Abstract

The Wae Bobok ecotourism destination is one of the alternative tourist attractions around Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency. As an alternative to tourism, the development of the Wae Bobok destination tends to be slow compared to other tourist destinations. One of the main problems is the ability of the local managers to promote the Waebobok destination and the ability to interpret tourist objects in Wae Bobok. Therefore, this community service aim is training in developing the ability to compose narratives by answering 6 question words, namely Apa (what), Siapa (who), Kapan (when), Dimana (where), Mengapa (why), and Bagaimana (how) (5W+1H) and convey interpretation using the role-play method. The results show an improvement in the ability to train participants to compose better Wae Bobok destination narrations by containing 5W+1H elements and improve their ability to interpret Wae Bobok destination narrations.

Abstract

The importance of digital literacy and the challenges of the industrial revolution 4.0 that students must face are the main reasons why Informatics become one of subjects in Merdeka Curriculum taught at the junior and senior high school levels in Indonesia. However, in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum, especially the Informatics subject, there are still many schools and teachers who are not ready and do not understand the content and teaching materials of Informatics subjects which are very different from ICT subjects in the 2013 Curriculum. Therefore, the community service team of Informatics Study Program held training for Informatics teachers in Magelang Regency. 81 teachers participated in online and offline training and mentoring focused on 7 elements of informatics knowledge. The teacher training results showed that 36.4% of the participants thought the training activities helped, and 63.6% thought that the training activities beneficently improved their understanding of Informatics material in the Merdeka curriculum. In addition, 36.4% considered themselves more confident, 45.5% were ready, and 18.1% were quite ready about implementing the Informatics subject. As a follow-up, teachers still expect ongoing and more intensive assistance regarding computational thinking, algorithms and programming, cross-disciplinary practice and preparation of teaching materials.

Abstract

The challenge most often faced today is how to make students and teachers aware of the importance of literacy. One of the important literacy is scientific literacy. Scientific literacy is defined as a person's ability to use scientific knowledge and scientific process skills to understand and make decisions about the natural environment. In this community service, strengthening scientific literacy and assisting in the manufacture of teaching modules for elementary school teachers at Kanisius Demangan Baru Elementary School. The implementation of community service is carried out in 3 stages, namely: (1) mapping the teacher's interest in scientific literacy (2) the team prepares training materials based on the mapping (3) strengthening scientific literacy and assisting in making teaching modules. From this community service, teachers can create teaching modules that can train students' scientific literacy skills well.

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the reasons and solutions why and how Indonesian Migrant Workers (IMWs), need to increase their English proficiency. We use a sociolinguistic approach to understanding the phenomenon of English as a Global Language including its history, social functions, prestige, and why its speakers gain better social status in society. Furthermore, we discuss the data we gained from dispersing questionnaires for need analysis in google forms to some networks of Indonesian in Hong Kong (59 correspondents). The data doubtlessly show they want to enhance their English mastery and intend to join our free online English course program. In the second year of the program (2022), we become more convinced in conducting the program for a longer run in the future, as unexpectedly the number of IMWs who want to join the course has raised four times (about three hundred from the expected ninety participants only), and have gained supports from various institutions such as the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesian in Hong Kong and Macau, and Indonesian Diaspora Network Global. As an academic institution, we are assured that the present program will be a valuable contribution for society, especially the IMWs.

Abstract

The practicum management of chemistry teachers at senior high school on the topic of acid-base is quite good, although the majority are monotonous in testing acid-base properties using large amounts of solution. Some schools only limit the practical use of extracts from various flowers with certain color pigments, then tested on several samples and used as natural indicators, but have not paid attention to the number of reagents and estimated waste generated. The purpose of this activity is to improve the quality of classical practicum and the attractiveness of acid-base indicators from materials that refer to the principles of green chemistry. Service activities are carried out in training through the practicum method of making acid-base indicators using purple cabbage extract, sodium alginate, and 1% CaCl2 solution. This training provides a new and innovative description of the formation of purple cabbage extract gel as an acid-base indicator in the form of red balls under acidic conditions and green under alkaline conditions. Chemistry teachers were very happy and felt that this practicum was simple and interesting to be packaged and brought to the routine practicum conducted at schools.

Abstract

Empowerment of awareness and the meaning of life of religious tolerance is a very important activity to be given to the community. The aim is to develop broad insights and understanding, to form tolerant behavior that is shown through concrete actions that support the creation of a safe, peaceful, harmonious life in an integrative society based on multiculturalism values. This tolerant life empowerment activity is a real effort to overcome various forms of conflict due to intolerance in society. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out community empowerment activities in the community of inter-religious dialogue services to build awareness of living as a tolerant nation and state. The method used in this community service activity is the socialization of empowerment (lectures) and simulations (dialogue/fraternal sharing and real action) guided by the speakers. The subjects in this empowerment activity are the people who join the Inter-religious Dialogue Service Community, especially the Inter-religious Dialogue Service Community of St. Ignasius Loyola in the Kepanjen Parish area, Malang, with a total of 80 participants. As a result of this empowerment of religious tolerance, the community has broad knowledge and understanding regarding the importance of a safe and harmonious life, and is able to build an open and adaptive culture of religious tolerance.

Abstract

Tourism is considered as a interrelated system consisting of many components which are related to each other. In this case, it is impossible for a tourism provider to provide the tourism product by itself. There should be a partnership developed among many suppliers so that the tourism product has more variety. The community of Tegalbalong should do the same thing. The steps start from the USP of tourism in Tegalbalong because it will define the kind of tourism product that will be offered. Then it also defines the ones who will be invited in partering with Tegalbalong community.

Abstract

In 21st-century learning, life skills are indicated to be essential. Basic literacy is known to be one of them. Unfortunately, Indonesia is indicated to be low in literacy. Despite the Gerakan Literasi Sekolah [School Literacy Movement] offered by the government, literacy results are still low. This analysis indicated that improvement in Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) is needed. This condition encouraged us to introduce essential questions as a part of language literacy to teachers to develop basic literacy skills. Reviews indicated that essential questions were effective to stimulate HOTS. Adopting educational design research, the researcher provided a diagnostic test to identify teachers’ literacy levels. The diagnostic was then followed by a short workshop to assist teachers to develop learning scenarios with essential questions in it. The learning scenarios developed by teachers suggested the requirement for teachers to have more practice in developing essential questions. Therefore, a module with step-by-step ways to develop essential questions followed by thorough workshops and training needs to be proposed as the follow-up.
