Abstract

Study on the dehydrator engineering for fish dehydration has beenconducted. The study was aimed to engineer, to built and to assess the existension, effectivity and efficiency of the fish dehydrator and the quality of dehydratedgiant catfish (Pangasius hypopthalmus) yielded by its application. The dehydratorhad three main chamber, namely: smoking furnace, smoking chamber, and dryingchamber. Its volume was measured 120 X 180 X 200 Cm3, and its smoking anddrying capacity were 100 kg.The result showed that both smoking and drying process could be aplliedsimultaneously. Therefore, the smoking fuel used could be saved. It spent 5kg/hour of coconut shell or 3.5 kg/hour of rubber wood (Hevea brasilliensis). Itwas not detected smoke contamination into the drying chamber. The rate oftemperature and RH in smoking chamber was 63o C and 43%, meanwhile, indrying chamber was 50o C and 49%. The consumer acceptance and the quality ofthe dehidrated fish yielded by smoking was not significantly different to it yieldedby drying. To get the maximum water content 40% in the fish, smoking processneeded 8 hours, meanwhile drying process needed 12 hours. The dehydrated fishcould be stored for 9 days at room temperature (30-32 oC).

Abstract

The study was conducted to evaluate the best effect of Human ChorionicGonadotropin Hormon (hCG) doses (800, 1000, and 1200 IU/Kg body weight offemale on breeding performance of selais fish (O. hypopthalmus) under alaboratory condition. The breeding performance was judged on the base of thetotal weight of stripped eggs, fertilization rate, hatching and survival of 6 days oldfry were considered. The results indicated that the total weight of stripped eggs were the highestwhen females were injected with 1200 IU/Kg body weight (45 eggs/g of female)compared to those injected with 1000 IU/Kg and 800 IU/Kg of body weight.Percentages of total fertilized eggs and hatching were 41,58% and 31,94%respectively, which were the highest among treatments. The highest net survivalof 6 days old fry was found to be 97,24% at 800 IU/ Kg weight of female.

Abstract

A major constraint in the fish farming system in Yogayakarta, Indonesia, isthe low physical fertility of the pond bottom soil, which is made up of the sandyInceptisols. This study aimed to alleviate this constraint by physically mixing itwith Ultisols and Vertisols that have a higher clay content. The Inceptisols wasmixed with Ultisols (I-U) and Vertisols (I-V) with the proportion of (70:30), (50:50), and(30:70). These mixtures were then given basal fertilizer in the form of quaildroppings manure at a dose of 2 tons/ha/month, urea and super phosphate. The fishculture was divided into two systems: ponds with 50 fish/m2 and ponds without fish. Thebest mixture was 30% Inceptisols with 70% Ultisols and 50% Inceptisols with 50%Vertisols with basal fertilizer. These mixtures gave significant improvement inchlorophyll-a concentration, plankton diversity, benthic algae abundance, and fishgrowth.

Abstract

Abstract

This reseach was conducted in March to April 2012, in Padang Beach ofWest Sumatra and in Integrated Oceanology Lab of Riau University. The aim ofthis research is to reveal the progress of abration happening in Padang Beach. Themethod used in this research is the survey one. The result of this reasearch showsthat abration happened at three research stations, the abration velocity at the firststation is 0,28 m/year, the second is 0,36 m/year and at the third one is 0,12m/year. The principle causes of abration process in Padang beach are the flow andthe great wave of the sea which signed by each characteristic and the flow that thebeach abrased easily, as the bigger of wave's energy and water's flow the faster ofabration will be.
