Abstract

The undertaking of the exploration was substantially grounded on the primary study. The result of pre-test showed that utmost of the scholars in VIII-4 class of SMPN 6 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023 faced problem in writing skill. The students had problems in constructing unified and coherent writing descriptive paragraph. The subjects consisted of 41 students: 20 males and 21 females. The object was to know whether or not the writing skill of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 6 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023 can be improved trough Roundtable combined with picture. The design was a classroom behavioral study. This was done in two cycles, each cycle consisting of two sessions. Data showed that there were significant improvement on subject's average score from pre- and post-tests. The average pretest score was 45.39, post-test I was 74.39, and posttest II was 83.73. As supporting data, the questionnaire was also administered at the end of the last cycle and the results were displayed more than 93% of the subjects positively agreed on implementing Roundtable combined with picture in improving writing skill. Based on the data, the implementation of Roundtable combined with picture can make the subject more creative and be brave in expressing their idea into a good paragraph. Based on the findings, it could be concluded that the writing ability of the eighth-grade students at SMPN 6 Denpasar in the 2022/2023 school can be improved trough a Roundtable combined with picture.

Abstract

This correlational research aims at finding out the correlation between habit of reading and writing ability of tenth grade students when learning narrative text. Some tenth grade students of SMAK Harapan Denpasar was taken as samples (60 students from two classes). In collecting the data, the researcher used five Likert scales questionnaire and writing narrative text test. The data collected in this research were analyzed by Pearson product moment and t - testing using SPSS version 25 for Windows. According to the result of the analysis and statistical calculation, it is found that r was 0.480. It also shows that the correlation between students reading habit and their ability of writing narrative text of tenth grade lies between 0.401-0.600 which is medium level. Moreover, the data shows significant correlation between both variables (t was 36.097). From the result, it can be concluded that there is significant correlation between reading habit and writing ability. Furthermore, the students and teachers should pay attention to the result of this reseach to increase the writing ability by increasing the reading habit of the students. It can be done by choosing various interesting and uptodate materials and strategies.

Abstract

Reading is faced as a difficult activity to do. The preliminary study presented that the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 kediri in the academic year 2022/2023 are difficult to identify general information, specific information, textual meaning, and textual reference. Looking at the prior condition, this research aims at knowing the students’ improvement after being treated with read-ask-put (rap) strategy. Therefore, classroom action research was considered to be undergone in two cycles. The instruments were tests and a questionnaire. The data was analyzed by looking at the result of the tests: pre-test and post-tests. The results showed that there occurred improvement from the mean score of the pre-test to the post-tests. It is in line with the result of the questionnaire which showed positive responses. Further rap strategy implementation is needed to be integrated with other language skills.

Abstract

Reading a book is like letting the world in. Good reading comprehension can help students, in particular, expand their thinking and creativity, which will improve their learning outcomes. Preliminary research indicates that the majority of class VIII D students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Denpasar for the 2022–2023 academic year struggle with reading comprehension. It was challenging for them to comprehend word meanings, identify phrase meanings, recognize specific information, and so on. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to determine whether the Numbered Heads Together method can enhance the reading comprehension of class VIII students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Denpasar. The researcher carried out classroom action research to meet these objectives. To gather the necessary data, research tools in the form of exams and questionnaires were made available. The data were then examined by comparing the pre-test and post-test findings, which revealed a considerable improvement in the respondents' average score from the pre-test to the post-test. According to the data, the participants' average pre-test score was 50.83, their post-test I score was 66, and their post-test II score was 74.83. As additional evidence, a survey was administered at the conclusion of the previous cycle, and the findings revealed that the Numbered Heads Together technique had been successfully applied. Based on the study's findings, it can be said that using the Numbered Heads Together method will help class VIII students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Denpasar read more fluently throughout the 2022–2023 academic year.

Abstract

The study aims to find out whether or not Think Pair Share can improve the writing skills of 10th graders of SMA Negeri 1 Manggis in school year 2022/2023. The subject of this study were the tenth grade students of the SMA Negeri 1 Manggis. Class X H students chose the subject, which consists of 31 students. The research used the classroom action research type. The research was carried out by Think Pair Share with image and divided into several cycles, each consisting of two cycles. In this study, two kinds of data were obtained from the result of the pre-test, the post-test and the questionnaire. The mean score result showed an improvement over the pre-test from 48.77 to 70.09 in post-test I and 83.09 in post-test II. The investigators administered the questionnaire at the end of Cycle II. The percentage showed that the opinions of the questionnaire 66.83% strongly agree. These results supported the main findings of the study. In addition, it was found that subjects gave good responses to the implementation of Think Pair Share with Picture to improve writing skills.

Abstract

This classroom action research's goal was to determine whether brainstorming and flashcards could enhance the ninth-grade students’ writing abilities at SMP Negeri Hindu 2 Sukawati. A group problem-solving method called brainstorming involves the impromptu sharing of original ideas and solutions. A tool that is utilized to support the application of the brainstorming technique is the flashcard. In particular, the IX B class at SMP Negeri Hindu 2 Sukawati in the academic year 2022/2023 was the focus of the discussion. There were 40 subjects in total, with 16 female and 24 male participants. Planning, action, observation, and reflection were the four processes for each of the two cycles that this research was conducted in. The pre-test, post-test 1, post-test 2, and questionnaire data were analyzed quantitatively and quantitatively. The outcome demonstrated that brainstorming and flashcards together can help the ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri Hindu 2 Sukawati in the academic year 2022/2023 to improve their writing skills.

Abstract

This ex-post facto research aims at figuring out the correlation between simple present tense mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 3 Gianyar in the academic year 2022/2023. The samples of this research were 80 students from 495 populations of the eighth-grade students at SMPN 3 Gianyar in the academic year 2022/2023, chosen by clustered random sampling technique. The data were collected by administering two research instruments in the form of a sentence writing test and paragraph construction test. Pearson product-moment correlation and t-test by SPSS 25 Version for Windows was used to correlate both simple present tense mastery (variable X) and descriptive paragraph writing ability (variable Y). The data analysis results showed that there was a correlation at (0.630) which is higher than the r-table of significant level at 5% (0.220). To sum up, the present research findings finally confirmed that there was a significant correlation between simple present tense mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 3 Gianyar in the academic year 2022/2023.

Abstract

This study was done based on the result of the observation and pre-test which showed that most of the students in SMP Negeri 3 Sukawati faced problem in reading comprehension. The students had difficulty in identifying general information, specific information, textual meaning and textual reference of the text. The researcher engaged 38 students in two cycles of classroom action research. The pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire were the research tools. By comparing the outcomes of the pre-test and post-test, the data were examined. The outcome revealed that the subjects' reading comprehension scores were rising. A questionnaire that was sent out at the conclusion of the previous cycle as further evidence revealed favorable answers to the application of the think-pair-share technique with an image. Pre-test scores were 52.10, post-test scores were 65.07, and post-test scores were 80.07. It is possible to draw the conclusion that the think-pair-share method can enhance the reading comprehension of SMP Negeri 3 Sukawati eighth graders in the academic year 2022/2023. This study provided empirical evidences of how think pair share with authentic pictures could be used in teaching reading comprehension.

Abstract

Reading is important for us especially for students when they want to explore their knowledge. In fact, most students of IX H at SMP N 2 Kuta in the academic year 2022/2023 faced problems in reading comprehension. The total of the subjects were 32 students. The purpose of this study was to know whether or not reading comprehension could be improved through Brainstorming. Therefore, the researcher conducted classroom action research, which was done in two cycles. The researcher administered research instruments, pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire to collect the data. Based on the research, the results of this study were there was an improvement in the subjects’ reading comprehension. The results showed pre-cycle (56.10), post-test I in cycle I (72.99), and post-test II in cycle II (83.35). at the end of the cycle, the researcher administered a questionnaire to support the data. The results of this study were the reading comprehension of ninth-grade students of SMP N 2 Kuta in the academic year 2022/2023 could be improved through Brainstorming.

Abstract

In the academic year 2021–2022, this study seeks to enhance the speaking abilities VIII class students of SMP Negeri 2 Mengwi, particularly in presenting daily activities utilizing the talking chips method. In order to get preliminary data about students' speaking abilities, this study began by interviewing English teachers. Prior to the pre-test, the first step was taken to assess the level of the students' speaking abilities, which was found to be low. To help children develop their speaking abilities, the talking chips method was adopted. This study had two cycles, each of which had a pre-test. The average score on the first cycle pre-test was 47.66, which suggested that the students' speaking abilities were not very advanced. However, the score increased to 66.67 in the second cycle pre-test after the talking chips approach was used in the first cycle. Even so, some kids continue to have trouble with their speaking abilities. To confirm that pupils' speaking abilities were improving, a second cycle was conducted. The average score on the second cycle post-test was 78.09, which was a considerable improvement in the students' speaking abilities. The researchers also employed a questionnaire as a research tool to collect extra data. The findings of the survey revealed that students' reactions were favorable following instruction in the talking-chips method. According to the findings of this study, class VIII students at SMP Negeri 2 Mengwi can effectively improve their speaking abilities by using the talking chips technique in the academic year 2021–2022.
