Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the histopathologic changes of bronchopneumonia type in pigs of slaughtered pig from Oeba slaughterhouse associated with P. multocida infection. Samples of pulmo were found from pigs showing respiratoric symptoms, characterized as dyspnoea and presence of nasal exudates that are serous to mucopurulent, obtained from slaughtered pigs in RPH Oeba Kota Kupang. Samples showed pathognomonic lesions of gray hepatized than processed for histopathological studies. The result showed that varied macroscopic changes noted in pulmo samples from suspected infected pigs showed various types of lesions. Lessions observed then classified into two main lessions were acute and chronic. Acute lesions were characterized by edema and hyperemia which then confirmed with congestion and multifocal haemorrhages. Serous to seromucous exudates were observed intrabronchial and bronchioles. In chronic cases, the lesions showed cranioventral consolidation and gray hepatized with demarcated area beetwen consolidated and normal pulmonary area. Histologically, the types of bronchopneumonia categorized into bronchopneumonia suppurativa characterized by coagulative necrosis surrounded by cell infiltration and accumulation of fibrin intraalveolar. The fibrous connective tissue were also observed in the interstitaial space of alveolar around the necrotic area. Other samples showed non-suppurativa fibrinous bronchopneumonia with alveolar exudates dominated by mononuclear cells and accumulation of fibrin intra alveolar. Chronic bronchiolitis also seen with a mixture of mononuclear cells, neutrophils and macrophages that infiltrated into the lumen of the alveoli. A high number of goblet cells were observed in the bronchiolus epithelium, with the thickening of the fibrous tissue around the bronchioles. It can be concluded that there are two major types of lesions which are acute and chronic, with three types of bronchopnemonia namely bronchopneumonia suppurativa, non supuratival bronchopneumonia and chronic bronchiolitis.

Abstract

The presence of parasites in the backyard chicken body can cause damage to certain organs. Endoparasites can inhibit growth and lead to decreased production of chicken. The aims of this study is to identify the type of endoparasitic worms that infect backyard chickens as well as calculate the presence of endoparasit levels in backyard chicken feces. Samples of backyard chicken were taken randomly as many as 35 animals from farms in Kelapa Lima sub-district, Kupang City and Kupang Tengah sub-district Kupang District. The samples were examined by native and sediment method. The results showed that the endoparasites found in the method chickens were Ascarida galli, Raillietina sp. and Oxyuris sp. eggs, With a presence frequency of 88,58%, 5,71 %, and 5,71% respectively.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of spontaneous fermented nira with different treatment time to gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The research was conducted in November 2017 at the Animal Health Laboratory, Kupang State Agricultural of Polytechnic and Veterinary Public Health Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Nusa Cendana University, Kupang, NTT. Samples of bacteria used in this study were Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The fermented of nira lontar from 4 fermentation time (1 day (N1), 2 days (N2), 3 days (N3), and 4 days (N4)) were then collected to test the antimicrobial activity in inhibiting the growth of the microorganism. Fermentation was carried out for 4 days because previous research showed that the optimum growth of lactic acid bacteria in fermented palm was on the 4th day. This study used the Kirby-Bauer disc method, in which antibacterial activity was described by the diameter of the inhibition zone. The results showed that the mean diameter of the inhibitory zone of S. aureus with N1 material was 8.15 mm, while N2, N3, and N4 had the same diameter of 6.4 mm. There was a significant difference between the diameter of the N1 zone and the rest of the samples, as well as all treatments with Ciprofloxacin positive control antibiotics. Different trends were indicated by E. coli, where there were no significant differences between N1, N2, and N3 diameters with values of 9.2 mm, 8.95 mm, and 8.1 mm, respectively, but they were significantly different from the diameter N4 of 6.4mm, and all treatments were significantly different with Ciprofloxacin positive control antibiotics. It can be concluded that spontaneous fermented nira lontar at four different fermentation time intervals have antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, with statistically significantly different inhibitory activity among different fermentation days. Moreover, fermented nira lontar has higher inhibitory activity on gram-negative bacteria, E. coli compared to gram-positive bacteria, S. aureus.

Abstract

The procedure for handling sacrificed animals has been regulated in Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture - Republic of Indonesia No. 114/Permentan/PD.410/9/2014. This research aims to describe the procedure of slaughter of qurban animals in Kupang City in relation to the provision of safe, health, intact, and halal meat (ASUH). This study is a descriptive study conducted through observation and interviews with qurban committee 1438H (2017M) at two mosques in Kupang City. Assessment is done on how to produce ASUH meat. There are fifteen aspects that are qualitatively assessed, 1 point if fulfilled and 0 if not fulfilled. Total of fulfillment points was then made in a percentage. The hygiene and sanitation practice of qurban slaughter at Al Mujahidin Mosque-Penfui and Darul Hijrah Mosque-Kolhua of Kupang City is quite good with a value of 10/15 (66.67%). Some things that need to be improved are the limitation of personnel with trained people. Meat processing facilities that need to be added is table and basket for meat storage.
