Abstract

ABSTRACT Background Smoking and getting exposed to cigarette smoke in a long period of time can cause inflammatory response on respiratory tract. Mahkota dewa leaf contains beneficial biological component, such as flavonoid, alkaloid, and saponin that have anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and many others. Aim : to determine the effect of administration of mahkota dewa leaf (Phaleria macrocarpa) extract of inflamatory cells on lung histopathology in white male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to cigarette smoke. Methods : experimental research using Post-Test Only Control Group Design. The subject in this research were 30 male Wistar Rats (Rattus norvegicus) which were divided into 4 groups, a group without given any treatment (K-), a group where they only getting exposed to cigarette smoke (K+), a group where they exposed to cigarette smoke and given mahkota dewa leaf extract at 1500 mg/kgBW/day dose (K1), and the group exposed to cigarette smoke and a mahkota dewa leaf extract at a 2500 mg/kgBW/day dose (K2). , then the rats sacrificed to be made lung histological preparats to count the number of inflamatory cells Result : There was a significant difference on lung histopathology between K- and K+, P1, and P2. There was no significant difference infiltration cells on lung histopathology between K+, K1 and K2. Conclusion : Exposure to 5 cigarette smoke in 21 days caused lung histopathology changes. However, there was no effect of the administration of mahkota dewa leaves extract at 1500 mg/kgBW/day and 2500 mg/kgBW/day on lung histopathology of white male Wistar rats exposed to 5 cigarette smoke in 21 days

Abstract

ABSTRACT Multiple myeloma (MM) is a plasma cell dyscrasias characterized by five clinical signs namely anemia, monoclonal protein in serum and / or urine, bone radiology and abnormal bone pain, hypercalcemia and insufficiency and / or kidney failure. Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) is a clinical condition where Ig G and or Ig M antibodies bind to the red blood cell surface antigen and destruction of red blood cells through the complement system and the reticuloendothelial system. Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) is characterized by the production of antibodies directly against red blood cells. Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) is characterized by the production of antibodies directly against red blood cells. AIHA is a disorder that does not occur frequently, with an estimated incidence of 1-3 cases per 100,000 per year. A patient of Multiple Myeloma with AIHA who is likely to occur because of a non-specific bond that occurs due to high levels of protein M or some abnormalities of the patient's red blood cells, also has an eosinophillia. Eosinophilia from peripheral blood is defined as absolute eosinophil count ≥ 0.5 x 109 / L. In general, eosinophilia is divided into familial type and acquired type. To find out the causes of eosifillia from these patients, it needs more in-depth observation and examination

Abstract

Background: cervical cancer as the highest case in Indonesia in 2013, especially in the regions of East Java and Central Java. For the main cause itself is a persistent infection of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). However, there are also many factors that can be a risk such as age, parity, hormonal contraceptive use, and sexual activity. Because of the high incidence of cervical cancer in East Java, the purpose of this study was to determine the profile of cervical cancer events in Rumkital DR Ramelan Surabaya during the period January - December 2018. Method : descriptive study with a qualitative approach carried out at the Rumkital Oncology Clinic DR Ramelan surabaya during May - August 2019. The results showed that the majority of cervical cancer cases occur in women > 51 years old. Women with a history of parity ≥ 3 children have the highest percentage of 60%. The age group for first sexual intercourse has the same incidence both at age ≤ 20 years and > 20 years which is 50%. As many as 60% of women have a history of hormonal contraceptive use longer than 4 years. And the highest history of changing sexual partners occurred in those with only one sexual partner, which was 93.3%. Conclusions women aged > 51 years, have a history of parity ≥ 3 children, have sex at an early age ≤ 20 years, and use hormonal contraception ≥ 4 years, have a high risk of being cervical cancer. Abstract

Aedes aegypti bertindak sebagai vektor primer pembawa virus dengue yang menyebabkan Indonesia menjadi negara endemis DBD. Metode pengendalian vektor secara kimia dan fisik untuk mencegah penyebaran DBD dinilai kurang efektif sehingga diperlukan metode pengendalian vektor secara biologi sebagai tambahan. Tujuan penulisan ini untuk mengkaji potensi kemampuan predasi catfish sebagai pengendali vektor Ae. aegypti. Tulisan ini disusun dengan mengkaji delapan jurnal penelitian Indonesia, delapan jurnal penelitian internasional, laporan dan peraturan Kementrian Kesehatan Republik Indonesia, website World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), University of Florida Entomology and Nematology, dan satu buku teks. Hasil studi menunjukkan kemampuan predasi African sharptooth catfish (Clarias garipenus) dengan rata-rata 80,3% lebih besar dibanding Cyprinus carpio, Ctenopharyngodon idella, dan Oreochromis niloticus begitu pula kemampuan predasi Walking catfish (Clarias batrachus) dengan rata-rata 79,6% lebih besar dibanding Anabas testudineus, Oreochromis niloticus dan Poecilia reticulata. Penelitian eksperimental lebih lanjut untuk memperdalam informasi ilmiah kemampuan predasi berbagai spesies catfish terhadap larva nyamuk Ae. aegypti tetap diperlukan. Kerjasama antar bidang dan masyarakat juga dibutuhkan agar dapat mencegah penyebaran penyakit DBD dengan baik. Ikan pemakan larva nyamuk yang tergabung dalam spesies catfish yaitu African sharptooth catfish (Clarias garipenus) dan walking catfish (Clarias batrachus) berpotensi sebagai pengendali vektor secara biologi baru karena memiliki daya predasi yang sangat tinggi dibandingkan ikan pemakan larva nyamuk lain.

Abstract

Introduction: Acne or known as acne vulgaris is an inflammation of the pilosebaceous layer with blockage of the keratin material due to the Propionibacterium acnes (P.acne) bacteria. The prevalence of acne in Indonesia is 80%-85% in adolescents. Acne appearances can cause insecurity in our look. Acne medication has irritation side effects and already resistant so other alternatives medicines are needed. The production of pomelo (Citrus maxima merr) in Indonesia reaches 511 kg annually with a weight of 208 kg of pomelo peel. About 50% of pomelo peel is removed without reprocessing even though it contains a lot of antioxidants and antibacterial properties. Aims: To know the potential of pomelo peel as an alternative antibacterial P.acne that causes acne. Methods: Literature study using research articles or literature review articles from international and national journals in 10 years. Accessed from Pubmed, Garuda, NCBI, and Google Scholar by typing keywords. Around 30 articles were used in this review article. Results: The antioxidants of pomelo peel interfere with metabolism by inhibiting the performance of the enzyme reversing RNA transcriptase, DNA topoisomerase, transporting active bacteria, disrupting PH regulation, denaturing bacterial proteins, damaging cell membranes thus inhibiting replication and causing the death of P.acne. Conclusion: Pomelo peel is considered to be an antibacterial P.acne that causes acne. Further research is needed, especially in extract concentrations and side effects.

Abstract

Background : Coronavirus disease 19 is a disease caused by a corona virus which spreads through droplets. The rapid spread of the virus and the increasing incidence of covid-19 must be stopped immediately with specific prevention and handling. The community has a big role to play in preventing Covid-19. A good efforts of prevention really need the role of several factors such as knowledge and attitude. Objective : to analyze the relationship between knowledge and attitude of the community with the effort from preventing coronavirus disease 19 in Cakranegara Selatan village, Mataram City. Method : analytical observation with cross sectional design. The population in this study were people aged 18-40 years who lived in Cakranegara Selatan village. The sampels in this study were 397 people and the sampel was taken using purposive sampling. The instruments used in this study are modified online questionare and already passed validity and reliability test. Bivariate analysis uses the Correlation Spearman’s test with SPSS application. Result : univariate analysis showed 87,4% majority of respondent have good knowledge, 53,4% of respondent have enough attitude and 55,3% of respondent have bad effort of preventing the coronavirus disease 19. The bivariate analysis using Correlation Spearman’s test result found there were a relationship between knowledge and effort of preventing covid-19 with p value=0,000 and a relationship between society attitude and effort of preventing covid-19 with p value=0,000. Conclusion : there is a relationship between knowledge and attitude of the community with the effort from preventing coronavirus disease 19 in Cakranegara Selatan village, Mataram City.

Abstract

Abstract: Background : Children or teenagers who are facing Broken homes in their master person directly or indirectly can have an impact on mental health disorders, namely stress, anxiety, and depression, which adversely affect children.  This condition can be said to be a trigger and can make the child moody, sad or long because both parents are divorced. The cause of broken homes is due to several factors, namely: the factor of divorced parents, ugliness, economic period, busy period, and the last is the period of education. Method: This study is a type of observational analytic research with the design of cross-sectional study research and the taking until this research using the method of probability sampling that is random, to find out the level of Broken Home aam this study using a questionnaire made by the research-based on various sources obtained and for stress, anxiety, and depression itself using the questionnaire Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS 42). Result : From the results of the following research can be drawn the doubt that a broken home does not significantly cause high school students in this study to experience stress and anxiety. However, it is known that it can cause depression in high school students in this study significantly. Abstract

ABSTRACT Background : Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic syndrome characterized by an increase in blood glucose levels due to a lack of insulin, less effective insulin action or both. Hyperglycemia can cause a decrease in HDL cholesterol. Alloxan can reduce HDL cholesterol due to the mechanism of ROS formation. Moringa contains antioxidants that can prevent oxidative stress so that it is expected to increase HDL cholesterol levels. Method : This study used 24 male Wistar rats divided into 3 groups. The first group was given standard feed without alloxan induction, the second group was induced by 150 mg/kgBW intraperitoneal alloxan in the first day, and the third group was induced by alloxan in the first day and given 600 mg/kgBW Moringa leaf extract for 14 days begining at the fourth day. At the end of the study a serum HDL cholesterol levels were measured in each group.Result : One Way Anova test results showed significant decrease of serum HDL cholesterol (p = 0.024) in the alloxan-induced animal group (x = 26.88 mg/dL) compared to the group of rats fed with standard feed without alloxan induction (x = 33.13 mg/dL). There was no significant increase (p = 0.174) of HDL cholesterol in the group of rats that were induced by alloxan and given Moringa leaf extract (x = 29.25 mg/dL) compared to the group of rats that were induced by alloxan without being given Moringa leaf extract (x = 26, 88 mg/gL).Conclusion : this study showed that alloxan significantly reduced serum HDL cholesterol levels and the administration of Moringa leaf extract tended to increase serum HDL cholesterol levels in white rats induced by alloxan because flavonoids and phenols in Moringa leaves acted as antioxidants, but the increase was not statistically significant.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background : Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease caused by high levels of blood glucose. Hyperglycemia will cause the formation of free radicals which can damage cells. To reduce this effect, antioxidants are needed. Aloksan is a chemical that can damage beta cells, resulting in decreased insulin production. Ketapang (Terminalia catappa) is a plant that can be used because of its antioxidant content. The administration of ketapang extract is thought to reduce levels of malondialdehyde. Malondialdehyde is a biomarker for the occurrence of lipid peroxidation in the body caused by an increase in free radicals due to the occurrence of oxidative stress. Metode : 32 male rats divided into 4 groups. Three groups will be given high-fat diet for 7 days followed by induced alloxan at a dose of 90 mg / kgBW to increase blood glucose levels and pancreatic malondialdehyde levels. Then 2 groups will be given treatment for 14 days. The first treatment group was given Ketapang extract with a dose of 600 mg / kgBW and the second treatment group which was given glibenclamide using a dose of 0.09 mg / kgBW. Results: administration of ketapang leaf and fruit extract reduced the levels of molondialdehyde in Wistar rats given a high fat diet and induced by alloxan, but did not significant (p = 0.916). There was a significant reduction in malondialdehyde in Wistar rats given glibenclamide (p = 0.016). Conclusions: the administration of ketapang leaf and fruit extract were able to reduce the levels of pancreatic malondialdehyde given a high-fat diet and induced by alloxan.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Obese people can experience dyslipidemia which is a disorder of lipid metabolism characterized by an increase or decrease in lipid fraction in the plasma. This condition if left unchecked can lead to atherosclerotic plaques which later lead to coronary heart disease. Control of dyslipidemia can be done by consuming foods that contain antioxidants. Method: Using 24 male Wistar rats, divided into 3 groups. The first group of rats fed with standard food, the second group of rats was given fat diet orally, and the third group of rats was given kepok banana skin extract and fat diet orally. At the end of experiment all animals were sacrificed and LDL levels were measured on the 30th day. Result: There was also signifficant difference (p = 0,011) of LDL levels between group of rats fed with high dose fat diet and group of rats fed with high dose fat diet and kepok banana skin extract. Conclussion: kepok banana skin extract decreased significantly the LDL levels because its flavonoid, saponin, and tanin which act as anti oxidant.
