Abstract

This paper presents a maximum power point (MPP) tracking method based on a hybrid combination between the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) and the conventional Perturb-and-Observe (P&O) method. The proposed algorithm utilizes the FLC to initialize P&O algorithm with an initial duty cycle.  MATLAB/Simulink models consisting of, the photovoltaic system, boost converter and controllers, are built to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. To accurately illustrate the performance of the proposed algorithm, comparisons with standalone FLC and P&O are carried out. The performance of the proposed algorithm is investigated difficult weather conditions including sudden changes and partial shading. The results showed that the proposed algorithm successfully reaches MPP in all scenarios.

Abstract

This paper presents a circuit configuration of five-level PWM voltage-source inverter developed from the three-level H-bridge inverter using only a single DC input power source. In the proposed five-level inverter, an auxiliary circuits working as the voltage balancing circuits of the inverter’s DC capacitors is presented. The auxiliary circuits work to keep stable DC capacitor voltages of the inverter, and also to reduce the capacitor size of the inverter. The unique point of the proposed balancing circuits is that it needs only a single voltage sensor to control the voltages of the two capacitors in the inverter. Moreover, a minimum number the inverter’s switching devices is also an important feature of the proposed inverter topology. A simple proportional integral controller is applied to control the voltage of the DC capacitors. The proposed topology is tested through computer simulation using PSIM software. Laboratory experimental tests were also conducted to verify the proposed inverter circuits. The computer simulation and experimental test results showed that the proposed balancing circuits works properly keeping stable voltages across the two DC capacitors of the inverter using only a single voltage sensor. The inverter also works well to synthesize a five-level PWM voltage waveform with sinusoidal load current.

Abstract

In this paper described the effect of frequency and duty cycle of the PWM power supply LED bulb light efficacy. Efficacy LED bulb is measured by measuring the light flux and power consumed at standard conditions, the bulb is supplied directly from the network. Then efficacy, the luminous flux and power the bulb is also measured under the conditions given PWM power supply at some frequency and duty cycle value. In the same light flux levels between the two treatment, the use of PWM power supply can increase the efficacy of the light bulb up to 66.2%, with a value of 117.52 light efficacy lumen / Watt. At the level of light flux which is slightly lower, the use of PWM power supply to the LED bulb with a specific frequency and power supply can achieve the efficacy of 397.14 lumens / Watt

Abstract

This paper deals with the problem of estimation of rotor angular position for the indirect pulse-vector control of wound rotor induction motor drive. The paper considers issues of thematic justification and expanding of the field of using sensorless motor drives. With a view to improve energy consumption readings during design and modernization of motor drives of massive mechanisms with moderate standards for accuracy of velocity control, requiring long-term velocity decrease during load reduction (according to technological process conditions), using the system of the pulse-vector control of wound rotor induction motor is suggested. The paper provides the solution for the problem of developing math models of this motor drive system both for the motor-mounted sensor, and for indirect angular position sensing. The models were developed in ANSYS Electromagnetics Suite using the finite element method for studying electromagnetic processes. Based on the models, the investigation of transition and steady states of a motor drive was carried out, process quality parameters were obtained, namely: max and root-mean-square currents, torques; velocity control errors caused by pulse operation mode. From that simulation, the result illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract

This paper presents a new resistant control method for synchronized connection of FACTS & HVDC aiming to get the stability of small signal of the power system. The efficiency of the proposed controller on the stability of the entire tested system has been proved and also guarantees the stability against uncertainty and turmoil. Applying this method can also reduce the difficulties of oscillations between adjacent areas to generator without strengthening transmission lines or costly constraints on system performance. The simulation results on a system of 68 buses, 16 generators and 5 areas show that the mentioned controller with embedded HVDC and SVC has significant performance despite changes in parameters.

Abstract

This paper presents a design and development of 8/6 switched reluctance motor for small electric vehicle using analytical method. The absent of permanent magnet, inherent fault tolerance capabilities, simple and robust construction make this motor become more attractive for small electric vehicle application such as electric scooter and go-kart. The switched reluctance motor is modelled using analytical formula in designing process. Later, the designed model is analyzed using ANSYS RMxprt software. In order to achieve 5kW power rating and to match with the design requirement, the switched reluctance motor model has been analyzed using RMxprt tools for the preliminary parameters design process. This tools is able to predict the output performance of motor in term of speed, flux linkage characteristic, output torque and efficiency.

Abstract

Generally, Electronic Load Control (ELC) used in micro hydro power plant (MHPP) to controls the voltage between consumer load and a dummy load, still detects one parameter voltage or frequency generator only. Whereas in reality, any changes in the load on consumers, generator voltage and frequency also changed. When the consumer load down the electric current will be supplied to the dummy load, amounting to decrease in consumer load. When there is a transfer load, there will be distortion voltage and frequency, thus a special methods to reduce distortions by speeding up the process of transferring the electric load is needed. The proposed of this study is using fuzzy logic algorithm.To realize such a system, a comparison tool model of load control digital electronic fuzzy logic controller (FLC) and Proportional Integrator (PI) is required. This modeling using matlab program to simulate, the simulation result shows that the ELC based  on fuzzy logic controller is better than conventional PI control, it seen from fast response to steady state condition.

Abstract

This paper proposes new topology of five-phase inverter with reduced number of switches fed indirect rotor field oriented five phase induction motor. It employs only eight IGBT switches preformed five phase inverter. The reduction of the number of power switches from ten to eight improves the cost-effectiveness, volume-compactness and reliability of five-phase induction motor drive system. Simulation model of the proposed drive system is developed using the Matlab/Simulink package and analyzed to verify the effectiveness at different operating conditions of this approach. The comparison between the performance of the five phase motor under classical ten switch inverter and new topology at the same operation conditions has been illustrated. The proposed system gives similar operations as classical ten switch inverter for a certain range of motor speed and load torque. The DC voltage of proposed inverter must be compensated to higher value to achieve same performance of classical ten switch inverter in all range of motor speed and load torque.

Abstract

Non-linear loads connected to distribution system induce harmonics in to source components and the presence of harmonics in source components affects the performance of other sensitive loads connected at the same point. Induction motor load for drive system should be operated with variable frequency and variable voltage for its speed control. To vary the voltage and frequency, induction motor is fed from an inverter. This total drive set-up constitutes non-linear load type and will be the source of harmonics. This paper depicts the suppression of harmonics with STATCOM in distribution system when induction motor load is fed from SEIG (singly excited inductin generator). STATCOM is controlled with simple synchronous reference frame theory and the results are shown for source current, load current. THD in source current and load current was also shown for the said system. System for single-phase and three-phase induction motor drive was developed and results are shown using MATLAB/SIMULINK software.

Abstract

This paper explains the experimental investigation to improve the output power of solar cell using cooling and light reflection from mirrors. The results show that by adding mirror, the current and output power of solar cell increase but the open circuit voltage and maximum power voltage decrease due to heat. By adding cooling, the open circuit voltage and the maximum power voltage are improved, so the output power also increases.
