Abstract

Honorific informative strategies play integral parts in Indonesian speech acts of the informed family of Makassar’s society. Those honorific informative strategies  have their unique  characteristics.  This study was conducted  to get the description and the explanation of honorific informative strategies in the Makassar’s informed family’s imperative speech acts. The design of this study was qualitative research by applying pragmatics theory design along with the ethnographic communication analysis model. The result of this study shows that honorific informative  strategies  were  implemented  through  imperative  and  interrogative speech  acts  which  used  a  variation  of  honorific  alternatives  based  on  different contexts suitable with their social and culture norms

Abstract

Effects of seductive aesthetic in multimedia on learning outcomes. Presenting the message in a seductive aesthetic is common in multimedia learning applications. This study aims to test the effect of the aesthetic message design on learning  outcomes.  Applied    experimental  method    to  compare  the  effects  of message  design  of  aesthetic  format  (DPS),  essential  (DPE),  redundancy  verbal (DPR), aesthetic and redundancy verbal (DPS-R) against the results learning of 2 groups different literacy. Analysis of data using MANOVA with significance level 0.05. DPE presentation proved the most superior in learning retention and transfer. Presentation DPS produces a higher transfer on the subject that have a visual rather than verbal literacy. The results of this study suggest that it should give priority to multimedia design theories are based on dual coding of memory than the aesthetic theories of learning when the goals are directed to maximize the transfer capability

Abstract

الملخص: يهدف هذا البحث إلى وصف التخطيط والتنفيذه في عملية تعليمية ميدانية لقسم الأدب العربي كلية الآداب بجامعة مالانج الحكومية. وأجري هذا البحث الكيفي والوصفي في المدرسة الثانوية الحكومية 8 والمدرسة الثانوية الإسلامية الحكومية 3 مالانج. و وصلت الباحثة الى نتيجة تقول إن الخطة تعتبر مستوفية للشروط  حيث أن فيها هوية التعليم الكاملة واختيار الوسائل التي تساعد توضيح فهم التلاميذ للمادة وسهلة للتطبيق. و في تنفيذ التعليم قام الطلبة بالأنشطة الافتتاحية والأساسية باستخدام الطريقة والوسائل التعليمية المتنوعة. ولكن قلة الحماسة في استخدامها تسبب قلة مشاركة التلاميذ في أنشطة تعليم اللغة العربية. وقلة استعدادهم قبل تنفيذ التعليم تسبب عدم تعليق المادة بالمعارف الأخرى التي تناسب بتطور العلوم وعدم التقويم في الأنشطة الاختتامية.

Abstract

This qualitative research is an attempt to explain the structural, lexical, and semantic aspects of English proverbs by using grounded theory approach. The design of this research is embedded single case study which employs Spradley’s qualitative data analysis techniques. This study used non-participant observation method which involved scanning reading and taking-note techniques. The data were then categorized into taxonomies by using distributional and identity method. The result of the research shows that: (1) the structures of English proverbs are varied in forms, from the simple to complex, (2) the inter-constituent relations are not rigid, (3) some unique lexical formulas construct the proverbial structures, and (4) lexicons that construct English proverbs have their own semantic distinctive functions

Abstract

Abstract: This research confirms that the language style used in the narratives of Alquran is theistic style, which varies depending on the context and the theme as well as the contemporary relevance. This research aims to (a) describe the style of Noah’s narrative in Alquran; (b) describe the stylistics of the elements forming the dialogues of Prophet Noah’s narrative; and (c) uncover as well as describe the meaning and the impression of Quranic dialgues in the narrative of Prophet Noah.This study is qualitative research. Meanwhile, based on the object of the study and thegoal to obtain, this study belongs to library research assessed with content analysis. Thus, this study focuses on literary data sources, namely all kinds of documents or other written sources, such as scientific books, journals, acrhives, private documents, and other written articles.Based on the findings and the analysis, it is concluded that (1) Noah’s narrative is presented in various surahs to show the authenticity and peculiarity of Quranic uslub; (2) the diction and the coresponding placement of the words are appropriate and varied, and the uslub described are also varied; and (3) the narrative described offers great significance and deep impression to strengthen the tauhid, patience, the fight between right and wrong, and severe punishments subjected to unbelievers.Permalink/DOI: dx.doi.org/10.17977/um015v45i22017p181

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the influence of Batak cultural values and religious practices for Batak language maintenance. The result of this qualitative study indicates that the influence of Batak cultural valaues and religious practices vary among Angkola/ Mandailing, Toba, Simalungun, Karo and Pakpak/Dairi.The language maintenance from those variations created a continuum in the implementation of Indonesian language as the national language especially in North Sumatra

Abstract

Appreciating the Indonesian contemporary  work of painting created by Agus Suwage must be related to the painter’s birth, existence, culture, and the nation environments condition. Mostly, Suwage exploit himself as an object which later on becomes a medium to express his restlessness through his ideas . The object of self portrait  in  Suwage’s  painting  is  a  metaphoric  icon.  However,  the  portraiture technique which is chosen by Suwage in his paintings does not tell a story about himself.

Abstract

The contextualization of educational values: Symbolic forms in the interaction of learning process in IAIN PalopoThis study describes aspects of symbolic forms that take place in the interaction of speech acts in learning process at IAIN Palopo, namely the formation of patterns of ideological transformation and character in learning process. Furthermore, this study aims to uncover the values of education expressed in the context of learning. The values are expressed through ideology and critical ideas are represented in symbolic forms. This study used Grounded Theory (GT) and ethnographic approach as it explored interaction behavior in learning. The research subjects were lecturers and students through which utterances containing symbolic forms as primary data sources were elicited via audiovisual recording. Data collection techniques used non-participatory observation and documents, while data analysis techniques employed identification, data reduction, interpretation, presentation, explanation, and conclusions respectively. This current study found some aspects of the continuity of ideology and character in the learning interaction discourse at IAIN Palopo transformed using the patterns of (1) interactions/commands, (2) interrogatives/questions, (3) warnings/advising, (4) comparisons, (5) flexibility, (6) flattery/praise, (7) reinforcement, (8) discipline/orderliness, (9) persuasive/promoting, (10) flexibility/acceptance, and (11) participatory. Here, the patterns function as a strategy for the speaker to express ideology and character to express educational values, such as competence, self-motivation, order, creativity, skills, personality, harmonious attitude, and togetherness that is developed through the context of the learning process. Keywords: contextualization, educational values, symbolic forms, learning processKontekstualisasi nilai pendidikan: Bentuk simbolik dalam interaksi proses pembelajaran di IAIN PalopoPenelitian ini mendeskripsikan aspek bentuk simbolik yang berlangsung dalam interaksi tindak tutur pembelajaran di IAIN Palopo, yaitu pembentukan pola transformasi ideologi dan karakter berlangsung dalam pembelajaran. Selanjutnya, penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap nilai-nilai pendidikan yang dinyatakan dalam kontekstualisasi pembelajaran. Nilai tersebut dinyatakan melalui ideologi dan ide kritis direpresentasikan dalam bentuk simbolik. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis grounded theory (GT) dan etnografi karena kajiannya didasarkan pada perilaku interaksi pembelajaran. Selanjutnya, digunakan pendekatan kualitatif bersifat alamiah. Subjek penelitian, yaitu dosen dan mahasiswa sebagai sumber data primer berupa tuturan (teks lisan) yang mengandung bentuk simbolik disadur melalui alat perekam (handycam). Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan observasi (nonpartisipatif), dan dokumen, sedangkan teknik analisis data, yaitu secara bertahap digunakan identifikasi, reduksi data, interpretasi, penyajian, eksplanasi, dan simpulan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis dan pembahasan ditemukan aspek keberlangsungan ideologi dan karakter dalam wacana interaksi pembelajaran di IAIN Palopo ditransformasi dengan menggunakan pola (1) interaksi/ perintah, (2) interogatif/ pertanyaan, (3) peringatan/ menasihati, (4) perbandingan, (5) keluwesan/ pelenturan, (6) sanjungan/ pujian, (7) penguatan, (8) kedisiplinan/ keteraturan, (9) persuasif/ mempromosikan, (10) fleksibilitas/ penerimaan, dan (11) partisipatif. Pola tersebut menjadi strategi penutur menyatakan ideologi dan karakter untuk mengungkap nilai-nilai pendidikan, seperti kompetensi, motivasi diri, keteraturan, kreativitas, keterampilan, kepribadian, sikap harmonis, kebersamaan yang terbangun melalui proses kontekstualisasi ruang pembelajaran.Kata Kunci: kontekstualisasi, nilai pendidikan, bentuk simbolik, interaksi belajar mengajar

Abstract

Interrogative sentence is one of verbal communication forms which is commonly used in classroom interaction. This type of sentence should be synchronized with its nonverbal elements. It is believed that verbal communication that goes with its nonverbal elements would be the basis for constructing positive thinking pattern and students’ behavior, especially those in grade I of Primary School. Therefore, the teachers’ expertise in synchronizing the interrogative sentences with its nonverbal elements is absolutely necessary. Such skill would help the teacher to enhance the students’ self-confidence and enthusiasm in learning. Furthermore, it could establish positive interpersonal relationship between the teacher and the students. Hence, the teacher, as one factor in determining the success of the learning process, should concern with the synchronization between interrogative sentence and its nonverbal elements to build conducive and interactive atmosphere in the classroom

Abstract

The constellation of Lacan’s subject register in Damar Shashangka’s translation of Serat GatholocoGatholoco is a figure in Serat Gatholoco, a literary work suspected to be written in the early 19th century. The Gatholoco character is said to have a constellation of desires that presents subversive symptoms, positioning Serat Gatholoco as a controversial text at that time. The aim of this study is to describe the constellation of desires in Serat Gatholoco translation from Damar Shashangka, using the economics perspective of the Lacanian subject. This study used the qualitative interpretive method. The result shows Gatholoco as a sublimation of ideas that become the image-subject in the symbolic register, which is a manifestation of alienation symptoms suppressed in the discourse of the Ruler. Naming as a true-born man declared by Gatholoco is a form of active narcissistic desire, a metonymy that connects identification and desire for Gatholoco’s self-hood. The identity of the naming is the substitution of one marker with the Other. Its word is a paternal metaphor, the substitution of the Father’s name (resistance efforts) for the Mother’s desire (primordial existence). This metaphor offers substantial resistance to the Father’s Law (puritan existence). Tokoh Gatholoco dikisahkan memiliki konstelasi hasrat yang menyajikan gejala subversif sehingga Serat Gatholoco menjadi teks yang kontroversial pada zamannya. Tulisan ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan konstelasi hasrat dalam Serat Gatholoco terjemahan Damar Shashangka ditilik dari ekonomi subjek register Lacanian. Metode kualitatif interpretatif digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan Gatholoco sebagai sublimasi gagasan yang menjadi citra-subjek dalam register simbolik yang merupakan manifestasi gejala alienasi yang ditekan dalam diskursus Sang Penguasa. Penamaan seperti lelaki sejati yang dideklarasikan Gatholoco merupakan bentuk hasrat narsistik aktif, metonimia yang menghubungkan identifikasi dan hasrat atas kedirian Gatholoco. Identitas atas penamaan tersebut merupakan substitusi satu penanda dengan Liyan. Kata tersebut merupakan metafora yang bersifat paternal, substitusi nama Ayah (upaya resistensi) demi hasrat sang Ibu (eksistensi primordialitas). Metafora tersebut menawarkan perlawanan secara subtansial terhadap Hukum Sang-Ayah (eksistensi puritan). Pada akhirnya, nama-nama sebutan dari identitas Gatholoco merupakan bentuk hasrat narsistik  pengarang serat itu sendiri.Kata kunci: Gatholoco, konstelasi hasrat, psikoanalisis
