Al Munir Journal of Islamic Communication and Broadcasting is open access and peer review of journals published by the Communication and Islamic Broadcasting Study Program of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences, Imam Bonjol Padang State Islamic University (UIN). This journal covers actual issues in Islamic communication studies, including the development of contemporary da'wah by utilizing media, Islamic information systems, rhetoric, literature, and government policies regarding broadcasting and information regulation. The purpose of this journal is to promote sharing of knowledge and understanding of communication issues. Then receive contributions from experts, researchers, practitioners and policy makers throughout the world. This journal is published periodically twice a year, precisely in January - June and July - December.

Abstract

Denny Setiawan or Denny Caknan is classified as successful in inspiring millennial generation to be culturally literate through their musical works with regional nuances. Denny became known to the public when his song Kartonyono Medhot Janji went viral in 2019. At the end of 2020 Denny released a new song entitled Ndas Gerih. This song is unique because the song lyrics are written in 3 languages, namely Javanese, Indonesian and English, with more than 30 million views and 27 thousand comments. Not only that, the visualization in the video clip of the song is rich of local cultural and traditional values. This study specifically aims to analyze the cultural values in the Ndas Gerih song through the semiotic perspective of Ferdinand De Saussure. This research is a qualitative descriptive research with the objects of this research, namely lyrics, music (audio) and pictures. The results showed that cultural values were represented in each of the lyrics, music and video clips of the Ndas Gerih song. Those values are local traditional values, religious value, aesthetic value and economic value.

Abstract

Throughout the history of human civilization,communication has always been an urgent matter in carrying out the existence and fulfillment of human needs in the form of physical or non-physical. Communication is a tool to convey something, so da'wah also uses communication as a tool to convey message of Islamic da'wah to mad'u (the object of da'wah). Da'wah was first started in Arabia by Muhammad SAW. Since Islamis rahmatallil'alamiin (a blessing for whole the world),of course in the spread of da'wah to the earth (apart from Arabic) will meet different cultures from mad'u. The purpose of this study was to analyze the history of the failure and success of  Christian missionaries in Batak land from communication perspective. The research method was based on library research by conducting a critical analysis of the source and then reflecting on Islamic da'wah in the context of communication rather than theology. The result of this study revealed that the failure and success of three Christian missionaries in Batak land was due to communication problems. Two people were killed because they did not master the culture and communication of destination area,and one person succeeded because he had mastered cross-cultural communication. Then, this is reflected in Islamic da'wah that both of missionaries and da'wah convey messages to others in the context of communication. Therefore, indigenous da'wah communication is needed in conveying da'wah to others.

Abstract

Encouragement from parents to get their children to get married often creates conflicts. This study analyzes interpersonal communication which is used as an effort to resolve conflicts. Qualitative methods are used to answer research questions with a phenomenological approach. The results obtained by parents often encourage their children who are old enough to get married. Conflicts between parents and children often occur when the child doesn’t feel like getting married, while the parents for several reasons want their child to get married soon. The interpersonal communication built by parents and children can be a way to resolve conflicts that occur. Openness and listening are the keys to the communication process between parents and children. This study concludes that the conflict between parents and children regarding the urge to marry must be resolved using interpersonal communication.

Abstract

The development of social media today has a big impact, one of which has an impact in the field of promotion. Industry players including influencers and content creators use Instagram social media as a means of promotion, one of which is Instagram @sumbar_rancak social media as a means of promoting tourism in Sumatera Barat. Based on the above background, the focus of the problem in this study is how to use social media instagram @sumbar_rancak as a means of tourism promotion in Sumatera Barat. The purpose of this study was to determine the use of social media Instagram @sumbar_rancak as a means of promoting tourism in Sumatera Barat. This study uses the concept of new media-based tourism promotion, namely social media Instagram. This research will use a qualitative approach using the case study method. From the research results, the use of Instagram @sumbar_rancak social media as a means of tourism promotion in Sumatera Barat is to use several Instagram features such as; photo title or caption, hashtags, comments, mentions. And based on the results of observations and interviews with Instagram informants, @sumbar_rancak is very effective in promoting tourism in West Sumatra. This is evidenced by the statements of visitors through the captions they upload on privately owned social media.

Abstract

This research describes information on various issues of Hajj Manasik Guidance activities throughout the year at the Integrated Hajj and Umrah Service Center (PLHUT) Padang City. This activity is an innovation from the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia since 2019 which aims to meet the achievement of the objectives of organizing the Hajj, providing guidance, service and protection for pilgrims in accordance with sharia, as well as realizing independence and resilience in the implementation of the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages. The Facts show that this new innovation creates some problems for PLHUT that require solutions. The research aims to find out the problems and solutions provided in dealing with the problem of guidance. This research is a field research with a descriptive qualitative approach. The data source is taken from the Head of the Hajj and Umrah Organizing Section of the Ministry of Religion of the city of Padang, implementing officers, supervisors and prospective pilgrims as well, by using purposive technique. The instruments that used are observation and interview. The results are as following : 1) The problems faced by PLHUT were budget issues, guidance materials, Jamaat do not have the maximum time to follow the guidance, the available time allocation and limited facilities. Presentation of guidance material and its schedule are less systematic and module are ineffective. 2) PLHUT provides a solution by increasing the guidance time in “Ramadan” every day, the committee will provide a schedule and guidance module.

Abstract

The religious social activity at the Great Nurul Iman mosque in Padang City is not only seen as a place of prayer, but also empowers the people. Mosque is a traditional place to mobilize da'wah, and also a community development center, an information center and developing knowledge education and training and social activities. The objectives of this study are to reveal Tahfizd's activities, the hadith activities of Ar-ba'in and the gold savings activity for orphan education at the Agung Nurul Iman mosque in Padang. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative, which describes how to describe the facts and symptoms that exist in the field. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. The research results obtained in the study are: (1) Tahfzd coaching activities at the Agung Nurul Iman mosque in Padang City have been going well, with the existence of tahfizd activities and can add and improve the memorization of students. (2). The ar-ba'in hadith program at the Nurul Iman mosque in Padang City can add insight and knowledge of the congregation about the hadiths taught by the Prophet Muhammad such as the procedures for living, prayer, fasting, zakat, and the history of Islam (3). The gold saving activity at the Agung Nurul Iman mosque in Padang City can help with the needs and costs of education for orphans who are registered in the gold savings activity.

Abstract

The communication strategy is an important thing that must be considered by various parties. Along with the development of technology and communication in the 4.0 era, the communication strategies used have begun to be shifted by utilizing the use of social media as has been done by the Padang heritage community, which uses Instagram to disseminate the information so that it is known by a wider audience. This research used a qualitative descriptive method and was conducted in the city of Padang, with 6 informants who were members of the Padang Heritage Community. The conclusion of this study shows that in terms of designing a communication strategy carried out by the Padang heritage community on social media, Instagram also pays attention to communication components such as communicators, the channels used, audiences or targets, and the resulting feedback. In connection with this communication component, the Padang Heritage community also pays attention to the accuracy of the sources, contents, and forms of messages displayed on the Instagram @padangheritage social media account.

Abstract

This This paper attempts to describe the effectiveness of intercultural communication in building plurality of thoughts and attitudes of tolerance among religious communities, and provides an overview of the concept of intercultual communication and the concept of plurality of tolerance of religious communities. This study is a literature study through the work of other researchers obtained through journals, books, and the internet. The results of the study show that the concept of intercultural communication has a relationship in building perceptions, attitudes and actions of society in carrying out life activities in a socio-religious context. communication becomes a medium in forging bonds between religious communities. Integration between tolerance and plurality is constructed in a system of religious harmony and harmony based on human attitudes in communication, including several attitudes shown when individuals attend and internalize external events including denial, defense, minimization, acceptance, adaptation and integration. This process will certainly be faced by each individual with various attitude criteria that are shown including being exclusive, inclusive and pluralist. Thus tolerance comes with effective and efficient communication and provides a positive view of each ethnic, racial, cultural and religious entity.

Abstract

The use of social media such as Instagram is not only for communication and sharing moments such as photos and videos but Instagram can also be used as a medium in building one's self-image in any aspect, in achieving positive and negative images, on other Instagram users. One of them is Najwa Shihab, who in fact is a public figure who often uses Instagram to share valuable moments when creating his own image. The purpose of this research is to find out the construction of Najwa Shihab's self-image on Instagram social media. As for the paradigm itself, it uses a constructivist paradigm with descriptive research type and a qualitative approach method with Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic theory. In this study, the object of his research is in the form of photos and descriptions on the @najwashihab Instagram account. The results of this study are to make components of how to form a self-image, where there are verbal and nonverbal messages seen from the sentences or captions he wrote with a characteristic and the style of photography and fashion worn by Najawa Shihab. Therefore, this study concludes that Najwa Shihab has several characteristics in building his self-image which is simple, educational, smart, humble, modern, fashionable and inspiring.
