Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 telah menghancurkan segala bentuk usaha di Bali terutama sektor ekonomi dan pariwisata. Keadaan ini memaksa para pedagang mencari terobasan baru untuk memasarkan produk mereka. Busana Bali yang dicintai oleh banyak orang, bukan saja oleh orang Bali tetapi juga orang dari luar Bali termasuk wisatawan. Oleh karena itu, program ini dilaksanakan guna membantu mengembangkan pembuatan media pemasaran online bagi pedagang busana Bali di Kabupaten Karangasem agar penjualan busana Bali semakin berkembang untuk memabantu industri busana yang ada dan untuk meningkatkan perekonomian masyarakat. Program ini bertujuan untuk membangun media pemasaran online berbasis sosial media sehingga pembeli lebih mudah memperoleh busana yang mereka inginkan tanpa kontek fisik secara langsung. Disamping itu, program ini juga memberikan pelatihan pengoperasian media social untuk pemasaran secara berkesinambungan sehingga para penjual busana Bali mampu mengikuti perkembangan pasar. Dengan adanya media pemasaran ini, penjulan busana Bali semakin meningkat dan dapat bersaing di pasar global.

Abstract

The present study explored the implementation of Language classroom assessment and feedback within the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. This research was conducted using a qualitative research design, and the obtained data were analyzed descriptively. Data were collected by conducting direct classroom observation using observation checklists and in-depth interviews with the three professional English instructors using an observation guide. The data were transcribed and coded according to their categories. The findings of the study indicated that the students learning progress were assessed through a short question-answer and completion test. Verbal feedback was merely provided by the teachers, and feedback was given only occasionally. The teacher hardly provided any follow-up action in order to modify their way of teaching. Consequently, there was a slow, gradual improvement of the students' learning achievement. Therefore, teachers were recommended to utilize various classroom language assessments to assess the students' learning. The teachers should provide both verbal and written feedback for their students to enhance their achievement continually.

Abstract

This research was conducted at SMK in Bali which aims to develop a model of communicative English test for SMK Tourism in Bali by involving students of English Education Study Program as the final project of language tesing. This research is conducted for two years using Research and Development method so that the developed product can be believed to be correct and accurate. The research was conducted because the crucial important problem faced by SMK Tourism teachers in assessing the ability of communicative English students so that teachers and students know their true ability in English communication in order to improve the quality of learning so that students will be ready to work in various tourism industries. In the first year, research was focused on establishing a communicative English test model based on analyzing an English test that already exists at SMK Tourism in Bali and then designing a model of Communicative English test for vocational students in Bali.

Abstract

Teaching strategies are techniques used by teachers to help students become independent in learning and active strategic learners. Teaching strategies become learning strategies when students independently choose suitable ones and practice them effectively to achieve tasks or meet their learning goals. This study aims to examine the learning strategies applied by language teachers in language learning practices in the classroom to optimize students’ language skill acquisition. Data collection methods used are observation, interview, and documentation. The data analysis technique is descriptive qualitative analysis, namely data reduction, presentation, and concluding. The results showed that there are several favorable teaching strategies employed by language teachers to improve students' language skills. This research has implications for educational institutions to continually improve teachers’ skills to implement effective and innovative learning strategies.

Abstract

The covid-19 outbreak has widely changed the way of life for many people due to the limitation of crowd social contact. Young workers have to think harder to find employment meanwhile many industries including the tourism industry were closed. Farming suddenly becomes an attraction for young people to explore their opportunities for survival and fulfill their need for food. This phenomenon brightens the future of farming because young farmers certainly have more capability in developing the farming industry by utilizing modern applicable technology and develop farming products to supply the needs of the global market. This study explored the young farmers’ acquisition of organic farming since this farming becomes a new trend that has many befits for the future of farming and the health of the land. The study revealed that young farmers' acquisition of organic farming terminologies was insufficient, therefore the study implies that the young farmers should continually develop their ability in organic farming.

Abstract

This collaborative research was aimed at exploring teaching strategies used in teaching writing by pre-service teachers who conducted practice teaching junior high schools in Denpasar. The research was done due to the problems faced by the teachers in teaching writing. Some innovative techniques were practiced by pre-service teachers to overcome the problems. The innovative techniques proposed were clustering technique, roundtable technique, think pair share, and mind mapping. It was believed that these techniques would be able to improve the students’ ability in writing. After the implementation of the teaching strategies, it was revealed that all techniques offered were able to foster the students’ ability in writing. Therefore, the study implies that innovative learning strategies should be implemented in every teaching activity, especially in teaching writing.

Abstract

The improvement of speaking skills is highly important to be intensified to continually develop students’ speaking skills. Speaking skills need special attention because a good speaking skill cannot be obtained automatically without appropriate learning activities and intensive practice. Language skills, especially speaking skills, can affect students' communication skills, therefore the efforts to improve students’ speaking skills become a priority in English language learning. This study was conducted on university students with the aim of developing their speaking skills through the WhatsApp group application. The study showed that the students’ speaking skills improved considerably high after the integration of WhatsApp group intro English language learning. Therefore, the study implies that the WhatsApp group can be utilized by the language teachers to improve their students speaking skills.

Abstract

Abstract: Developing students’ critical thinking skill is highly important nowadays to provide students’ skills in encountering various challenges in their life. Objectives: This study investigates the strategies employed by teachers during the teaching and learning processes to promote students’ critical skills. Methods: This study used a qualitative research approach conducted in a senior high school consisting of 50 teachers and 5 teachers were selected as the participants of this research. The data were collected by conducting semi-structured interviews and the data were analyzed descriptively. Findings: This study found several strategies employed by the teachers in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills. Conclusions: The Findings of this study provide implications to enrich the body of knowledge relevant to the theories concerning effective strategies to develop students’ critical thinking skills.Keywords: learning strategy, senior high school teachers, critical thinking skills.Abstrak: Pengembangan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa saat ini sangat penting untuk membekali siswa dalam menghadapi berbagai tantangan dalam hidupnya. Tujuan: Studi ini mengkaji strategi yang digunakan oleh guru selama proses belajar mengajar untuk meningkatkan keterampilan kritis siswa. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif yang dilakukan di sebuah sekolah menengah atas yang terdiri dari 50 guru dan 5 guru terpilih sebagai partisipan penelitian ini. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara semi terstruktur dan data dianalisis secara deskriptif. Temuan: Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa beberapa strategi digunakan oleh guru dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Abstract

Abstract: Brainstorming as an Effective Learning Strategy to Promote Students’ Critical Thinking Skills. Objectives: This study investigates the brainstorming strategy employed by teachers in the classroom to enhance students’ critical thinking skills. Methods: This study employed a qualitative research approach conducted in a senior high school consisting of 30 teachers and 4 teachers were selected as the research participants. The data were collected by conducting semi-structured interviews and classroom observations. The data were analyzed descriptively to establish valid and reliable findings. Findings: This study found that teachers intensively used the brainstorming method in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills by asking various challenging questions to arouse students’ critical skills. Conclusions: the Findings of this study revealed the importance of conducting brainstorming strategies during the learning activities. Moreover, this study implies teachers should utilize the brainstorming method more intensively to develop students’ critical thinking skills. Keywords: brainstorming, learning strategy, critical thinking skills. Abstrak: Brainstorming sebagai strategi pembelajaran efektif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis. Tujuan: Penelitian ini mengkaji strategi brainstorming yang digunakan oleh guru di kelas untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif yang dilakukan di sebuah sekolah menengah atas yang terdiri dari 30 guru dan 4 guru terpilih sebagai partisipan penelitian. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara semi terstruktur dan observasi kelas. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif untuk menetapkan temuan yang valid dan reliabel. Temuan: Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa guru secara intensif menggunakan metode brainstorming dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa dengan mengajukan berbagai pertanyaan yang menantang untuk meningkatkan keterampilan kritis siswa. Kesimpulan: Temuan penelitian ini mengungkap pentingnya melakukan metode brainstorming selama kegiatan pembelajaran. Selain itu, penelitian ini menyiratkan guru harus memanfaatkan metode brainstorming lebih intensif untuk mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Abstract

The study aims at figuring out whether there is or not the correlation between motivation andspeaking ability of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi in the academic year 2020/2021.The present study used ex-post facto research with correlation design. In this research, there were 36students taken from the eighth grade class of SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi. In collecting the data, theresearcher used a questionnaire that was on the types of motivation by Ryan & Deci (2000). Besides,the researcher used a speaking test by administering the descriptive monologue. The result showed thatthe students’ total score for motivation resulted in 2637, and the speaking ability was 2985. Those datawere analyzed by using SPSS 23.0, which is consisted of the Normality test, Homogeneity test, PearsonProduct Moment, and T-testing. For the result of this research, the hypothesis was significantlyaccepted. According to Pearson Product Moment’s result, the r-value was 0.366, and the significancevalue was 0.014. It shows a significant correlation between motivation and speaking ability of theeighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi in the academic year 2020/2021. It lies between 0.200– 0.400, which is at a low level.
