About the Journal PHARMACOLOGY, MEDICAL REPORTS, ORTHOPEDIC, AND ILLNESS DETAILS (COMORBID) is an international, modern, general medical publication that publishes research on all aspects of medicine, from fundamental research to significant clinical trials and cost-effectiveness analyses. We generally publish human research that contribute to our understanding of medical epidemiology, etiology, and physiology; the development of prognostic and diagnostic technologies; clinical trials that evaluate the efficacy of particular therapies and comparative trials; and systematic reviews. We want to encourage the conversion of fundamental research into clinical trials and clinical evidence into therapeutic practice. When studies in animal models produce remarkable research findings that are extremely clinically relevant, we publish them on occasion. The international medical community, as well as educators, policymakers, patient advocacy groups, and other interested parties, are among our target audiences. The online edition of COMORBID is updated on a regular basis. Medical Informatics, Basic Science, Clinical Science, Case Report, Brief Communication, Public Health, Public Policy, and Review Articles from all branches of medicine and associated subjects are published in PHARMACOLOGY, MEDICAL REPORTS, ORTHOPEDIC, AND ILLNESS DETAILS (COMORBID)

Abstract

In Indonesia, diarrheal disease still frequently affects toddlers. In 2017, Lampulo Health Center in Banda Aceh City recorded 216 cases of diarrhea among toddlers. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between mothers' knowledge and the prevention of diarrhea in toddlers within the Lampulo Public Health Center's service area in Banda Alam Subdistrict, Banda Aceh, in 2019. This was a cross-sectional study with a target population of 216 toddlers. We selected 68 respondents using a proportional sampling technique. The research took place in the Lampulo Health Center's service area, Kuta Alam Sub-District, Banda Aceh City, from May 2 to May 22, 2019. The findings revealed several concerning statistics: 54.4% of children under five did not receive exclusive breastfeeding, 54.4% of toddlers had a poor diet (MP-ASI), 63.2% used contaminated water, 58.8% had inadequate handwashing practices, 60.3% used unsanitary diapers (Jamaban), 63.2% disposed of baby stool improperly, 64.7% of toddlers had not received measles immunization, 54.4% of mothers had insufficient knowledge, and 60.3% of mothers were unaware of how to prevent diarrhea. Statistical analysis yielded a P-value of 0.001, indicating a significant relationship between mothers' knowledge and the prevention of diarrhea in infants at the Lampulo Health Center in Banda Alam Sub-District, Banda Aceh City in 2019. We recommend that the Health Center implement the LROA (Layanan Pencegahan Diare pada Balita) program to provide diarrhea prevention services for toddlers by healthcare professionals to mothers with limited knowledge on the subject.

Abstract

Malnutrition in young individuals can have severe consequences, including complex issues such as short stature and stunting. Stunting during early childhood can negatively impact intelligence quotient (IQ), psychomotor development, motor skills, and neurosensory integration. Therefore, the role of parents in preventing stunting is crucial. The aim of this research is to investigate strategies for preventing stunting among families with newborns using the Planned Behavior Theory approach in Lampulo Village, Banda Aceh City, in 2019. This research is a descriptive correlation study with a cross-sectional approach, conducted from August 7th to 31st, 2019. The study's population consisted of all mothers at risk of stunting in Lampulo Village, Banda Aceh City, with a sample size of 74 people selected through proportional sampling. The study's results indicated that there was a significant influence of behavioral beliefs (p=0.011), normative beliefs (p=0.021), and control beliefs (p=0.020) on stunting prevention in families with young children. It is hoped that this research can provide valuable insights to healthcare providers and community health centers (posyandu) in delivering information on stunting prevention.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women worldwide. According to statistics from GLOBOCAN 2020, 1.2 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and 410,000 (35%) will die from this disease. Breast cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer among women in Indonesia, accounting for 30.8% of all female cancer cases in 2020 and causing 20.4% of female cancer-related deaths in the same year. Breast cancer screening plays a vital role in reducing deaths caused by breast cancer. Various breast cancer imaging techniques have been introduced for diagnosing breast cancer, such as Magnetic Resonance (MR) mammography, Ultrasound, Elastography, Mammography, and Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS). Ultrasound (US) and mammography are the two most important modalities for breast imaging. In younger women under the age of 35, ultrasound is the primary tool used to investigate breast problems. Even in the older age group, ultrasound plays a crucial role in breast imaging, particularly for the assessment of mass lesions. Breast ultrasound can be used for both screening and diagnostic purposes. Ultrasound evaluates breast tissue without the use of ionizing radiation or the injection of contrast material and is affordable, readily available, and well-tolerated by patients. The American College of Radiology (ACR) proposed the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) to standardize the characterization of sonographic breast lesions according to five criteria categories: mass shape, orientation, margin, echo pattern, and posterior features.

Abstract

Dexmedetomidine, an alpha 2 receptor agonist sedative drug, has recently garnered attention as a viable alternative to midazolam, a widely used benzodiazepine for sedation in adult patients. The aim of this study was to conduct a comprehensive comparison of the clinical sedative efficacy, cost-effectiveness, and safety profiles of dexmedetomidine versus midazolam, utilizing a randomized controlled trial design. The search encompassed several databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Knowledge, CINAHL, the United States National Library of Medicine, and Google Scholar for Systematic Reviews, using the keywords 'dexmedetomidine,' 'midazolam,' and 'effectiveness.' The findings revealed that dexmedetomidine demonstrated a more favorable safety profile, with a lower incidence of delirium compared to midazolam. In terms of effectiveness, no significant differences were observed between the two drugs for local sedation. Notably, adult patients treated with dexmedetomidine had a shorter Intensive Care Unit (ICU) stay (7 days) compared to those receiving midazolam (10 days). Similarly, pediatric ICU treatment indicated a shorter duration with dexmedetomidine (20 hours) as opposed to midazolam (38 hours). Regarding cost-effectiveness, dexmedetomidine emerged as a cost-saving option, being approximately 10% cheaper than midazolam for adult ICU patients. These findings collectively highlight the advantages of dexmedetomidine over midazolam, encompassing superior safety, effectiveness, and cost-efficiency, thus providing valuable insights for healthcare practitioners and decision-makers.
