The purpose of research is to determine the perception of biology teachers confront the 2013 curriculum at the goverment secondary school in Pekanbaru city. The research conducted in may until june 2013. Determination of the sample is stratified random sampling technique, where the samples used are 25 biology teachers from 10 junior high school and 17 biology teachers from senior high school in pekanbaru. Collecting data using a closed questionnare, and direct interviews. Parameter measured is perception of biology teacher with the indicators used in research are graduates competency standards, content standards, process standards, and standards of evaluation. The result of research at junior high school for graduates competency standards indicator is 2,77, 2,60 for content standards indicator, 3,19 for process standars indicator, and 3,31 for standards of evaluation with average for all indicators are 2,97 belong to category of good. The average result at senior high school for graduates competency standards indicator is 2,87, 3,16 for content standards indicator, 3,10 for process standards indicator, and 3,20 for standards of evaluation with average for all indicators are 3,08 belong to category of good. Based on the result of research concluded that the perception of biology teachers confront the 2013 curriculum at the goverment secondary school in Pekanbaru city is belong to good category.Keywords : 2013 Curriculum, Biology Teachers, Perception, Pekanbaru, SMP, SMA

This study was conducted to determine the increase in soft skills FKIP Riau University Biology students through PBL learning model. Research subjects are biology students 4th semester (four) year 2012/2013, amounting to 19 people. This type of research is action research. The research instrument is a learning device (Syllabus, SAP, LKM, Textbook), while collecting data by observation sheet. Parameters of soft skills is a creative research, analysis, communication, problem solving, management, independent and work together. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the average soft skills of students in the first cycle 71.68% (excellent) increased to 80.64% (excellent) on the second cycle. Thus the application of PBL models can improve the soft skills of students at the University of Riau FKIP Biology course Genetics and Evolution.Keywords: Genetics and Evolution, soft skills Ability, Problem Based Learning (PBL)

This study aims to determine species diversity of butterfly (Subordo Rhopalocera) in the tourisms area Hapanasan and designing learning sources are the relevant to biodiversity concept based on these results. Observation were conducted from April to June 2013. Determination of the research station by purposive random sampling, that determined based on differences characteristics of habitat. Station I is a secondary forest area, station II is a tourisms park area, station III is a rubber plantations area and station IV is an oil palm plantations. Biological parameters measured are species composition of butterfly (Subordo Rhopalocera) and species diversity index of butterfly (Subordo Rhopalocera). The measured physical parameters include are temperature, humidity and wind speed. Based on the results of the study, founded 194 individual of butterflies. They are consist of 60 species belong to 5 families include Hesperiidae (2 species), Papilionidae (10 species), Pieridae (9 species), Nymphalidae (36 species) and Lycaenidae (3 species). The highest number of species were founded at station II, station IV, station III and the lowest founded at station I. The highest species diversity index were founded at station II (H '=3.23), and the lowest at station I (H '=2.10). The collection and photo of speciments can be used as a source of biology learning in senior high school class X on the biodiversity concept. A desciptive Studies on thesis of biology education student has been explored at Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Riau. Data are based on the student Thesis published at the last twenty-five years (1988-2012). As much as 525 Thesis abstract has been analyzed by using total sampling technique. The subject area, research methodes, biology concept and biology teaching concept were indentified. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results shows that most of the thesis focus on Senior High School as a subject of their research. Descriptive and survey methodes are the most chosen by the students in their thesis. At least 57 biology concepts has been Studied as independent variables, and the concept of pollution is the most frequent. There are 40 biology concepts has been Studied as dependent variables, and the most frequent on plant vegetative growth. We found at least 152 biology inctructional concepts has been Studied as independent variables. Biological subject content is the most ferequent. There are 20 biology instructional concepts has been Studied as dependent variables, and the most frequent is learning achievement concept.Keywords: biological education research, biology undergraduate student, Biological concept, biology instructional concept, research in science education, research methology

Has conducted research to determine the professional skills of the 21st century science in the district Tualang, Siak Sri Indrapura district in August-September 2013. Determined in consideration of the study sample, the science teacher who taught in class VII Academic Year 2012-2013 as many as 35 teachers from 13 junior high. The research instrument was a questionnaire using a scale covered by the linker. The data analyzed in the frequency, tabulated and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that Min digital age literacy scores of 4.31 (very good). The highest value of 4.63 (very good) that science gathers knowledge from a variety of sources and the lowest value of 3.83 (good) to collect the necessary information science. Literacy effective communication 4.30 (very good), the highest score of 4.66 cooperating (very good) and the lowest value of each act as a leader and member with the value of 3.89 (good) and 3.80 (both) that emotion if not respected. Constraints of women educators in implementing science skills namely: 1) searching for information science skills, 2) skills to act as leaders and members, and 3) the skills to control emotions if not respected.Keyword: science skills, digital age literacy, effective communication, female science teacher educators.

Action research has been conducted with the implementation of inquiry - based learning strategies in the implementation of applied biology laboratory activity and to improve student learning outcomes . The experiment was conducted in the second semester of academic year 2012/2013 in the Biology Faculty of Teacher education Program UR . Subjects were students take courses in Applied Biology with a number of 52 students ( 10 men and 42 women ) . Parameters measured were activities in practicum and student learning outcomes . The study consisted of 2 cycles with 6 meetings . The data were analyzed descriptively . The results show there is an increase in activity and student learning outcomes from the first cycle to the second cycle . Student activity in cycle 1 : submit ideas , doing experiments , working together , observations classified as category very well , whereas hypothesize , ask and make conclusions either classified category . While on cycle 2 activity categories well and asking other classified categories classified as very good . Learning outcomes in cycle 1 is very good very good category 17 students ( 32.69 % ) and second cycle increased to 31 students ( 59.61 % ) . Overall the implementation of inquiry -based learning can enhance the activity and student learning outcomes in the practicum course in the second semester of Applied Biology academic year 2012/2013 in Biology Education Riau University.Keywords : Botany , inquiry

Have implemented quality improvement research learning courses in Biotechnology Biology Education Guidance and Counseling Program at the University of Riau July to December 2013. Evaluation of student learning outcomes is done by comparing the student learning outcomes before and after implementation of the CBC. The samples were student results of 2005, 2006, 2007 ( before CBC ) and the class of 2008, 2009, 2010 ( after CBC ). Descriptive analysis of the data by comparing the cognitive and psychomotor aspects of learning outcomes and analyze the weaknesses in the implementation of the lecture and practicum students who have obtained. Results showed that without the use of practical learning outcomes for the class of 2005 earned an average value of 75.59, class of 2006, the average value of 73.71 and the class of 2007 with an average value of 76.72. Overall average value of 75.34 . While learning to use lab results to the class of 2008 with an average value of 72.32, for the class of 2009 with an average value of 76.66 and for the class of 2010 with an average value of 76.72. Overall average value of 74.94. Learning outcomes are assessed on the cognitive aspects of the implementation of learning theory after CBC ( 74.94 ) is lower than before using CBC ( 75.34 ), the psychomotor aspects of the implementation of the learning lab ( 76.33 ) is higher than the results of the study only assessed from the theory. Thus the addition of psychomotor aspects make students more easily understand and can apply the theory in practice, so as to improve learning outcomes.Keywords: Competency-Based Curriculum, Learning Outcomes, Theory and Practice of Biotechnology
