<![CDATA[The objective of this study is to describe the ethical values of public service among public service personnel at Department of Education in Padangpanjang City. This study uses a quantitative approach with the type of ex post-facto. Population in this consisted of 10,864 individuals of heads of household in two districts and 16 villages of Padangpanjang. Sample was taken in two stages, cluster sampling and proportional stratified random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using a statistical percentage, mean, and other central tendency according to research interests. Results of this study indicated that the ethical values of public service among public service personnel at the Department of Education in Padangpanjang City has not been well implemented.Key words: ethical values, attitudes, public service, educational service]]>

<![CDATA[Food is a basic biological need for humans to stay alive, and now food has beenlinked to culture. Not all types of food available in the environment are considered asfood. Patterns of eating habits ingrained from childhood will take effect later in olderage. This article explains the eating habits of the elderly people of Minangkabau whosuffer from hypertension. The result shows that the culture greatly affects the patterns ofeating habits of the elderly. The eating habit happens to be one of the factors causinghypertension. <![CDATA[The article aims to reveal the Padang Alim Ulama perspective toward Pasambahan Dance, in the context of Adaik Basandi Syara’, Syara’ Basandi Kitabullah (ABS-SBK) values. This research used qualitative approach based on teoritical perspective as conceptually embedded for reseach analysis. Interview and observation of some ulamas in Islamic organizations and higher institutions, as well as documentary techniques are used for data collecting. Data will be triangulated through member check and peer debriefing. The result shows that basically Pasambahan dance has been suited to the perspectives of the ulamas, based on the Minangkabau philosophy the ABS-SBK, both in the dancers’ moves and uniforms, although several things still needed to be fixed.Key words: Pasambahan dance, Minangkabau philosophy ABS-BSK, Padang ulamas]]>

<![CDATA[This article describes the pattern of cultivation, production and distribution of farm fields of the Mentawai society which are based on the results of a research conducted using the perspective of economic anthropology. The study was conducted in eight hamlets. Four separate hamlets in the north and south of Siberut Island, four other separate hamlets in Sipora Island and North Pagai Island. The farming habit of planting various types of plants in the field (mone) to meet the needs of food and cash crops to be sold (commodities for exports) is not focused and can only adapt to the market price and the small quantity of harvest, individually cost them, in contrast to traders who have strategies to anticipate losses due to the fluctuation of price.Key words: traditional cultivation, market]]>

<![CDATA[It is really ironic that an institution of law enforcer like constitutional court whose objectives are to to defend the rights, create substantive justice and prosperity for the society, is apparently extending its authority—including constitutional complain toward the static Supreme Court’s decision—which causes concern among the society. People are worried about the lack of control of the extension on authority, indicating it will become the highest institution with no check and balances as well as the fear of increasing debates and problems among the society. This article suggests that constitutional court can explain the consideration of extending the authority to the public, in order to counter the public’s anxiousness that the institution is becoming the highest authority without check and balances.Key words: extension of authority, constitutional court, constitutional complain, society rights, Supreme Court]]>

<![CDATA[As the world's oldest social problems prostitution has always existed anddeveloped along along with the structural changes in the society. In the city of Padangprostitution is conducted underground with various forms and patterns within socialnetworks. This study reveals patterns formed and social networks used by prostitutes oractors in the business. This qualitative study uses purposive sampling to selectinformants. Data is collected by limited participation observation, interviews, anddocumentary study. <![CDATA[This study aimed to describe the views of the Mubalig of the phenomenon of violence against women in the household (KDRT). Violence against women in the household is often justified because society is understood as being legitimized in the understanding of religion as they learn from the preachers. Bias in understanding, interpreting, and conveying religious teachings to the people—especially with regards to the issue of violence against women in the household—causes the growing injustices against women.
