Komposisi: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa, Sastra, dan Seni is an international journal dedicated for the publication of scientific articles in language education, literature, and arts education. It was firstly published on March 2000 with ISSN 1411-3732 in 2007 by Faculty of Language Literature and Arts Universitas Negeri Padang. This journal had ever been changed into Jurnal Bahasa dan Seni during 2004-2013. In 2014 this journal is renamed as Komposisi: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa, Sastra, dan Seni applies open journal system (OJS) and peer-reviewed online journal in 2017 with Online ISSN 2548-9097.

Abstract

The importance of English language course to be taught in most universities in Indonesia resulted in a policy especially at Universitas Negeri Padang in providing English as a General Course (MKU-English) to be taught to students. The importance of learning material in MKU-English attracted the attention of researchers to analyze the needs of students related to teaching materials such as what is the suitable teaching material to be taught to large classes such as MKU which contains students from various departments. This needs analysis research aims to identify and explain the needs of students that will be as the initial foundation of development of teaching materials covering aspects of the topics, types of text, and skill and components of the language. The samples of this research were 381 students who were taking MKU-English in academic year 2017-2018. By analyzing the results of the questionnaire that has been disseminated, it was found that the students wanted a variety of topics. In addition, students need to learn the types of argumentative and descriptive texts to support their reading skills. In addition, teaching materials are also emphasized on the integration of language components such as grammar.

Abstract

Crafting in junior high school consists of some learning materials such as handcrafting, processing, engineering, and cultivating. The learning material that must be given junior high school students in Bukittinggi is crafting because it is appropriate with the conditions of the area that is close to the centers of handicrafts. In fact, the problem found from the observation was that the teachers generally (82,73%) are not from the art and craft education. The teachers who are from art or craft education will be easier to teach crafts than those who are not. Those who are not from art education got problems in the implementation of craft learning materials. It was happened because they did not master or did not have enough experience about it. Moreover, the junior high school teachers also lacked of learning strategies that are in line with the demands of the 2013 curriculum. As a result, the implementation of craft learning, especially craft materials, did not run well. The solution offered to solve the above-mentioned problems was the application of science and technology with several approaches; 1) designing, 2) counseling by presenting training material, 3) training in crafting and designing learning strategies, and 4) mentoring. The results of this activity were; 1) Most of junior high school teachers (77.77%) have mastered the craft materials given, especially makrame and woven crafts, 2) Most of them (88.88%) have mastered learning strategies that are in line with scientific approaches in the 2013 Curriculum. Keywords: Increasing teachers’ ability, craft learning, craft learning materials, learning strategies in 2013 curriculum

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan ideologi berita utama media online viva.co.id dan metrotvnews.com melalui struktur mikro yang dilihat dari penggunaan kata ganti dan pilihan kata. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian  kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Instrumen penelitian adalah  peneliti  sendiri dengan menggunakan alat bantu lembar pengumpulan data. Data penelitian ini adalah kalimat dan paragraf yang menunjukkan struktur mikro berita utama viva.co.id dan metrotvnews.com yang memuat topik yang sama. Sumber data penelitian adalah berita utama pada media online viva.co.id dan metrotvnews.com periode Januari 2016. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan membaca, memahami, dan melakukan pencatatan berita utama pada media online viva.co.id dan metrotvnews.com. Pengabsahan data dilakukan dengan teknik triangulasi. Analisis data dilakukan dengan membaca data, mengumpulkan berita yang memuat topik yang sama, mencatat kutipan-kutipan sesuai dengan struktur teks, mengelompokkan kutipan-kutipan tersebut, menjelaskan pendayagunaan, dan menyimpulkan hasil penelitian. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian, kata ganti yang digunakan dalam berita viva.co.id sengaja menciptakan kelompok imajinatif untuk membentuk solidaritas, aliansi, dan perhatian publik serta mengurangi kritik dan oposisi. Berbeda dengan metrotvnews.com yang berusaha menghilangkan jarak dan batas antara komunikator dan pembaca serta membentuk pendapat pribadi menjadi fikiran bersama. Berdasarkan struktur stilistik, viva.co.id membangun berita melalui pilihan kata dan kalimat yang baik agar pembaca mudah memahami informasi yang disampaikan dan menciptakan kesan positif dari setiap pemberitaan. Metrotvnews.com lebih cenderung mengungkapkan fakta secara terbuka kepada pembaca tanpa menyembunyikan realita melalui pilihan kata.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the students’ ability in studying Grammar especially Modality by using song. Modality as the topic provided in Grammar I that the researcher taught in academic year 2016 and 2017 needed serious concern because the students got difficulties to make the sentences by using modality so that the level of students’ scores in every exercise was in the range of low ability. In this case, the researcher used some songs which contain the lyrics with modality pattern and function as the teaching tool to overcome the students’ problems. The design of this research was descriptive design by using quantitative data because the researcher gave the students some tests to know whether song could increase their abilities in using modality. Then, the researcher described the data gotten from modality tests without manipulations. The result of teaching process and tests indicated that the students got better understanding in using modality and their abilities were significantly improved. It is hoped that the result of this research can motivate and make the other researchers who get the same difficulties in teaching Grammar aware to use song as teaching tool to improve students’ ability in Grammar subject.MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN MAHASISWA DALAM PENGGUNAAN MODALITY MELALUI LAGU DALAM PENGAJARAN GRAMMARAbstrakTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan kemampuan mahasiswa  dalam mempelajari Grammar khususnya pada topik Modality dengan menggunakan lagu. Modality merupakan topik dalam mata kuliah Grammar yang diajarkan pada tahun ajaran 2016 dan 2017 yang sangat membutuhkan perhatian khusus karena mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan untuk membuat kalimat dengan menggunakan Modality sehingga tingkat kemampuan mahasiswa rendah pada setiap latihan yang berhubungan dengan Modality. Karena hal ini, peneliti menggunakan beberapa lagu yang terdari dari lirik- lirik dengan pola- pola dan fungsi Modality sebagai alat pengajaran untuk mengatasii masalah yang dihadapi mahasiswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan menggunakan kuantitatif data karena peneliti memberikan beberapa kali tes untuk mengetahui apakah lagu dapat meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam penggunaan Modality. Kemudian peneliti mendeskripsikan data yang diperoleh darii beberapa tes tanpa adanya manipulasi. Hasil dari proses pengajaran dengan menggunakan lagu dan tes menunjukan bahwa mahasiswa memiliki pemahaman yang lebih bagus dalam penggunaan Modality dan kemampuan merekapun sangat meningkat. Sangat diharapkan bahwa hasil penelitian ini dapat memotivasi dan membuat penelitipeneliti lainnya yang mempunyai kesulitan yang sama dalam mengajar Grammar peduli untuk menggunakan lagu sebagai alat pengajaran agar dapat meningkatkan kemampuan Grammar mahasiswa.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the results of research on interaction patterns and characteristics of classroom interaction in teaching and learning activities in English class in Bukittinggi West Sumatera, as well as perceptions of students and teachers to the interaction. This research type is descriptive and research data is classroom discourse between teacher and student when studying English, as well as questionnaire of student and teacher to class interaction. Participants are 4 English teachers with 3 meetings for each teacher (12 meetings). The research used classification theory of class interaction type from Lindgren (1981), Wajnryb (1992), and El-Hanafi (2013), while for interaction characteristics used Flanders' Interaction Analysis Code (FIAC) model. The results of this study indicate that the dominant interaction pattern is teacher-student with one way traffic interaction, while the dominant interaction characteristic is the cross content. From teacher perception, dominant interaction pattern is student-student interaction and dominant interaction characteristic is teacher support. Whereas from student perception, dominant interaction pattern is teacher-student with two-way traffic interaction, and characteristic of dominant interaction is content cross. It can be concluded that the interaction pattern and the interaction characteristics that occur in the teaching and learning process are strongly influenced by the material and skills taught by the teacher

Abstract

This research is focused on fostering students’ critical thinking through Project-Based Learning. It is based on the findings of the previous studies which show that University students in Batam mostly  still have low quality of Critical Thinking. The design of the research was quasi-experimental research that want to find out the effect of Project Based Learning towards Criical Thinking of University students in Batam. To know students’Critical Thinking, this research uses Critical Thinking test. There are three pre tests and post tests. The pre-test were used to see students’ Critical Thinking before having treatment and posttest are used to see the differences on students critical thinking after giving treatments.The subjects were the students of English Department of Putera Batam University who took Speaking class. The data found that Project Based Learning has a significant effect on students' Critical Thinking skills. This conclusion can be seen based on the analysis that has been done where t observed > t table. t observed = 3,83 and t table 2.36 with standard significant 0,05.Thus, it can be concluded that Criticak thinking skills can be increased by using Project Based Learning method.Keyword: Empowering, Project Based Learning, Critical Thinking,University Students.MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN CRITICAL THINKING MAHASISWA DENGAN MENERAPKAN PROJECT BASED LEARNINGAbstrakPenelitian ini difokuskan pada pengembangan Critical Thinking mahasiswa melalui metode Pembelajaran Project Based Learning. Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuasi-eksperimental yang ingin mengetahui pegaruh pembelajaran Project Based Learning terhadap Criical Thinking mahasiswa di Batam. Untuk mengetahui kemampuan Critical Thinking mahasiswa, penelitian ini menggunakan tes Critical Thinking. Melalui tiga kali pre tes dan pos test. Pre-test digunakan untuk melihat kemampuan Critical Thinking sebelum menjalani perlakuan dan posttest digunakan untuk melihat perbedaan skor Critical Thinking pada mahasiswa setelah diberikan perlakuan. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa dari Jurusan Sastra Inggris Universitas Putera Batam yang mengambil kelas Speaking. Data yang ditemukan menunjukan bahwa Project Based Learning memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan Critical Thinking mahasiswa. Kesimpulan ini dapat dilihat berdasarkan analisis yang telah dilakukan dimana t tabel ˂ t yang observed. t observed = 3,83 dan t tabel 2,36 dengan standar signifikan 0,05. Jadi, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan Critical Thinking dapat ditingkatkan dengan menggunakan metode pembelajaran Project Based Learning.Kata Kunci: Meningkatkan,Project Based Learning,Critical Thinking,Mahasiswa

Abstract

This research article aims to explain and describe the relevance of novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2 with literary learning materials in high school. This study is a qualitative descriptive study with the object of research in the form of novel by Habiburrahman El Shirazy that is Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2. Technique of data collecting using purposive sampling technique according to subject matter. Data analysis techniques in this study are interactive models, including data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The conclusions are based on deductive techniques, which is to explain in general to the specific facts as the final conclusion. The result of this study is that it can be used as a literary learning material in SMA based on story structure and moral values that can be followed by studying students according to curriculum requirement. Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2 is full of fascinating values that can motivate students to achieve the highest education, religious, tolerant, not easily ignited issues and social life in the midst of a pluralistic Indonesian societyBERMEDIUMKAN SASTRA AYAT-AYAT CINTA 2 PEMBENTUK GENERASI PENERUS BANGSA YANG BERKARAKTER KUAT DAN CERDAS AbstrakArtikel penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan dan mendeskripsikan relevansi novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2 dengan materi pembelajaran sastra di SMA. Kajian ini merupakan kajian deskriptif kualitatif dengan objek penelitian berupa novel karya Habiburrahman El Shirazy yaitu Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik pusposive sampling sesuai dengan pokok permasalahan yang dikaji. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini adalah model interaktif, meliputi pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Simpulan dibuat berdasarkan teknik deduktif, yaitu menjelaskan secara umum menuju fakta-fakta khusus sebagai simpulan akhir. Hasil dari kajian penelitian ini adalah dapat dijadikanya novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2 sebagai materi pembelajaran sastra di SMA berdasarkan struktur cerita dan nilai moral yang dapat diteladani siswa dengan mengkajinya sesuai dengan tuntutan kurikulum. Ayat-Ayat Cinta 2 penuh dengan nilai-nilai pembangun jiwa yang dapat memotivasi siswa untuk mencapai pendidikan tertinggi, religius, bertoleransi, tidak mudah tersulut isu dan berjiwa sosial di tengah kondisi masyarakat Indonesia yang majemuk
