Abstract

This study aims to find out the significant correlation between anxiety and reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students in SMPN 2 Mengwi academic year 2020/2021. The research used ex-post facto in form of correlational study. The population of the present study consisted of 337 students and 31 of them were chosen as the samples. They were determined by means of cluster random sampling technique with lottery system. Questionnaire for students’ anxiety and multiple choice test for the students reading comprehension were used as the instruments. The researchers analysed the data through normality test, homogeneity test, Pearson product moment, and t-testing. The result showed the Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.044 and it is lower than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05). The directional hypothesis in the present study indicated that there is a significant correlation between students’ anxiety and reading comprehension was accepted. It could be concluded that the data had already proven that students’ anxiety was significantly correlated with reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research used ex-post facto research with correlational design, which was aimed to figure out whether there is a significant correlation between motivation and reading comprehension of the ninth-grade students of SMPN 2 Mengwi in the academic year 2020/2021. The sample of this study was 60 students taken from the ninth-grade students of SMPN 2 Mengwi that were chosen by random sampling method with a lottery system. The data were collected through administering the researchinstruments which were in the form of a structured questionnaire and narrative text in the form of short answer text. In analyzingthe data, the questionnaires were assessed by Likert’s scale rating, and short answer text was measured by using a scoring rubricadopted from Brown 2004. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS 22 with means of Pearson Product Moment Correlation Test and T-test. The result of the data showed that the significant value of Pearson product-moment correlation was 0.000 and there was clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research finding confirmed that there was a significant correlation between motivation and reading comprehension of the ninth-grade students of SMPN 2 Mengwiin the academic year 2020/2021.

Abstract

This classroom action research is conducted to 32 subjects aims at figuring the improvement of speaking skill of the tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Gianyar through implementing talking chips combined with picture. Talking chips is a technique of teaching speaking in this present study which have two elements such: Talk and Chips. The research was carried out through implementing talking chips combined with picture in two cycles and the obtained data was analyzed quantitatively from pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2; then quantitatively from questionnaire. The result showed that there was a significant improvement in the subjects’ skill in speaking descriptive monologue. Moreover, the questionnaire proved that the subjects agreed toward the implementation of talking chips combined with picture during the teaching learning process. Based on the result of the investigation, it can be concluded that the speaking skill of the tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Gianyar in academic year 2020/2021 can be improved through talking chips combined with picture.

Abstract

This correlational study aims to find out the correlation between reading speed and students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh-grade students of SMK PGRI 3 Badung in academic year 2020/2021. There are two research instruments, they are reading speed test and reading comprehension test. The samples were 10% from the population in eleventh grade students which consist of 38 students. The obtained data was analyzed through pre-requisite and hypothesis analysis. The result of hypothesis testing of this research were r- value is higher than r- table = 0.806 > 0.413. Then, the result showed if the correlation between reading speed and students’ reading comprehension was significant. It means that alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) rejected. Considering the explanation before, it could be concluded that there is a significant correlation between reading speed and students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of SMK PGRI 3 Badung in academic year 2020/2021.

Abstract

The study aims to find out the reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP Dharma Praja Denpasar after being treated with KWL strategy with picture. This research made use a Classroom Action Research which took two cycles: two sessions for each cycle. Pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire were administered for the data collection. The findings revealed that there was a significant improvement of the students' achievement. It was respectively improving from the pre-test 65.33 and post-test 78.23. From the questionnaire that was administered in the last cycle, the students gained positive response in terms of their changing learning behavior towards the application of KWL strategy. Based on the findings, the reading comprehension of the subjects can be improved through KWL strategy with picture.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out the correlation between vocabulary mastery and student speaking ability of SMK Saraswati 1 Denpasar in academic year 2020/2021. The present study used an ex post facto research with correlational design. The samples of the research were 31 students of tenth grade selected by using random sampling with lottery system. There were two research instruments which were used to collect the data. It was close task as vocabulary instrument and a short describing monologue as the speaking test. Based on the results of Pearson Product Moment Correlation and T-test, the researcher confirmed that the directional hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, there is a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability of the tenth grade student of SMK Saraswati 1 Denpasar in academic year 2020/2021.

Abstract

The present study is an ex-post facto research with correlation design was intended to figure out the significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Blahbatuh in academic year 2021/2022. The samples of the research consisted of 60 students which were chosen by means of random sampling method with lottery system. The data were collected through administering the research instruments which were in the form of structured matching cloze procedure test and short answer test. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pearson product moment correlation and t-test. The results of the data analysis clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Blahbatuh in academic year 2021/2022.

Abstract

This study was aimed at finding out whether using TPS could improve the subjects’ reading comprehension. The subjects were the eleventh-grade students of SMA Pariwisata Saraswati Klungkung in academic year 2021/2022, especially the students of XI MIPA 1 class which consisted of 33 students. Based on the result of pre-test, it was found that many students had problems in identifying general information, specific information, textual meaning and textual reference. Therefore, the TPS technique was carried out and divided into two cycles. The data were obtained by administering post-test 1 and post-test 2 at the end of each cycle. The mean scores of pre-test, posttest 1, and post-test 2 were respectively 58.30, 67.57, and 74.21. The result of the post-tests showed that there were significant improvements toward subjects reading comprehension. Moreover, the result of the questionnaire showed that the subjects gave positive responses toward the use of TPS technique. In conclusion, this study proved that reading comprehension of the eleventh-grade students of SMA Pariwisata Saraswati Klungkung in the academic year 2021/2022 could be improved through the TPS technique.

Abstract

Reading is considered as an essential skill in English that should be mastered by the students in all grades as well as in junior high school. On the other hand, many students faced many problems and difficulties in reading. The present classroom action research was mainly intended to figure out whether the subjects’ reading comprehension can be improved through Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) with picture. However, based on the preliminary investigation which was conducted in SMPN 4 Mengwi, it was found that most of the subjects’ reading comprehension was low and most of them could not pass the minimum passing grade, 75. It was supported by the result of pre-test which was carried out in the pre-cycle, there were 31 subjects who did the pre-test had low reading comprehension. The study was then carried out by implementing Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) With Picture in two cycles. The result of the post-test in each cycle clearly showed there was significant improvement concerning the subjects’ reading comprehension a narrative text. Furthermore, there were positive responses concerning the implementation of the technique which combined with teaching media in improving the subjects’ reading comprehension. In other words, the present study proved that reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMPN 4 Mengwi in academic year 2020/2021 can be improved through Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) Strategi with Picture.

Abstract

This correlational study is aimed to find out the correlation between grammar mastery and writing skill of the tenth grade of SMK Ratna Wartha Ubud in academic year 2021/2022. The samples which were involved in this research were 60 samples selected by using a random sampling method. The researcher used two tests to get the data of grammar mastery and writing skill, such as: multiple choice test items for the grammar mastery and asking students to create descriptive text based on the guiding instrument given. The obtained data were assessed by using SPSS 26.00 version for windows. Based on the data analysis, it showed that there is a high, significant, and positive correlation between grammar mastery and writing skill of the tenth grade students of SMK Ratna Wartha Ubud in academic year 2021/2022. Therefore, the research question was answered that there is a significant correlation between grammar mastery and writing skill.
