Abstract

This study aims to analyze the scientific approach and method of learning and show the results in genre-based Indonesian language learning. This study used a qualitative approach. The data were collected from three sources: literature review, student learning outcomes, and questionnaire results. Data on students’ learning outcomes and views were explicitly taken from two groups. The first group consisted of 113 respondents who were asked to construct literary texts. The second group consisted of 105 respondents who were asked to construct exposition texts. The library research data was analyzed using theoretical and conceptual analysis, while the students’ learning outcome data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The data from the questionnaire were analyzed by quantitative analysis. Based on the analysis of the three forms of data, it was discovered that; (a) the terms scientific approach and method were relevant to genre-based (Indonesian) language learning, (b) scientific as a learning method (scientific method) could be used by teachers as a method in delivering learning material as well as by students to construct texts as a form of learning outcomes, (c) scientific method guides students to construct text systematically, in controlled, empirically, and analytically through scientific stages, and (d) there was a gap between the views of the students who think that the scientific method could guide students in constructing text and enhancing the quality of text production. With a score of 41.43, 91.15% of the students in the first group believed that the scientific approach might help students produce texts with high-quality output outcomes. 90% of the 105 respondents in the second group said that the scientific approach might help students create explanation texts even though the degree of text creation quality is low (score: 49.5). The students’ less expressive language use was to blame for this.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal educational value contained in the ethnoparenting of Penrek Tojang of the Bugis Tribe in Wattang Sidenreng, Sidenren Rappang Regency. This study used a qualitative approach with a type of transcendental phenomenology. The subjects in this study were a pair of parents (father and mother) who had carried out the Penrek Tojang ceremony at the birth of their child. Data collection techniques were carried out using semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation, until it reached the stage of exploring intention and eidetic reduction (values/ideas) which underlies pure subjectivity. The core processes of this research were epoche, reduction, imaginative variation, and synthesis of meanings and essence. The analysis technique used epoche/bracketing. The results of the study showed that the implementation of ethnic-based parenting in ethnoparenting was still carried out through the Penrek Tojang event or the swing ride. The aim of the Penrek Tojang tradition is to get closer to Allah SWT and as a form of gratitude for having been given a child and asking for the child's safety. The implementation of Penrek Tojang began with the preparatory stage, namely preparing tools and materials as well as food to be served at the event. Then the event began with welcoming the invited guests, the process of throwing away, reading barazanji/makkulawi, cutting hair, kissing the baby, riding on a swing (menrek tojang), then closing with prayer and eating together. The educational values contained in ethnoparenting at the Penrek Tojang event include aqidah values, worship values, and moral values, namely the values of gratitude, politeness, affection, hospitality and helping. This is an effort to instill character education in children which makes them dignified in their lives and implies instilling life skills, including spiritual, emotional, and social skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Emotional Quotient level, reading achievement level, and emotional quotient's effect on reading achievement in grade II students. This method of research was ex-post facto with a quantitative approach. The instrument used to measure students' emotional quotient levels was a questionnaire; meanwhile, the instrument used to measure students' reading achievement levels was documentation. Furthermore, the data analysis technique was descriptive analysis, then proceeded with the prerequisite analysis test, starting from the normality and linearity tests. Finally, the research hypothesis was tested using a simple linear regression test and the F test. The result was that most students have a relatively low EQ, so their reading achievement was relatively low too. The results of a straightforward regression analysis yield the equation Y = 45.788 + 0.406X, which showed that an increase in the reading performance score of 0.406 would occur for every additional unit of emotional quotient score. Thus, a significant positive relationship existed between kids' EQ and reading achievement. Self-awareness, mood management, self-motivation, empathy, and relationship management were essential considerations when increasing students' emotional quotient (EQ). While age, teaching strategies, the environment in which students learn, and parental and educational support for encouraging and assisting students in learning to read were among the elements that influence students' reading achievement.
