Abstract

The aims of this present study were to find the correlation between vocabulary mastery andspeaking skill of the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Kerambitan in academic year2020/2021. The samples were selected by applying cluster sampling methods by lottery systemso that there were two classes with total students is 66. In order to obtain the data, researchersused two tests; cloze task for measuring vocabulary mastery and picture description formeasuring speaking skill. Furthermore, data collected were analysed by mean of Normalitytest, Homogeneity test, Pearson product moment and T-testing. The data were analysed byusing SPSS version 23. The data analysis showed that there was a significant correlationbetween vocabulary mastery and speaking skill of the seventh grade students of SMPN 1Kerambitan in academic year 2020/2021.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a crucial skill needs to be developed because the readers needto comprehend their readings in order to obtain the useful information. This study was aimedto find out whether or not the subjects’ reading comprehension can be improved throughKWL strategy combined with picture. The subjects were the eighth grade students of SMP N2 Tampaksiring in academic year 2020/2021. Based on the result of pre-test, it was foundthat many students had problems in identifying general and specific information, textualmeaning and textual reference. Therefore, the KWL strategy combined with picture wascarried out which divided into two cycles. The data were gathered by administering post-test1 and post-test 2 in the end of each cycle. The mean scores of pre-test, post test 1, and posttest2 were respectively, 52.03, 66.17, and 76.17. The result of the post-tests showed thesignificant improvements toward subjects’ reading comprehension. Moreover, the result ofquestionnaire showed that the subjects positively responded toward the use of KWL Strategycombined with picture. In conclusion, this study proved that reading comprehension of theeighth grade students of SMP N 2 Tampaksiring in academic year 2020/2021 could beimproved by using KWL Strategy combined with picture.

Abstract

Writing is one of the language skills that should be learnt by the students beside otherlanguage skills. Its purpose is to communicate the language in written form. Regarding theimportant of writing, in fact, writing still becomes which was conducted to the tenth gradestudents of SMK Dwijendra Denpasar in academic year 2019/2020 needed to be improvedthrough think pair share and cue card. The present study was conducted in two cycles. The datawere gathered by administering pre-test and post-test. The results of the post-tests in each cycleobviously showed that there were significant improvements concerning the subject’ ability inwriting skill. Furthermore, the additional findings showed that most of the subjects gave positiveresponses toward the implementation of think pair share and cue card in improving their writingability. In conclusion, the present classroom action research proved that the writing skill of thetenth grade student of SMK Dwijendra Denpasar in academic year 2019/2020 can be improvedthrough think pair share and cue card.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the significant correlation between extrovertand introvert personality toward speaking ability of the eighth grade students in SMPN 7Mengwi. In conducting this research, the researcher has collected the data usingcorrelational research. The subjects of this research were 58 students of the eighth grade inSMPN 7 Mengwi in academic year 2020/2021. In collecting the data, the researcher used twoinstruments which were questionnaire for extrovert-introvert students, and speaking test forspeaking ability. The result showed the student with extrovert personality will get better scorein speaking ability meanwhile the students with introvert personality will get lower score inspeaking ability. Furthermore, the research instruments were made in order to collect thedata needed. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 25.0 that consist of Normality Test,Homogeneity Test, Pearson Product Moment, and T-Test. The alternative hypothesis wasaccepted. According to the result of Pearson Product Moment, it was found that was 0.649between extrovert personality and speaking ability, meanwhile 0.626 between introvertpersonality and speaking ability. It shows that there is correlation between extrovert andintrovert personality in students’ speaking ability.

Abstract

Reading is crucial to be mastered by the students. However, reading has become the majorproblem faced by most of the students especially the ninth-grade students of SMPN 1 Selat inthe academic year 2020/2021. The present study was intended to answer the research problemas follow: Can story grammar strategy improve students reading comprehension achievement?This research was designed as a classroom action research. The subjects were IX A class ofSMP N 1 Selat which consisted of 29 students. Based on the result of preliminary observationand pre-test, it showed that the students still have low reading comprehension skill. In anattempt to solve this, story grammar strategy was implemented in two cycles. The result ofposttest at the end of each cycle clearly proved significant improvement of students’ readingcomprehension. Furthermore, this research also indicated positive responses from the subjectsregarding the implementation of story grammar strategy in improving subjects’ readingcomprehension skill. In conclusion, the present classroom action research proved that readingskill of the ninth-grade students of SMPN 1 Selat in the academic year 2020/2021 can beimproved through story grammar strategy.

Abstract

Amongst four English skills, writing becomes pivotal, and students must be capable in thisskill. Writing is a communication form where the writer delivers and arrange ideas into areadable form for a specific purpose. The present research was mainly based on thepreliminary observation towards 32 subjects in the X BDPM 1 class at SMKN 2 Denpasar inacademic year 2020/2021. The results showed that most of the subjects’ writing skill was stilllow. Besides, the present research was aimed at investigating whether or not the writing skillof the tenth-grade students of SMKN 2 Denpasar can be improved through ESA combined withpicture. To achieve the objective, the researcher conducted classroom action research whichwas done in two cycles. Furthermore, the required data were obtained by administering theresearch instruments: tests and a questionnaire. The collected data were then analyzed bycomparing the pre-test and post-tests, which showed significant improvements in the subjects’mean scores from the pre-test to post-tests. Furthermore, the questionnaire results showed thatthe subjects’ positive responses toward the implementation of ESA combined with picture. Itcould be concluded that writing skill of the tenth-grade students of SMKN 2 Denpasar inacademic year 2020/2021 can be improved through ESA combined with picture.

Abstract

In conveying ideas, speaking skills are very important to be honed. That way we candeliver the message that we will create through speaking, and make it easier for people whoneed information to understand about the meaning. This study aims at finding out the correlationbetween students’ listening English songs habit with speaking achievement of the tenth grade studentsof SMK SMSR Ubud in academic year 2020/2021. In taking the research, simple random sampling wasapplied. The design was ex-post facto correlational research design. In collecting the data of thisresearch, the writer used two instruments which were listening English songs habit questionnaireconsisted of 30 items distributed through Google Form and monologue speaking test distributedthrough Google Zoom. The data was analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation in IBMSPSS Statistics. Acording to the result of the analysis and statistical calculation, it is found that r was0.957. It shows that there is significant correlation between listening English songs habit with speakingachievement of the tenth grade students of SMK SMSR Ubud in academic year 2020/2021. It liesbetween 0.800 – 1.00 which is in very high level.

Abstract

This correlation study is aimed to find out the correlation between reading motivation andreading achievement of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi in academic year2020/2021. The sample was chosen by cluster sampling as many as 64 students. Theinstrument used in this study was questionnaire and test; reading motivation questionnaireand reading achievement test. Reading motivation questionnaire is used to know the students’reading motivation while reading comprehension test is used to find out the students’ readingachievement in understanding a text. The obtained data were assessed by using ProductMoment’s formula and analyzed by using SPSS 23.0. Based on data analysis, it showed thatthere is high, significant and positive correlation between reading motivation and readingachievement of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi in academic year2020/2021. Therefore, it answered the research question that there is a fair correlationbetween reading motivation and reading achievement.

Abstract

The study aimed at figuring out students' reading comprehension after treating with KWLstrategy and pictures as the media. It was conducted to the seventh-grade students of SMPN 7Mengwi in the academic year 2020/2021 with Google Classroom and WhatsApp: it was setonline in two cycles. because of Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the pre-test, it seemed that theproblems are in finding general information, specific information, textual meaning, and textualreference. The data were obtained by giving pre-test and post-test in each cycle. The subjects'mean score in the pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2 were improving from 51.21 to 63.28 incycle I and 80.46 in cycle II. It showed improvements concerning on their readingcomprehension. Furthermore, there were positive responses on the implementation of thestrategy. Hence, this study proved that reading comprehension could be improved throughKWL strategy with pictures.

Abstract

This study dealt with the interrelationship of English le xicon mastery on paragraphcomposing skills of the eight-grade students of Private Junior high school 1 Kerambitan. Thestudy attempted to elaborate on the effect of lexicon comprehension on students' writingability. An ex-post-facto was applied as a research design. The population of the present studyconsisted of 512 students and 64 of them were chosen as the samples using the clustersampling technique. The type of test that was used to measure the word meaningcomprehension was the cloze task and the essay test to measure the student's writing ability indescribing people and things. The data were descriptively analyzed with an inferential statisticof SPSS 26. The descriptive statistics included normality test, homogeneity test, Pearsonproduct-moment, and t-testing. The findings revealed that the more lexicon the studentsunderstand, the more successfully they can describe people or things in the text. Thecoefficient correlation was 0.502, the scale of interpretation score was between 0,40-0,60, andthe score of t-table was -1,998. It means that t-counted was high than r-table (-2,562 >-1,998).Based on the result, the study proved that the students’ lexicon mastery could affect theirdescriptive writing significantly. The study suggests the teachers apply appropriate teachingstrategies for further writing in the daily use of context.
