Abstract

This article wants to show that intergenerational worship is not just a technical matter of combining all generations into one worship. Moreover, intergenerational worship contains a depth of biblical, theological, philosophical values and has a function as a space to process and learn about Christian values (understanding). Through intergenerational worship, church members from all generations learn (process) to build the right motivation in worship. The main thing is not about receiving but giving, even giving the best for God. Intergenerational worship emphasizes the collectivity, not personality. Not just competing to pursue desires (consumptive) and satisfaction (individualistic) themselves and generation groups, on the contrary, it encourages each generation to be more open, humble and willing to learn from each other. Intergenerational worship is also a learning space to reconcile tensions, erode competition (competition) and the tendency to dominate between generations.

Abstract

This research focuses on and aims to recover the view of objectivating the female body, which is reduced to merely satisfying male lust, a source of sin, and other negative attachments. This perspective is suspected to be one of the factors in the sexual violence that occurs. The research method used in this research is qualitative, with a philosophical-theological approach. The philosophical approach uses Armada Riyanto's thoughts on “Menjadi-Mencintai” and “Relasionalitas:, while theologically using the human concept in the Document on Church Unity (DKG), Joas Adiprasetya's thoughts on the body in “the Labirin Kehidupan”, and the Theology of the Body of Pope John Paul II's. Beside that, this research also uses a documentation study approach to the DKG-PGI as well as several points of discussion in the PGI MPL annual meeting related to the spirituality of modesty. The findings of this research, that women's bodies are also in the image and likeness of God, and women's bodies should be respected by not crossing the boundaries of access so that sexual violence occurs. Beside that, in the findings from the documentation study on DKG, there is not a single word explicitly about sexual violence, although perhaps PGI discusses it in a larger scope, namely human rights. In this research, a possible offer to respond to the complexity of problems related to sexual violence within the scope of churches in Indonesia is to include in the DKG-PGI the church's commitment to jointly address and prevent sexual violence; encourage member churches to prepare prospective ministers and ministers with an awareness of the knowledge of sexual violence, such as by developing a 'Theology of the Body' and practicing a spirituality of moderation; on the other hand, if sexual violence has occurred, it is important to provide a safe place and advocate for victims of sexual violence.

Abstract

Throughout the church's history, the debate on Christology has been an important and controversial topic. One is about the Divinity and humanity of Jesus, which has been a long debate in the history of Christianity. Jesus' divinity and humanity are essential because they relate to the foundation of the believer's faith. In addition to the debate about the Christology of Jesus among Christians, there is another debate among the Jews about the person of Jesus himself, namely that Jesus is not the Messiah. Although many biblical texts have been used to defend the issue of Christology, there are still other biblical texts that have not been studied as a basis for discussing the issue. The purpose of this study is to add primary biblical references to the apologetics of Christology. The biblical basis for examining the nature of Godliness and humanity and the Messiahship of Jesus is the Gospel of Mark 9:2-13. The method used is the exegesis method. This method is suitable for finding a clear meaning of the word to be analyzed. The result of this study is that the words Transfigured (metamorphoo) , Son (huios), and Man (anthropos) explain that Jesus is a true man and a true God and as Heir, that is, the anointed Messiah of God.

Abstract

The aims of this study is to gain an in-depth comprehension of the teachings of Aluk Sola Pemali among Aluk Todolo adherents, and to facilitate a theological dialogue based on scriptural interpretation aimed at fostering harmony. This study employs a method that is qualitative and descriptive in nature, which involves both an analysis of relevant literature and conducting field research. To create harmony within the Sillanan society, field research was conducted by means of in-depth interviews to ascertain the meaning of Aluk sola Pemali, which was then compared with the teachings of the Scriptures. The research findings indicate that the encounter between Aluk sola Pemali and the Scriptures shares a common core teaching. In Aluk sola Pemali, the emphasis is on the way of life by Tintiri Buntu as a guiding principle, while in the Scriptures, rules and regulations are contained within the Law of Moses and the Law of Christ, serving as a way of life with a similar core teaching to Aluk sola Pemali. The particularistic differences between the two represent a beauty that needs to be embraced with an attitude of tolerance in weaving harmony.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) describe the views of the Toraja people about the tana' system; (2) Analyzing the Christology of Liberation in correlation with the practice of the tana' system in Toraja and (3) Constructing a Christology of Liberation which brings a transformative function to the self-understanding of the Kaunan (servants) in church and social life. The method used is a qualitative method with an anthropological paradigm and an ethnographic approach through literature review and field research (interviews and observations). The results of this study found that the tana' system is understood as a social stratum or level in society that leads to duties and responsibilities that are accepted as a way of regulating social life. The Christology of liberation brings a transformative function to every land' that gives birth to love and justice. Love moves the nobility (the highest tana') to embrace and express concern for the people who are accepted as fellow creatures who are in the same image and similar to God as well as co-workers with God in the sphere of service. Likewise, love brings you to understand yourself as a creation that is in the same image and similar to God who has also been redeemed through Jesus Christ to feel worthy, embraced and loved.

Abstract

The crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic bring pain and suffering, and hope is the only thing that helps us deal with the impact of the pandemic. The issue of hope is also raised in the book of Ezekiel. The Babylonian conquest caused the Israelites to experience total social, economic, political, cultural, and religious destruction. Using a socio-historical approach, this article aims to analyze Ezekiel 37:1-14. The results of reading the text show that the prophecy about the resurrection of dry bones gives hope that there will be a resurrection of life and restoration for the Israelites, which is marked by their return to their land. Dry bones can also be used to describe our present condition when facing the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though Ezekiel's book has different historical conditions and backgrounds from our current context, the theological reflection on Ezekiel 37:1-14 gives hope for God's power and sovereignty, which can reverse crisis situations and restore and renew our current life.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to examine marriage by capture from the perspective of Christian marriage so that, in the end, the church, government, and all levels of society can determine the correct attitude towards catch marriage. This paper uses a qualitative method with data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation studies. Sampling used purposive sampling and snowball sampling. Capture marriage, one of the marriage methods in Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, is a tradition of kidnapping women to make her a bride. This has been practiced by noble descendants for prestige purposes since the era of kingdom rule in Sumba. The results obtained show that marriage by capture has experienced a shift in meaning, where it was once done for prestige and by mutual consent, but now it is an act of violence and crime that is very detrimental and even demeaning to women. In the perspective of Christian marriage, the capture of marriage is an act that opposes the Word of God because marriage should be based on love. The government, churches, non-governmental organizations, traditional leaders, and community leaders have expressed their rejection of marriage by capture. Evidence of this rejection is the existence of policies or regulations and a number of other programs to overcome and eliminate capture marriage. However, so far, the government, churches, non-governmental organizations, traditional leaders, and community leaders have not really implemented every existing regulation.

Abstract

Religion and violence have long been linked. In Christianity, the presence of violent texts in the Bible, especially in the Old Testament, further exacerbates this situation. The Old Testament texts include three types of violence: human violence against humans, violence perpetrated by God, and human appeals to God for violence. This legacy of biblical violence creates theological and ethical challenges for those who seek spiritual and ethical guidance from the Bible. This paper aims to examine the responses or views of the faithful, who have no formal education in the Bible, towards violent texts in the Old Testament. The research method used is qualitative, with a field study and a literature study approach. Interviews were conducted with informants to explore their understanding of the biblical texts of violence, and the findings will be confronted with expert explanations through a literature study. The resource persons in this study are parishioners of St. Agata-Parish of Maria Assumpta Pakem, Yogyakarta, with various educational backgrounds. The results of this study attempt to present theological and ethical ways of understanding violent texts so that the faithful can gain a more balanced and contextual understanding of these texts. By exploring people's understanding of violent texts in the Old Testament, this research contributes to understanding the complexities and challenges faced by the faithful in reading and understanding the Bible.
