Abstract

The world is entering a new era, that's why we have to prepare a new social system as well. Many discussions lately talked about efforts to increase human resources. Likewise in the world of ministry, believers must be willing to improve their quality to respond those changes. A proper understanding of this ongoing era is necessarily needed to prepare well. Peter gave this important advice in his day, which is also very urgent for the church today. How should Christ's disciple live in this new era? This article was created to remind how disciples of Christ should live their lives, especially exploring the Bible in 1 Peter 3:8-17. The first part will examine aspects of personal life (faith in Christ, Christlike character, shunning evil and seeking peace). The second part is about the life of service which will describe the readiness to give accountability and to suffer for the truth.

Abstract

There is a fundamental difference between being a disciple and being a follower. There are no shortcuts to high-quality Christianity. This noble goal can only be achieved through the process of discipleship. The outreach and discipleship practiced today should reflect on what is written in the Bible. The examples of discipleship in Scripture should be the pattern of discipleship in the post-modern era. This is what drives the implementation of this research (as an urgency). God's Word applies to all generations, so there must be a breakthrough to find relevance with what’s stated in the Bible. The goal of this writing should reflect on what is written in the Bible for the church to make discipleship as the main strategy in triggering congregational growth, in quality and subsequently quantity growth. Church cannot be satisfied with the overflowing number of visitors at Sunday services. Nor by the grandeur church building, which is indeed the main attraction. A good and proper reason for church satisfaction is the growth born of the discipleship as stated in the Bible. Therefore, it is necessary to design discipleship processes towards life-changing repentance based on simple materials and natural guidance in the community.

Abstract

This article explores the metaphor of Israel's ugliness in Hosea 7 as a retrospective of the people's spirituality. This research is motivated by the need for more research that comprehensively discusses the metaphors of Hosea 7. Some studies only discuss one or two metaphors from the four metaphors described by Hosea 7. The method used is thematic analysis modeling. In the study, the author will pay attention to the interconnectedness of the text in the context of Hosea 7 and the book of Hosea as a whole through the lens of metaphor. The study found that the metaphor refers to the wickedness and sin committed by Israel. It is related to adultery and power; her identity has become blurred and contaminated with other nations; they joined the nations to gather strength rather than relying on God and have worshipped idols. The exploration of metaphors in Hosea 7 is a retrospective study of people's spirituality. Learning from Israel's ugliness enables retrospection so as not to repeat the same mistakes and make the people more attached to God.

Abstract

Romans 9:33 is known as a very complicated verse with Old Testament intertextual quotations from Isaiah 8:14 and 28:16 in splits and crosses. The use of allusions as key words such as "Zion" and "stone" requires analytical methods and specific rules so as not to be biased in semantic interpretation. Even the change of “disturbed” (Isa 28:16 KJV) to “be ashamed” (Rom 9:33 KJV) has meaning. The inerrancy of the Scriptures can be questioned if it is called just a variation or a scribal error, because there is no scribal doubtness in the textual critics. The research aims to prove Paul's historical canonical semantic intertextual writing technique in Romans 9:33 as a key verse explaining theology justified by faith to the Roman plural congregation. Qualitative research through canonical intertextual analysis is carried out using a semantic historical memory approach through multidisciplinary discourses such as cognitive psychology and architectural archeology. The results of the study show that Romans 9:33 was written using the synchronic multiple contexts semantic memory method which is capable of explaining with precision the theology justified by faith, both to the Jewish and non-Jewish congregations in Rome. The result in this study also provides new afirmation of the dynamics of intertextuality poststructuralism in a canonical context for modern hermeneutics.

Abstract

Inerrancy doctrine appeared at the late 19th century in America as an answer to the emergence of critical and literature analysist movement from Europe, especially from Germany. The challenge toward the authority of the bible had emerged since the early church father, especially toward the historical aspect of the book of Genesis. It has been a straightforward notion to link doctrine of inerrancy with the evangelical Christians. The identity of being Evangelical with inerrancy doctrine seems inseparable, ever since. However, the rapid shift in theology, politics, and culture, firstly in the West, and, secondly, around the world demands the identity and its doctrinal statement to be redefined. Theological debates and the implication toward Indonesian churches had not been impactful significantly toward Christians in non-ordained level. Nevertheless, in academic sphere the distinction between ecumenical and evangelical Christians has emerged and yet is limited in writing discourse.

Abstract

This paper attempts to examine the theological value of Psalm 114:1 through a Biblical inductive hermeneutic study approach, relying on the procedures; morphological and grammatical-syntactic analysis of verse 1. The theological value is mainly about the principle of God's sovereignty and how it impacts modern Christian life. The text is seen to provide an important foundation for the Christian faith in understanding the sovereignty of the Lord God, through His existence and work in the life history of Old Testament Israel. The theological principles generated by the textual analysis procedure are seen to have parallels to the liberating work of God's people by Jesus Christ in the New Testament. With such understanding, God's people today will be able to endure in the hope of faith amidst the dynamics of contemporary challenges.

Abstract

It is undeniable that today's social reality often portrays injustice. Many events show how the privileges of the strong have weakened and oppressed the weak. This situation also occurred during the time of Amos as a prophet. The strong oppress the weak and make the social situation unbalanced. The purpose of this study is to find God who is on the side of the weak and seek social justice for community life. The method used in this study is qualitative with critical interpretation approach. The results reveal that God, as preached by Amos, is a god of social equality and favor, especially to those who are weakened and marginalized. Because God is on the side of the weak, God's people must also show their partiality to the weak and poor.

Abstract

Generation Z's tendency to leave the church could occur when the church does not answer the needs and accommodate the generation’s perpectuve . Therefore, mission services to generation Z need to be carried out contextually, requiring services that suit their needs. Contextual mission services must develop the right "strategy" to reach generation Z. The method used is literature study observing books and scientific journals to support research writing. The main topic discussed is contextual mission strategy, where it is necessary to understand culture, Generation Z problems and services for Generation Z in utilizing ICT. Thus, three things were found in this research, firstly, sharing spiritual content via social media, because generation Z can spend quite a long time playing social media. Secondly, carry out spiritual activities online that attract attention creatively and innovatively. Finally, involve generation Z in service, so interest and appreciation might occur in the activities.

Abstract

The writing of this article was motivated by a partial understanding of the concept of eternal life, where believers often only understand it as a matter of the future. In fact, understanding eternal life without having implications for current temporal life will weaken Christianity. John emphasizes in his gospel that the eternal life referred to also touches the present aspects of every believer. The impact can be felt when they live in the world. One of the texts that conveys this is John 12:23-28a. The method used is style analysis, with emphasis on the chiasmus structure. The result obtained is that the chiasm pattern contained in it and this pattern shows that eternal life is the axis that is central in formulating life goals. The purpose of life is: 1) glorifying God through obedience and suffering; 2) carrying out God's mission to reach people who do not yet believe; and 3) serve God with a willingness to follow Him and believe in the promise of glory that will be available in eternity.
