Abstract

For years, cases related to intolerence of races, religions, and ethnicities have been used for political weapons in Indonesia. This cases has affected children's point of view and behaviour on diversity around them. In order to help not only children, but also parents and educators to be aware of it, I created a 70 minute play for children that discusses how children tolerate differences. I use Indonesia's folktales characters as my characters, and also use Indonesia as the setting. The first main character of the story, Nawang Wulan, struggles on how she tries to be accepted by her new friends who are different from her. While the other main character, Bawang Merah, insisting on excludes Nawang Wulan from her groups because she feels insecure of Nawang Wulan's differences. At the end of the story, Nawang Wulan finally learns that she has to accept her friends' differences first to be accepted. While Bawang Merah finally learns that even though Nawang Wulan is different, her differences are not a threat for her. I use theory of Diversity and Differences in childhood stageand also the theory of inferiority to justify my characters' behavior towards the conflicts. Through this creative work, I want to raise an awareness that diversity is inevitable, even around children. Therefore, it is better for them to learn how to tolerate it so they can accept it rather than misused it.

PT. Goldfindo Intikayu Pratama is a company which manufactures many kinds of furniture of good quality such as beds, tables, chairs, wardrobes, and etc. The company mainly sells its products to distributors of furniture products in the USA. The problem that the company is facing is that its sales have been decreasing lately. This is due to some reasons, one of which is the promotion tool that the company uses. So far, the company has been using its company profile to promote its products. The problem is that the company profile is neither up to date nor interesting in terms of content and design. Some of the information is also irrelevant to the customers. For these reasons, the company needs to modify or change its company profile. The company needs to have a company profile that is much more impressive and interesting so that its potential customers will be interested and buy the company’s products. To realize this, the pictures of the furniture products displayed in the new company profile should be those which the company is currently producing, and which are in trend today or more demanded by most potential customers. In addition, the sentences in the new company profile are supposed to be communicative, simple, and impressive. With the new company profile, it is expected that more customers will be interested and buy the products of PT. Goldfindo Intikayu Pratama. Abstract

This thesis aims to know why the main characters of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 do excessive consumption on toys. Therefore, I will use the theory of consumer behavior to be applied on Andy, Sid, and Al as the consumers of toys. From this theory, I want to show that consumer behavior can be seen from internal and external traits. The internal trait means the consumer behavior is influenced by the inner side of consumers. On the other hand, the external trait means the consumer behavior is triggered by the outside factor of consumers’ surroundings. I connected the analysis with consumer behavior theory by discussing the factors which have internal and external traits that cause the main characters to have consumer behavior.  In the end, it can be concluded from Toy Story (1995), and Toy Story 2 (1999) that consumer behavior can influence children or adult for doing excessive consumption as the consumers of toys. Keywords: Affective System, Cognitive System, Characteristic, Consumer Behavior, Consumption.

In the end, it can be concluded that Mia is a psychopathic person who can be categorized as an intermediate psychopath, and her suicidal act is affected by her past traumatic experience and her impulsivity.

Abstract

Many people with mental illness face the double challenges. Not only do they struggle with the symptoms of their illness, they also struggle with the stigma that the society has towards their illness. Through this creative project, I would like to discuss how stigma towards mental illness affects those who suffer from it negatively, and how letting go of stigma benefits those who are mentally ill and those who are not. I use Erving Goffman’s theory on social stigma, and another theory regarding self-stigma by Patrick W. Corrigan and Deepa Rao. These theories helped me understand how a stigma can be internalized by people with mental illness, and how it further worsens their symptoms. Moreover, the theories helped me create my story and my characters as realistically as possible and suggest a plausible solution for the problem through my story. My project is in the form of a romance drama short film screenplay. It tells the story of Jae-in Kim, a counselor in a suicide hotline, who is falling for a guy named Jon-young Park. They have been talking on Facebook for months, and when they are about to meet for the first time, she suddenly finds some similarities between him and a depressed guy who often makes suicidal calls to the hotline. It makes her reluctant to build a deeper relationship with him, which becomes a barrier for their relationship, and also challenges her perceptions towards people with mental illness. At the end, when she finally lets go of her stigma, their relationship gets better, and she becomes more inspired to help the mentally ill through her job.

Abstract

This creative project is a novel that tells a story about a teenage boy, Adriel, who tries to live of his life on a number of depressing accounts that is happening throughout his life. His father, Julius, has changed Adriel for the worse due to his subconscious abusive actions because he contracts depression himself. Adriel’s depression is going to accumulate based on the inferiority complex, excessive guilt, and other instances he experience along the way. Adriel then meets a girl named Olivia. Olivia is a cheerful, seemingly smart girl on the outside, but Adriel realizes that she is just the same as he is. My purpose of writing this novel are to raise the ever-growing prevalent issue on suicidal depression in our society; to understand why and how someone might feel depressed; and, for people to know the underlying symptoms, so they are not letting it go unnoticed.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss Nina Sayers’ rites of passage which are portrayed through the use of many kinds of symbols. Each stage of rites of passage is represented by symbols. Thus, I will use the theory of rites of passage to match the symbols with characteristics of each stage and the concept of symbols to analyze the symbols so that the meanings are appropriate to the contexts and able to show the ways Nina Sayers’ rites of passage are symbolized. The analysis shows that each stage of the rites of passage is symbolized by many forms of symbols. It also shows that symbols of rites of passage can actually hold more than one meaning as they can change meanings in each stage of rites of passage. In the end, it can be concluded that symbols in Black Swan have been effectively used to strongly reveal the rites of passage.

Abstract

This thesis examines the interpretations of Harry Potter’s and Voldemort’s wands which are related to the relationship between the wand and the owner. I am curious about finding the symbols behind the wands of Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. The symbols that I use as the theory, reveal the power and the way they see the power through their wands. Therefore, the interpretations also reveal their relationships toward their wands. I interpret that both Harry’s and Voldemort’s wands disclose the personalities that they have. The relationship between the wands and the owner determines the success of each wizard to accomplish their goals. The affectionate relationship between Harry and his wand give mutual benefits for each of them. In contrast to Harry, Voldemort’s wand turns out to be a destructive weapon since there is no emotional attachment between him and his wand.

Abstract

Samaya Coffee Shop is a coffee shop in Solo City. Based on the research that I did, I found that Samaya still lacks of brand awareness, because only a few people know about Samaya. Therefore, the best solution to increase Samaya’s brand awareness is by creating a promotional video with USP (Unique Selling Points). There are several Samaya USPs that I highlight in the video such as the unique menu, private meeting room, and board games. The video is uploaded to Instagram and also to paid promotion accounts in Solo city, so the video could be watched by more target audience. A promotional video is the right effective solution is because video is one of the tools that is often watched by the target market when they seek out and discover the product they want to buy.
