Abstract

Critical thinking is an intellectual process that actively and conceptually conceptualizes, implements, analyzes, synthesizes, and evaluates information gathered or generated from observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, to guide beliefs and actions. That's because with critical thinking, individuals can be trained to solve problems in different and diverse ways. Giving problems to be solved by the student can track the ability to think critically well, because to solve the problem, one must have the ability to think critically. The purpose of this research is to describe the students' critical thinking profile in solving a valid and reliable microbiological problem. The type of research used is descriptive research using qualitative approach. Subjects in this study were some students of Biology Education of Lambung Mangkurat University who have taken microbiology courses in 2014/2015 academic year, amounting to 6 students, students drawn from 3 high, medium, and low category based on the value of microbiology course. The results of this study indicate that the critical thinking level of Biology University students of Lambung Mangkurat is dominant in critical thinking with critical and critical category. Students who take the course of microbiology certainly have different levels of critical thinking on each person based on written assignments that have been given.

Abstract

The research aims to utilizing interaction earthworm with environment in the calcareous land. The research can be specified through a two-stage: the first year and second year. Results from our earlier studies aims: (1) to find out earthworm interaction with calcareous land, (2) identification of earthworm in calcareous land. Using three examples from different land: monoculture, polyculture, and agroforestry. The research data collected with 3 repetitions in every land. Measurement of micro climates include temperature, humidity, pH, and light intensity. Identification the type of earthworm consist of: the body shape, color, position and the form of klitelum, the prostomium, setae, and the position of genetal males and females. Identification using binocular microscopy at 10 to 40x magnification. Analysis correlation were tested to figure out the relationships between variables. If the correlation of relationship between variable is very real or real continued test by STEPWISE REGRESSION to find out the most influential environmental factors on earthworms living. The result of the research are: (1) Earthworm had very significant most correlation (significant = 0,01) with air humidity (r= 0,855), light intensity (r = - 0,825), and soil humidity (r = 0,60). Other environmental factors had a significantly small influence (pH, r =0,17; soil temperature, r = - 0,28; and temperature r = 0,03). Air humidity is the most influential environmental factors on earthworms living (2) identification of the types earthworm in different three land was found 2 species: Pontoscolex corethrurus and Metaphire javanica. In monoculture land is dominated by Metaphire javanica, whereas in Polikultur and Agroforestry land is dominated by Pontoscolex corethrurus. As a result, air humidity is the most influential environmental factors on the lives of earthworms and other environmental factors is relative small influence. On the calcareous land found two species of earthworm: Pontoscolex corethrurus and Metaphire javanica.

Abstract

This aims of Classroom Action Research (PTK) study to determine the increase of science learning outcomes through audio visual media with Cooperative Script learning model on the students of grade VIII SMP Negeri 1 Ceper. The subjects of the study were the students number 30 of class VIII A. This research was conducted through two cycles, namely cycle I and cycle II. Each cycle took four stages: planning, action execution, and evaluation or reflection. This research was conducted by involving researchers who act as teachers and assisted by science teachers as observers of student and teacher activities. The results showed that there was an increase of each cycle. In the pre test the average grade of 65.13 and who complete the study of 9 students or 30%. After learning through audio visual media with Cooperative Script learning model in the first cycle, the average score of 72.16, students finished learning was 18 or 60%. In the cycle II the average score of students is 81.2 and 26 studentsfinished learning was or 86.66%. The results of learning science through audio visual media with Cooperative Script learning model on the students of class VIII A showed a significant increase at SMP Negeri 1 Ceper.

Abstract

The research aims to know about the characteristic, advisability, and effectiveness of Subject Specific Pedagogy(SSP) equipment based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) to reinforce the environmental literacy of HighSchool students. Environmental literacy consists of knowledge, attitude and concern. The research used theResearch and Development method. Design of this research was using 3-D model from 4-D. This designconsists of define, design and develop, without disseminate concept. The research subject retrieval techniqueby using purposive sampling. The subjects of this research are students of SMAN 1 Surakarta has receivedenvironment’s topic in the classroom. Data collection was done through observation, documentation, questionform and interview. The data analysis techniques in qualitative and quantitative for the device include SSP,analysis question form of environmental literacy, analysis of the results from interview, the homogeneity test,normality test and Non-Paired Sample T-Test. The result of this research are: 1) the characteristic of SSPequipment based on PBL was developed by PBL steps (meeting the problem; problem analyzing; discoveryand reporting; solution, presentation, and reflection; overview, integration and evaluation) and an extradimension of the indicators based on the dimension of anti-anthropocentrism which complement the 5dimensions of the New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) in the indicators, 2) advisability of SSP was measured bytest of validity, limited test, and research subject test 3) The result of Non-Paired Sample T-Test havesignificance on the knowledge, attitude and concern are 0.000 < 0.05. H0 is rejected which showed a differencein effectiveness. The results of this research can reinforce the environmental literacy of High School students.

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is important to be possessed by every individual, especiallly in the era of globalization. The ability to think critically supports the individual to overcome the problems in life, among which are environmental problems. Individuals and environments can not be separated, the relationship between them is reciprocal. Solutions to environmental problems can be realized through critical thinking. Each individual's critical thinking ability varies, depending on the frequency of frequent exercises to develop that ability. Such exercises include frequently asking questions, posing assumptions, identifying information, making inferences, identifying impacts, and so on. It is therefore important to identify the critical thinking skills of individuals in a forum. Description of the ability to think critically about environmental problems is expected to be the basis for the design of development of learning plan set related to the subject of Environmental Knowledge. The description of students' critical thinking ability is obtained through questions prepared according to Polya problem solving syntax. The set of questions contains elements of reasoning that are judged based on the intellectual standards of reasoning by Paul and Elder.

Abstract

The process of teaching and learning cannot be separated from the efforts to increase the quality of human resources. A good learning process is determined by a good planning which is also pays attention to the environment of the students. After that, the process of learning, evaluation, and observation can be done well. In other words, if those sequences of planning and teaching are implemented well, the process of learning can be said as succesful and it acquires the standards. One part of planning is to prepare the learning process kit. This research is aimed to measure the indicator achievement of high order thinking skill and student’s cognitive study results through cooperative learning based on inquiry using the kit that has been developed. The result of the research using the developed kit through the learning process of XI IPA 1 student’s high order thinking skill indicates two categories of variation, that are good category by 24 students and 2 students are categorised as good enough in thingking skill. This means that on the whole, the high level of students’ thinking skill achieves good result. While students’ cognitive study result during the process of learning has achieved the standard score of minimum score criterion.

Abstract

The study aims to determine: (1) The results expert material validation of worksheet that has been developed;(2) The results of design experts validation of worksheet that has been developed; (3) Response of lecturer ofmicrobiology subject to worksheet that has been developed; (4) Perception of University of Medan BiologyEducation students to Worksheet that has been developed; (5) The eligibility of Worksheet for BiologyEducation students of State University of Medan. This development study uses a modified Borg & Gall modelas needed to produce a product of a contextual inquiry-based worksheet. The subjects test consisted of a teamof material experts, a team of design specialists, 3 (three) students individual testing of biological education, 9(nine) students of Biology education small group trial, 20 (twenty) students of Biology education limited fieldtrial. Data collected using questionnaires. The results of material expert validation to microfinance basedworksheet in context of water microbiology materials that have been developed with the feasibility of thecontents show the percentage of 93.75% included in the category of very good; Feasibility of presentationshows the percentage of 91.44% included in the category of very good; The feasibility of the contextual inquirycomponent indicates the percentage of 87.82% in the category of good good; The design validation results showthat 89.06% percentage is included in the category of very good; The result of the assessment by the lecturershows the percentage of 93.75% is included in the category of very good; Individual tests show the percentageof 86,66% included in the category of very good; Small group test showed 87.22% percentage included in thecategory of very good; The test of the restricted group shows the percentage of 91.12% included in the thecategory of very good. Test based on the data the product worksheet based on inquiry of contextual materialof water microbiology which have been developed feasible to be used for student as worksheet in Microbiologycourse.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to inventarize (1) an inventory species of Spermatophyte and (2) determine theindex of diversity and dominance of Spermatophyte species of hills Tlogodlingo area. This study is a descriptiveeksplorasif study conducted Tlogodlingo in Tawangmangu District of Karanganyar. The population in thisstudy is all types of plants in the hills Tlogodlingo. Sample in this research is type spermatophyta in hilly ofTlogodlingo. Determination of place as the location of sampling is done by purposive sampling. Sampling datais taken on each observation using method of quadratic sampling. The results showed that there are 12 speciesof plants Spermatophyta, namely Acacia decurrens, Ficus firtulosa, Melastoma malabathricum, Eupatoriumodoratum, Ageratum conyzoides, Imperata cyliandrica, Lantana camara, Polygala paniculata, Eupatoriumriparium, Borreria alata, Emilia sonchifolia, and Synedrella nodiflora. The value of diversity index ofSpermatophytes obtained in is 0.686 that means the diversity is low at hilly Tlogodlingo. The highestdominance index was Imperata cyliandrica and the lowest dominance index was Synedrella nodiflora..

Abstract

The research aims to improve the student’s ability to finding and relating the concepts by implementing instruction on experimentation sub-phase in the investigation phase of guided inquiry learning. The research was a classroom action research with two cycles. The research procedure includes 3 stages: plan, observation and action, and reflection. Research subjects were high school students consisting of 10 male students and 29 female students. Data were collected through observation, interview, documentation, and tests using concept maps. The validity of data used triangulation method. Data analysis used qualitative analysis techniques by data reduction, data display, and conclusions. The result of the research showed that the students’ concept map score on the pre-cycle has a range of 3,13%-21,69% and the mean of concept map score was 10,15% with 56,41% from all students above the mean, the first cycle has a range of 4,14% -69,98% and the mean of concept map score was 43,58% with 64,54% from all students above the mean, and the second cycle has a range of 33,09%-75,29% and the mean of concept map score was 48,55 with 41% from all students above the mean, thus instruction implementation of experimentation in the investigation phase of guided inquiry learning improves the ability to finding and relating concepts based on the increase of students’ concept map score from first cycle to second cycle.
