Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop an instrument for assessing social attitude competence whose constructs are valid according to experts and empirically valid and reliable based on field trials in Civics learning for high school students. This research was conducted through a quantitative descriptive approach at SMP Negeri 1 Gebang. Social attitude assessment instrument was used and it contained 28 items and an expert validation observation sheet. Design validation was done by reviewing the product design by three experts (expert judgment). The study was conducted to determine the feasibility of the instrument from the aspect of substance, construction, and language of the social attitude assessment instrument. Advice was given by experts after doing research to get approval, which was later used as a benchmark to state that the product was logically valid. The measurement of the content validity of social attitude statements was conducted using Likert scale and the reliability test used the Rasch Model approach. The results of the field test showed that the social attitude assessment instrument was valid in terms of content and constructs. The reliability test using the Rasch model approach showed that the product reliability was categorized as satisfactory. The final product is considered suitable for direct use by teachers and can be further developed with grid references.

Abstract

This study is purposed to test the factors that encourage consumers to subscribe to Netflix. The sample in this respondent is selected using a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of all Indonesians who have watched trailers of several Netflix films in various media. The number of valid respondents is 222. All data are analyzed using the PLS-SEM method. This study indicates that subscription intention to Netflix is significantly affected by brand image, trailer satisfaction, and the quality of Netflix service. In addition, the brand image in this study also has a significant connection to Netflix trailer satisfaction. However, service quality has insignificant effect on trailer satisfaction. These findings are expected to help Netflix improve the quality of its service to increase customer satisfaction and maintain Netflix's image to stay good so that customers intend to subscribe to Netflix.

Abstract

This self-observation report aims to investigate the translanguaging practices of teacher-students’ interactions in multilingual classrooms in an International Islamic Boarding School (henceforth: Pesantren). Since Pesantren is a multilingual and multicultural melting pot for Islam-based character building, it is necessary for English teachers in Pesantren to consider some relevant teaching approaches that merit to the needs of multilingual classrooms. Through extensive navigation, we found that translanguaging is one of referred teaching approaches that can accommodate the needs of learning English in multilingual context. However, empirical findings using translanguaging approach in Pesantren is found rare so far.  Thus, this study is focused on the use of translanguaging to facilitate English vocabulary learning in a multilingual context. This self-observational report describes the first author’s teaching description about her teaching practices in a Pesantren classroom. She recorded her face-to-face interaction when explaining the meaning and the functions of English vocabularies. She also documented the lesson plans, learning materials, and students’ work to complete the self-observational report. The data were then coded and analyzed with theory-driven thematic analysis. This report found that translanguaging practices that she did were code-switching and code-mixing. When the teacher practiced translanguaging, the students tended to be able to use their L1 (Bahasa Indonesia) and L2 (Arabic) as linguistic resources to learn L3 (English).

Abstract

Since the quality of academic services can affect students’ satisfaction, identification of academic quality attributes is needed. It is divided into several factors using factor analysis and modeling the relationship between academic quality and students’ satisfaction using the multiple regression method. This research used primary data obtained from questionnaires given to undergraduate students of Universitas Indonesia. The results showed six factors affecting students’ satisfaction. However, only two of them, i.e. the lecturers’ abilities to deliver learning materials and the quality of the classroom and building, were significant. The top priority factor was the lecturers’ abilities to deliver learning materials.

Abstract

Storytelling in native languages is an integral part of human life. This art form has been existing since immemorial times in India. In Indian society in general and in Odia society in particular the grandparents/parents used to play a key role in telling stories to their grandchildren. By virtue of their wisdom, they used to adopt the stories from the ancient texts to the contemporary needs and societal and family contexts. The oral practice that transcends spatiotemporal offers many insights to the kids through the informing and enlightening process. The present study is an engagement with the critical comparison between the ancient and the modern (digital) storytelling practices to find out which practice is more effective in transforming the kids into more ethical and responsible citizens. The present study applied an epistemological analysis to examine both the above pedagogical practices in relation to their effectiveness in boosting the creative and imagination levels to next higher levels. The study conducted several open ending interviews with the elders who engaged their kinds with the ancient stories and the modern practitioners involved in storytelling through digital platforms such as YouTube. After examining the contentions put forward by various stakeholders in the process of storytelling, the study showed that the ancient system of storytelling still has many advantages in enlightening the kids over the digital platforms of technological advancement notwithstanding.

Abstract

This study discusses about deradicalization in Indonesia with a bibliometric approach. The data presented in this study used the Scopus database and were visualized using the VOSviewer. The data collected were obtained by searching with the keywords "(TITLE-ABS-KEY (deradicalization) OR TITLE-ABS-KEY (deradicalisation) OR TITLE-ABS-KEY (counter-terrorism") AND TITLE-ABS-KEY (Indonesia)". This study aims to determine: (1) the number of documents; (2) the number of documents by the author; (3) the number of documents by affiliation; (4) the number of documents by country; (5) documents based on the subject area, (6) documentation based on the type of research, (7) co-occurrence and (8) co-author. The results of this study indicated that there were 262 documents discussing deradicalization in Indonesia from 1980 to 2022. The Islamic University of Indonesia became the most dominating university in writing articles on deradicalization and efforts to prevent the acts of terrorism. This showed that scholars actively study the theorizing and deradicalization issues in Indonesia. The highest publication was found in 2021 with 38 documents. Gunaratna, R became the author who has mostly discussed the deradicalization program in Indonesia with six documents. Most authors published articles; 68.7% of them do so, and 48.4% do so in the study of social science and political science.
