Komposisi: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa, Sastra, dan Seni is an international journal dedicated for the publication of scientific articles in language education, literature, and arts education. It was firstly published on March 2000 with ISSN 1411-3732 in 2007 by Faculty of Language Literature and Arts Universitas Negeri Padang. This journal had ever been changed into Jurnal Bahasa dan Seni during 2004-2013. In 2014 this journal is renamed as Komposisi: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa, Sastra, dan Seni applies open journal system (OJS) and peer-reviewed online journal in 2017 with Online ISSN 2548-9097.

Abstract

This paper aims to explain the development of musical instruments used in the ensemble of creative talempong and its influence on variations of songs played by these instruments. The development is seen from the musical instruments and the variation songs. The data were collected through a literature study related to the history and development of the ensemble of creative talempong, the musical instruments used, the songs sung and the context of performances that use creative talempong. The finding shows that the development of musical instruments used is tailored to the tastes and culture of local communities. The use of sound system, western musical instruments, and the use of chromatic tones in melody talempong gives an effect on increasing the variety of songs and genres that can be performed with creative talempong. Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of local communities in conservation efforts of Paseban manuscripts. This research uses dominant less-dominant design, which combines quantitative and qualitative approaches in one study. The data were obtained from field observations, interviews, and library studies. The results are the conservation efforts undertaken on manuscripts in surau Paseban were limited to activities to save the script and clean manuscripts from dust and dirt. There were no special conservation activities on these texts, and the activities tended to damage the manuscript. The recommendation is the community is more responsive to the presence and the values of the manuscripts so that the joint conservation activities can be done optimally. In addition, special attention from the government for handling the manuscripts is needed. Key words: conservative manuscripts, surau Paseban, conservation efforts

Abstract

Learners are the subject rather than object in the learning process. Therefore, the implementation of learning should be able to give responsibility to the learners in managing the acquisition and learning results. Similarly, in learning the Indonesian language, learning the language is not directed so that learners understand the rules of grammatical and literary, but are able to develop the potential that exists in itself related to the communicative potential of language. This goal can be achieved if the learning is done by using the right approach, especially for young children. One method suggested is a natural method. The use of this method is based on the theoretical basis of language that emphasizes the role of transformational linguistic semantics as a builder and an adhesive element of meaning, both at the level of morphology and syntax. Learning theory is the foundation of cognitive psychology that emphasizes the role of cognitive ability as the basis for the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes. The application of this method is very relevant to the language development of elementary-school-age children because the achievement of learning objectives is done naturally. To make the learning takes place naturally, in the process of learning, teachers are expected to be able to present comprehensible input as much as possible. The assistance provided is aimed to develop the ability to understand. Tool-visual aids, for example, can be used to perform the exposure of vocabulary. The focus of learning is listening and reading activities, while the ability to speak and write will evolve slowly and sustainably in line with the ability to understand it. To lower the affective filter, learners are directed to engage in meaningful communication, rather than on language forms. Correspondingly, the input that was developed by teacher should be an interesting and challenging input.. Key words: Natural Method, Second Language Learning, Early Education

Abstract

Ilau dance in Selayo still exists and if there is a man from this village who die in other villages or cities, and the body is rested in the wife or parents house, this dance might be performed. At the time of one hundred days after the man died, Ilau dance is performed to commemorate the good things done by this man. However, this depends also on the families whether they want this dance to be performed or not because they have to kill a cow as the requirement. Actually this is contrary to the religion of Islam, but now it is not a matter of the religion because it has become a culture for society of Selayo.. Key words: Ilau dance

Abstract

This article is written based on the research aiming at describing the duties and responsibilities of supervising teachers during the conduction of student-teaching program in the period of January-June 2010 by English department students. The data were the perceptions about the supervising teachers’ duties and responsibilities obtained from the questionnaires given to the student-teachers. Generally, the questionnaires asked the sample about the performing of duties and responsibilities by supervising teachers in three periods: observation, guided teaching and independent teaching period. Based on the data  it is found that although in the third (independent teaching) period the supervising teachers performed their duties and responsibilities well, both in the first (observation) and second (guided teaching) period the supervising teachers did not perform their duties and responsibilities as they should have been. Abstract

Honorific delivery strategy is an integral part of the Indonesian speech act speech of educated families from Makasar speech community. The strategy has a peculiarity. This study was conducted to get an overview and explanation of the delivery of honorific strategy in the speech act of prohibition delivered by educated families from Makasar speech community. This qualitative study uses the pragmatic theory design with ethnography of communication model. The results of this study indicate that the delivery of honorific prohibition strategy embodied in the speech acts of direct and indirect use of honorific alternatives varies with different contexts according to socio-cultural norm they have. Abstract

The goal of humanistic art education is to build a conducive atmosphere for learning and learning activities as self-exploration activities. To develop the potential of the learners, the renewal of education and learning for the sake of increasing the professionalism of educators is needed. Abstract

This research aims at identifying the effectiveness of the use of ‘content area strategy’ in teaching creative writing. Based on the action performed in the class it was found that the content area strategy was able to enhance students’ ability in writing short stories. The effectiveness was recognized from the average scores achieved in writing short stories both in describing the content of the story and the element of the story, and in language use..
