed by interactive analysis by Tarone’s comunication strategies. The result of the research showed that in solving the communication problem, Arabic language learners used the strategy based on the language between the Indonesia or the Javanese language, by generalizing the forms, creating paraphrases, creating words, and reconstructing sentences. Some of the communication strategies which were employed by learners were: (a) paraphrasing strategies, (b) borrowing strategies, and (c) avoidance strategies. Paraphrasing strategies were implemented through approximation techniques, creating or substituting word coinage, and using circumlocution. Borrowing strategies were done through the use of literal translation strategies, code mixes, requests for help, and use of mimic or gestures. Avoidance strategy was used through the process of avoidance of the use of language phrases that had not been properly mastered or avoid certain topics that would complicate the speaker in expressing the purpose of the speech.

Abstract

Enhancing the skills of Arabic-speaking hosts in Indonesia is very important. This study aimed to describe the development process, the validity level, and the effectiveness of "KupANCAR: A Guidebook and a Collection of Arabic-Speaking Host Texts". The KUPANCAR book has innovations in theoretical and practical material, a collection of updated texts, and a QR Code of interesting videos of Arabic-language hosts. This research and development method was The results of the Paired Samples Test revealed that p = 0.000 0.05, the pre-test score reached 0.121, and the post-test score reached 0.114. Thus, it can be summed up that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. It means the student's Arabic speaking skills increased significantly after using KUPANCAR.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe how to implement fun learning Arabic speaking using kinemaster video and measure its effectiveness. This research was conducted with a grounded theory qualitative approach. The implementation of this method was carried out on students in grades VII–XI of MTs Muhammadiyah Depok. Methods of data collection included interviews (with the school) and observations (of students' learning conditions).Meanwhile, the data analysis method used three steps, namely data reduction, analysis, and conclusion. The results of this study stated that this fun learning Arabic speaking skills was stimulated by kinemaster video. All materials were included in the video of the drilling process being carried out. After the implementation of the activities, students considered Arabic to be fun, increasing their score to 67% from the initial 33% who thought that learning Arabic was fun. The incoming data said that learning Arabic was very difficult. The meaning was down from the original 65%, while those who think Arabic was boring fell to 31% from the original 69%, and the data also showed a decrease in the very monotonous Arabic learning method, which was originally 63%, now only 37%. These results indicated that the improvement of students' speaking skills should be accompanied by interesting and fun learning methods.

Abstract

The difficulty of practical media makes educators not innovate in the learning process, especially in delivering subject matter. Even though the technology is beneficial for this, one of which is the Smart App Creator application. Smart App Creator is very easy to use by educators because this application is a user interface; easy to understand. This research was conducted to determine the benefits of a Smart App Creator software in making learning media. This research method was qualitative with a library model; analyzed national and international journals and interview models; interviewed three teachers and nine students at different Islamic junior high schools. The results of this study explained that learning media designed using Smart App Creator software can provide motivation and foster enthusiasm for learning of students because this software contains elements of text, audio, video, and animation that are combined in one media; what's interesting is that this application can be opened. On a laptop or computer without installing the main application and can also be installed on an Android smartphone and has the advantage of not being connected to the Internet.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the dimensions of the text of the Teun A Van Dijk' model in the text discourse online news “the decline in refinery profits threatens to increase oil prices”. The rise of online media news coverage regarding the decline in refinery profits threatening the increasing oil prices interests the researchers in analyzing the discourse because the author considers that no mass media is completely neutral and objective. This research used a qualitative descriptive method with Teun A Van Dijk’s theoretical framework of critical discourse analysis, because the Van Dijk’s model also looks at the social cognition of the unit of observation and the social context in which the unit of observation occurs. The result of the research revealed that most of the dimensions of the text structure were met.  Social analysis that is obtained was the decrease in refinery profits will cause new problems in public social life. For the textual analysis of macrostructure elements, the topic described a common theme of this online news which is "petroleum". In this news discourse, several elements of the microstructure were found in the form of background, detail, intent, coherence, conditional coherence, sentence form, and presuppositions.

Abstract

Indonesia is currently trying to reorganize the education system post-pandemic by using  hybrid learning system. In this hybrid learning process, lecturers are required to grow and develop their  creativity. This article described the mapping of the model of second language teaching lecturers both English and Arabic at Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang on creativity in teaching, in particular to find out how well they understand the concept of creativity and the implementation of creative teaching in the form of classroom activities. This method used was qualitative approach with the type of content analysis. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 21 second language lecturers, then the data were analyzed using Krippendorff content analysis. The results of this study indicated that second language lecturers had a comprehensive understanding of the demands of creativity in this post-pandemic, because they can clearly explained the meaning of creativity both in ideas and in its realization. In addition to understood creativity and its implementation in teaching activities, this research also showed the synergy between individual creativity as reflected in professional teaching and organizational creativity as seen from the readiness of this university to develop students' creative attitudes through support for campus facilities.

Abstract

The lesson plan was a stage of instruction that regulates learning activities in the classroom that can have a positive impact on students' abilities in certain subjects. The purpose of this study was to identify the need for lesson plans in essay writing courses through the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The study used a qualitative approach through the descriptive method. Participants were students in the 3rd semester of 2020/2021 and lecturer. It was conducted in Arabic Language Education at the State University of Jakarta. Data is taken from the document, interview, and questionnaire. The data analysis process used data reduction, data display, and taking a conclusion. The results show that the lesson plans that have been made still have weaknesses and do not meet the Arabic language mastery standards from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR) standards. However, the results of the study have implications for the level of understanding of the lecturer related to the concept of a lesson plan that must be designed to suit the needs of students, the current situation, and also students' understanding of each mastery of the material being studied.

Abstract

Learning Arabic language for novice students can be something difficult if they do not have a right motivation and teachers do not have a good approach. The Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction (ARCS) model of motivation should be applied to real-world educational settings, including computer-based learning approaches, to find more effective ways of understanding the major influences on learning motivation and for systematic ways of identifying and solving problems with learning motivation. This study aimed to improve the motivation of students in Arabic language learning through learning management system and to improve students’ outcome of Arabic speaking skills. This classroom action research was conducted two cycles (repeated five times). Each cycle referred to Spiral Model by Kemmis, McTaggart, and Nixon. The subjects were 39 students of C Class and D Class in Kalam Ibtida’i Course at academic year 2021-2022 in the Department of Arabic, Faculty of Letters, Universitas Negeri Malang, Indonesia. The data of students’ motivation were obtained from performance grading rubric of the relevance component of the ARCS Model and the data of students’ outcome in Arabic language learning were obtained from students worksheet assesment and end-of-cycle Arabic speaking test. The results showed the improving of: (1) the motivation of students in Arabic language learning through learning management system and (2) the students’ outcome of Arabic speaking skills. This ARCS Model was effectively used for this Kalam Ibtida’I course because novice students need good motivation to learn Arabic speaking skills.

Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic has caused many pros and cons which are mainly represented in the news in the mass media. Therefore, this study aims to observe how the mass media from Arab countries represent their position towards the Covid-19 pandemic through the news they release. In this study, the data is retrieved from Aljazeera and Al-Ahram. To find out their thoughts and opinions regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, the representative speech act framework presented by Yule (1996) and Searle (1979) is used. Meanwhile, the descriptive-analytical method on that news is relied, starting from providing data, classifying, analyzing, and presenting the results of the analysis. The result shows that there are four types of representative speech acts found in the Arabic news discourse, they are statement of fact, assertion, conclusion, and description. The writers represent their thoughts and opinions by choosing certain verbs or cognate objects, either agreeing or disputing some opinions, as well as citing various news sources or events that are considered valid and credible. Moreover, the comparison of the results from the two news sources did not show a significant difference because the language of these two newspapers is the Modern Standard Arabic (MSA).

Abstract

Greeting words are the most widely used words in daily communication. Many greetings are taken from the kinship term. Each language has different kinship terms based on its culture. This study aims to describe (1) the Arabic kinship term, (2) the Indonesian kinship term, and (3) the similarities and differences between the Arabic and Indonesian kinship terms. This research is a qualitative research with contrastive and anthropolinguistic analysis approaches. The data of this research are the vocabulary of kinship terms in Arabic and Indonesian which are taken from various sources. The results are (1) Arabic kinship terms are more varied than Indonesian, (2) Arabic kinship terms have syntactic markers to distinguish between terms for male and female, (3) based on the patrilineal system applies to the Arab community, Arabic distinguishes between terms for father's line and mother's line, (4) in Indonesian, there are terms that are differentiated by age, (5) in terms of nature, the kinship term in Arabic is descriptive, while in Indonesian is descriptive and classified, (6) the terms of kinship in Arabic and Indonesian can be addressed to non-relatives so that both can be metaphorical.
