Abstract

The study aims at figuring out whether there is or not the correlation between motivation andspeaking ability of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi in the academic year 2020/2021.The present study used ex-post facto research with correlation design. In this research, there were 36students taken from the eighth grade class of SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi. In collecting the data, theresearcher used a questionnaire that was on the types of motivation by Ryan & Deci (2000). Besides,the researcher used a speaking test by administering the descriptive monologue. The result showed thatthe students’ total score for motivation resulted in 2637, and the speaking ability was 2985. Those datawere analyzed by using SPSS 23.0, which is consisted of the Normality test, Homogeneity test, PearsonProduct Moment, and T-testing. For the result of this research, the hypothesis was significantlyaccepted. According to Pearson Product Moment’s result, the r-value was 0.366, and the significancevalue was 0.014. It shows a significant correlation between motivation and speaking ability of theeighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi in the academic year 2020/2021. It lies between 0.200– 0.400, which is at a low level.

Abstract

This research was intended to know if there was any positive corralation between themastery of past tense and the ability of writing recount text of the twelfth grade students ofSMAN 1 Gianyar in academic year 2020-2021. There were in all 75 students taken as thesamples of the research using random sampling with lotery system. In the researchinstruments the samples were asked to write sentences in recount text and textconstruction test. The data obtained were statistically analysed using presequisit analysis(normality and homogeneity test) and Person Product moment correlational and t-test. It isrevealed that the alternative hypothesis is vividly accepted. It means that there wassignificant correlation between the mastery of past tense and the ability of writing recounttext of the twelfth grade students of SMAN 1 Ganyar in 2020-2021 academic year.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out the significant correlation between students’ habit of watching English movies and vocabulary mastery of the tenth-grade of SMAN 1 Kuta Selatan in academic year 2020/2021. The sample of this research were 38 students of SMAN 1 Kuta Selatan. For collecting the data, there were two instruments used which were a questionnaire to find out the students’ habit of watching English movies and the multiple-choice test item for vocabulary mastery. The questionnaire used included aspects such as frequency, repetition, and automatic behaviour of habit of watching English movies, while the multiple-choice test item consisted of noun, verb, pronoun, and adjective. The SPSS 23.0 program was used to analyse the data. The result of Pearson Product Moment showed that the r-counted was 0.707. It lied between 0.600-0.800 which was in a sufficient level. It showed that there was a positive and significant correlation between students’ habit of watching English movies and vocabulary mastery of the tenth-grade of SMAN 1 Kuta Selatan in academic year 2020/2021.

Abstract

The present study which made use of an ex-post facto research with correlation design was intended to figure out the significant between Vocabulary Mastery and Writing Ability of The Eighth-grade Students of SMP N 2 Ubud in Academic Year 2020/2021. The samples of the research consisted of 38 students which were chosen by means of cluster sampling method with lottery system. The data were collected through administering the research instruments which were in the form of structured cloze task and picture description. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pearson product moment correlation and t-test. The results of the data analysis clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is significant correlation between Vocabulary Mastery and Writing Ability of the Eighth-grade Students of SMP N 2 Ubud in Academic Year 2020/2021.

Abstract

The present study aimed at figuring out whether writing skill of the tenth-grade students of SMKN 1 Susut can be improved through the implementation of tell-show combined with picture. Tell-show was a teaching technique of writing in this study in which the subjects used writing columns during the online learning. The research was primarily based on the preliminary study of 26 tenth-grade students of SMKN 1 Susut in academic year 2020/2021. The research design was classroom action research, and the research was carried out through applying tell-show combined with picture within two cycles. Furthermore, the obtained data were collected by administering tests (pre-test and post-tests) and a questionnaire. The results showed that there was a significant improvement of the subjects’ descriptive text writing ability. The questionnaire also proved that the subjects’ responses toward the implementation of tell-show combined with picture were positive during the online class. In short, the present study clearly showed that writing skill of the tenth-grade students of SMKN 1 Susut in academic year 2020/2021 can be improved through tell-show combined with picture.

Abstract

Most students learning English have difficulty identifying general information, specific information, and text meanings and references due to a lack of vocabulary. Therefore, an appropriate and effective teaching strategy should allow students to improve their reading comprehension. The present study attempts to find out the reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of the SMP Negeri 3 Ubud in the school year 2020/2021 could be improved by the KWL strategy in combination with the image. This research used a classroom action design by conducting two cycles and each cycle consisted of two sessions. The research conducted pre-test, post-test, and questionnaires to collect the data before analyzing it. The results of the research showed that there was a significant improvement in the subjects' performance in the pre-and post-test. From the questionnaire conducted in the last cycle, the students received a positive response regarding their changing learning behavior in relation to the application of the KWL strategy. Based on the findings of the study, the students' reading comprehension can be improved by using the KWL strategy in combination with an image.

Abstract

This study was designed in the form of ex-post facto research. It was aimed at finding out the correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 2 Kuta Utara in academic year 2020/2021”. There were 68 seventh-grade students of SMPN 2 Kuta Utara in academic year 2020/2021 which was regarded as the samples under study. They were taken by using cluster random sampling technique with lottery system. Besides, the present study was conducted with two instruments those were short answer tasks that was used to assess reading comprehension and cloze tasks for vocabulary mastery test. Moreover, to find out the correlation between two variables, the obtained data were analysed by using Product Moment’s formula and analysed by using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) 19. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a significant, and positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the seventh-grade students of SMP N 2 Kuta Utara in academic year 2020/2021.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to define the relationship between students' reading habits and their narrative writing abilities. The population of this study were students of class X SMA 1 Rendang. A product moment correlation method is applied in this study. There are two instruments for collecting data; namely the instrument to measure students' reading habits, in this case was a questionnaire, and the instrument to measure students' ability to write narrative, which is a text construction test. The result shows that there is a significant relationship between students' reading habits and the ability to write narrative text in class X SMA 1 Rendang. Therefore, it can be concluded that the more students read, the better their narrative writing skills.

Abstract

Writing is a difficult language skill since the students should pay attention to the writing’s aspects and need to express their own ideas. The tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Kintamani found some difficulties in writing in which they were hard in generating their ideas, how to begin their text, and how to construct a well-structured text. The objective of the present classroom action research was to figure out whether or not writing skill of tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Kintamani in academic year 2020/2021 can be improved through ESA combined with picture. The undertaking of this research was based on the preliminary study. The pre-test was carried out, and it showed the subjects’ writing skill was low. Therefore, the present study was conducted by implementing ESA combined with picture in two cycles. The result of post-test in each cycle showed that there were significant improvements on the subjects’ writing skill after the application of ESA combined with picture. Furthermore, the questionnaire proved that the subjects’ responses towards the application of ESA combined with picture were positive during the teaching and learning process. In conclusion, the study showed that writing skill of the tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Kintamani in academic year 2020/2021 can be improved through ESA combined with picture.
