Abstract

The responsibility of nurses as nursing care providers is a factor that affects the mental workload. The mental workload of nurses as caregivers who have to work and interact with patients professionally for 24 hours would arise. It may because of continuous adaptation of time constraints in providing nursing care for 24 hours, unclear job demands, limited ability, lack of motivation and mood, and the psychological burden of the nurse. This study aimed to describe the mental workload in carrying out their role as the nursing care provider at eight inpatient wards, Sumedang public hospital. This research applied descriptive quantitative design. The mental workload was measured using the NASA-TLX instrument. The samples were 94 who works inpatient rooms, they were randomly selected through cluster sampling techniques. Analysis of the data was descriptive analysis. The results of the study showed that 67% of nursing nurses had a mental workload that was in the role of providing nursing care. Nurses have a high mental workload in providing nursing care in special surgical wards (53.8%) and child wards (50%). It is recommended that hospitals evaluate the work system of nurses to examine the physical, psychological and behavioral changes that occur to nurses. It is expected that nurses show good performance in carrying out their role as nursing care providers.

Abstract

Diabetes is a condition that the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body can’ effectively using insulin and its impact on disease complications. Physical exercise is one aspect of the management of diabetes that affects reducing the blood glucose rate. The objective of this research was to find the influence of the diabetes exercise on blood sugar rate at the Public Health Centers Mertoyudan II. This study was a quasiexperimental applying the non-equivalent control group. Respondents were 37 for the intervention group and 37 to the control group. The diabetes exercise performed six times within two weeks. The result found that the paired t-test result with a significance level (α) 95 % was p-value = 0,001. There were significant differences in the decreasing average of the blood sugar rate between the intervention and the control group. Further research is needed by increasing the intervention to become three times per week for 4 weeks’ intervention.

Abstract

A large number of patient visits to the Emergency Department (ED) will influence the outcome of the services provided. The triage scale is one method designed to manage patient screening for quality service improvement. Several triage scales are employed internationally in the EDs including the Australasian Triage Scale (ATS), the Manchester Triage System (MTS), the Canadian Triage and Accuracy Scale (CTAS), and the Emergency Severity Index (ESI). Several studies have a concern to identify the reliability of the triage scale, but only a few of them identified the accuracy of the triage scale. The purpose of this literature review was to identify the best reliability and accuracy among ATS, MTS, CTAS, and ESI based on the literature. The literature search was conducted on electronic databases EBSCO and PubMed with keywords including (triage OR emergency department triage) AND reliability AND ((the Canadian Triage and Accuracy Scale OR CTAS) AND (the Australasian Triage Scale OR ATS) AND (the Manchester Triage System OR MTS) AND the Emergency Severity Index OR ESI)). Assessment of articles was composed based on the PRISMA format with criteria including primary research articles containing the reliability and accuracy of the triage scale in English and published between 2009 – 2019. A total of 271 publications were identified and only 10 studies were included in this literature review. The results reveal that ATS has a moderate level of reliability (k = 04 – 0.57) with an accuracy of 46.2% – 58.3%, CTAS has a good level reliability (k = 0.770) with accuracy of 49%, MTS have good to excellent level of reliability (k = 0.61 – 0.95) with accuracy of 49%, and ESI have moderate to excellent level reliability (k = 0.45 – 0.94) with accuracy of 59.6 % – 72.5%. Based on this review, MTS and ESI are the triage scale with the highest reliability and accuracy. Therefore, MTS and ESI are highly recommended in the ED. However, each EDs need to pay attention to the characteristics, culture, and available resources before choosing and implementing an appropriate triage scale.

Abstract

Background. Self-efficacy needed by Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) patients as a first step in managing the disease. Education is given as an effort to increase patients’ self-efficacy, but the media for education is limited. The workbook is an educational media that would encourage patients’ roles, overcome obstacles and increase the self-efficacy of CHD patients. Purpose. This study aimed to determine the differences in self-efficacy of CHD patients before and after the health education using a workbook. Method. This study was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test post-test control group design. The samples were 19 patients in the CICU room at a hospital in the city of Bandung that chosen using a purposive sampling technique. The intervention group received health education using media workbooks (n=9) and then another group was the control group (n=10). Self-efficacy was measured using a questionnaire Self-efficacy CHD Management. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution and bivariate using Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney tests. Results. The study found p-value from the Wilcoxon test in the intervention group was 0.008 (p <0.05) while the control group was 0.102 (p> 0.05). The results of the Mann Whitney test showed that before the intervention, the p-value between the intervention group and the control group was 1,000 (p> 0.05), whereas after the intervention the p-value between the two groups was 0.040 (p <0.05). Conclusion. Based on the results of the study, there are significant differences in self-efficacy between the two groups. The health education method using a workbook can be used to improve the self-efficacy of CHD patients.
