Abstract

This research discusses the application of Semiotic theory proposed by RollandBarthes which describes that literary work has some symbolic codes viewed from Semioticstudies. In this analysis the writer discusses a short story “A Rose for Emily by WilliamFaulkner published in 1930. Here, the writer wants to prove the existence of some symboliccodessemiotically in the short story.This research is qualitative research by using descriptive method. Data is gained bylibrary research method and other sources taken from the web. In this research, the data isanalysed based on its relationship with the purpose of the research both instrinsic and extrinsicelement in literary work, then applying five codes in Semiotic theory proposed by Barthes.After applying the symbolic codes into the short story, the writer found there are threesymbolic codes hidden in “A Rose for Emily”, proairetic, hermeneutic, and cultural code. Theproairetic code gives the reader explanation about what happen to the main character duringher life and the cause of her madness. The hermeneutic code gives the reader the explanationabout the madness of the main character. Finally the cultural code in “A Rose for Emily” isregarding from family status too high will cause the bad effect to the member of the family.The writer also finds the similarity within the cultural code about the culture of the white toindifference the African American people.

Abstract

Research on the Feasibility Analysis Quality brick Production of Small Industries inPayakumbuh and Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota has been conducted to determine thefeasibility of quality adobe result of small industries in Payakumbuh and Kabupaten LimaPuluh Kota and to know how to optimize the mix of brick that worthy quality standardsappropriate with the requirements PUBI-1982. Tests done after the adobe brick was only28 days. Equipment for the testing of compressive strength of concrete blocks arecompression machine. Test Results Compressive Strength average compressive strengthvalues obtained brick on brick in Civil Engineering Laboratory STT Payakumbuh hasincreased and decreased. The compressive strength was lowest for the BA sample (amixture of 1: 6) with an average compressive strength of 0.7 MPa while the compressivestrength is highest in BC samples (a mixture of 1: 5) with an average compressive strengthof 3.1 MPa. Of 5 small brick industry in Payakumbuh and Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota, 3of which can not be said to be feasible because it does not meet the standards PUBI-1982.Small industries which include this category are from Tanjung Pati (BA), Tiakar (BD) andthe Village of Sand.Keywords: Batako, Quality of Batako, Compressive strength Tested

Abstract

The high potential of natural disasters in West Sumatra, especially of Padang is basically areflection of the geographical conditions which is very unique because it is located at themeeting of three tectonic plates of the world. Pauh district is one of 7 districts prone to flooddisasters, especially Flash Floods (Banjir Bandang). Flash Flood is a massive flood thatcomes suddenly with overflowing, flooding, and pouring down large objects (such as woodand so on). The number of problems that occur after Flash Floods associated with healthproblems into things that will follow and must be faced by the community. It should beenforced good disaster management one of them public preparedness in facing healthproblems after Flash Floods need to be known. The high level of community knowledge aboutFlash Floods disasters and their preparedness in the face of disasters and accompanyingissues such as health problems is very high at 70% although the education background of themajority of the population is only the primary school level, due to the experience of FlashFloods disaster. The level of knowledge is what makes good attitude and action of communityparticipation in minimizing health risk after banjir bandang happened. On the other hand,community preparedness measures are considered not good because of the low averageincome.Key words: natural disasters, management disasters, flash floods, preparedness

Abstract

Stroke is a clinical syndrome due to disruption of blood flow to the brain, suddenly ariseand more experienced by patients aged ≥ 55 years.This research purposes to determine thefactors that are associated with the risk of stroke incidence in the Inpatient Room A atBukittinggi National Stroke Hospital 2017.Type of research used descriptive correlation with Cross sectional studyapproach.Sampling using purposive sampling technique to get a sample of 72 people.Datacollection in this study using questionnaire. Data were analyzed statistically by using chi-squaretest.The results showed that 69.4% were at risk for stroke, 41.7% respondents with age factor,63.9%, with male gender factor, 80.6% with hypertension factor, 86.1%, with diabetes factormellitus, 84.7% with less physical activity factor. (P = 0.001), hypertension (p = 0.000), diabetesmellitus (p = 0.004), smoking (p = 0,000), lack of physical activity (p = 0.472) with risk strokeincidence no relationship.It can be concluded that the factors of age, gender, hypertension, diabetes mellitus,smoking are associated with the risk of stroke incidence except for lack of physical activity. Forthat it is expected to various parties, especially nurses at the National Stroke Hospital ofBukittinggi to perform early detection of risk factors for stroke.It can be concluded that thefactors of age, gender, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking are associated with the risk ofstroke incidence except for lack of physical activity.Keywords :Age factor, gender, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, lack ofphysical activity, risk of stroke.

Abstract

Abstract

The agricultural ecosystem has a diversity of habitats that vary greatly from simple tocomplex. Observing the diversity of insects in agricultural areas is important to supportincreased production. An insect inventory study of tidal rice crops has been conducted inIndragiri Hilir Regency. Objective of research was to obtain information about the types ofinsects in tidal rice plant ecosystems. This research was conducted using purposiverandom sampling. Collection of insects was done using pitfall trap, yellow pan trap, swingnets and malaise traps. Tidal rice plantation area of Indragiri regency has 8 types of insectorder obtained from 4 types of traps installed, ie insect order diptera, hymenoptera,hemiptera, orthoptera, coleoptera, lepidoptera, collembola and odonata. The highestinsect population at the time before the rice planting period was occupied by insects of theorder, followed by hymenoptera, hemiptera, orthoptera, coleoptera, lepidotera, andcollembola respectively. Indragiri's downstream rice cultivation has high biodiversitypotential and biological agents to be developed.Kata kunci : Ecosystem, insect, habitat, tidal rice, malaise trap

Abstract

Pusako Hotel Bukittinggi is a 4 star hotel (****) which is located on Soekarna Hatta StreetNo. 7, Manggis, Ganting, Mandiangin Koto Selayan Bukittinggi, West Sumatera. HotelPusako comprises of 191 guest rooms, very harmoniously designed in harmony with thebeauty of the surrounding landscape and designed with Minangkabau architecture. Types ofresearch methods used in this study is descriptive method with qualitative data describing theanalysis of satisfaction on employee performance restaurant hotel Pusako Bukittinggi.Primary data is data obtained directly from the source and Secondary data are data thatstrengthen the validity of research, obtained through literature, or data or information that ifnecessary for this research.This study used descriptive qualitative method, with the number of sample as many as 13people, were used in this study is by observation, questionnaire and documentation. This studywas conducted in January 2017 and is located in Pusako Hotel Bukittinggi. Data obtainedusing a number of instruments that constitute the questionaire and processed using variablefrequency analysis for the purposes of this study.Factors that affect employee job satisfaction are wages and salaries, working conditions,quality supervision, interpersonal relationships and corporate policies and administration.This study aimed to analyzed the analysis of satisfaction on employee performance restauranthotel pusako Bukittinggi.Keyword: satisfaction and performance

Abstract

Sungai Pua sub-district is in mountainous area, at risk for landslide and flood. Recentlythere was a flood so the locals felt anxious, shocked and even traumatized. Trauma tovictims of natural disasters can not be allowed to drag on. In order for disaster victims tocontinue their lives normally, trauma healing is required. The purpose of this research isto know how big the need of children in sub-district of pua river to program of traumahealing after flood disaster. Quantitative research type, the process of collecting data isdone through questionnaire. The sample in the study was taken in total random sampling,and the number was 72 people. The results showed that 30 children (41.7%) neededentertainment as their need to heal themselves from trauma due to flood disaster, then 22children (30.5%) need home visit, 12 children (16,7%) need sharing partners and 8children (11.11%) require health services. It is hoped that with this program, it can reducethe trauma of children in the aftermath of the disaster, and can continue the research byusing the results of this needs analysis to see how effective these programs are.Key Words :Natural disasters, trauma healing, children

Abstract

The transfer of the novel into a movie will lead to changes. That's because the process of makingthe novel and the film are very different. Different processes will produce somewhat different resultsjuga.Dalam movie without explaining to the audience what was happening, the audience itself hasbeen understood through movement and images shown, while in the novel the reader to imagineexempted in accordance with what they think. To bridge the misunderstanding of society (lovers ofliterature) to the film adaptation of the literary work (novel), this research needs to be done. This is sothat people can see the film as a film without overshadowed by his literary work (novel).This study aimed to: describe the novel ekranisasi Surga yang Tak Dirindukan Asma Nadia worksinto films by director Kuntz Agus Surga yang Tak Dirindukan.This study is a qualitative study usingdescriptive methods. Data of this study is novel Heaven episode story that Asma Nadia Tak missedwork and the film Heaven Not missed by director Kuntz Agus. Data was collected through three stages,namely; The first step is to read the novel Heaven is not missed work Asma Nadia, followed bywatching the movie Heaven Not missed by director Kuntz Agus. Phase Two is the inventory, to identifyelements of the novel and the film Heaven is not missed.The third phase is the classification of data into the data format. The data validation techniquesdetailed description of the technique. Analyzing technique is done with the theory ekranisasi. Based onthe results of the study, concluded the following. First, a reduction in part ceritan novel Heaven AsmaNadia Tak missed work in the film Heaven is not missed by director Kuntz Agus. Secondly, there wasan additional episode in the story in the film Heaven is not missed by director Kuntz Agus. Third, thereis a change of variety of events, characters and background story episode in the film Heaven is notmissed by director Kuntz Agus. Subtraction, addition and alteration variation on the novel and the filmHeaven There may be missed characters, plot and setting. Such changes may result in changes ofmeaning and story standpoint.

Abstract

The compensation is all the income in the form of money, goods directly or indirectly received byemployees as a reward for services rendered to the company. Ambun Suri Hotel as a budget hotel witha high level of competition between the Hotel-Hotel and other companies need to improve theiremployee productivity through motivational processes are realized with compensation eventuallyexpected to increase the productivity of its employees. To provide the motivation to work productivityof employees can proceed smoothly Ambun Suri Hotel provide direct compensation (base salary, mealallowance, bonus and transport) and indirect (social security benefits). This study aimed to analyzedthe compensation to the increased productivity of employees in Ambun Suri Hotel Bukittinggi.This study used descriptive qualitative method, with the number of sample as many as 19 people, were used inthis study is by observation, questionnaire and documentation. This study was conducted in August 2016 and islocated in Ambun Suri Hotel Bukittinggi. Data obtained using a number of instruments that constitute thequestionnaire and processed using variable frequency analysis for the purposes of this study.Keyword: compensation and employee productivity
