Advances in Tourism Studies (ATS) is an English peer-reviewed journal published by the Centre for Tourism Studies and Journal Publication Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Mataram. Since it was first issued in March 2023, JESP has been publishing scientific articles consistently research articles. ATS aims at initiating and stimulating advances in tourism research. Therefore, it publishes papers that promote new ideas, models, approaches, and paradigms by contributing to the advances in knowledge and theory of tourism. The journal covers applied research studies and review articles, both in the format of full-length articles and research notes. Applied research studies are expected to examine relationships among variables relevant to tourism by employing appropriate analytical or statistical techniques. High-quality review articles that address the latest advances and develop theoretical knowledge or thinking about key aspects of tourism are accepted. All papers are subject to a double-blind peer review process based on an initial screening by the editor criteria for evaluation include significant contribution to the field, conceptual quality, appropriate methodology, and clarity of exposition. Abstract

This qualitative research study aimed to design an effective promotion strategy for Kere Alang Poto Village to increase its visibility among the wider community. The study used a combination of research methods, including observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation to collect data. The findings showed that organizing events and utilizing online marketing were effective strategies in promoting Kere Alang woven fabrics, supporting tourism development in Sumbawa Regency. The study's main contribution is providing insights into effective promotion strategies that can help support the growth of the local economy and tourism industry in Sumbawa Regency. Additionally, the study's use of SWOT analysis to analyze the research data can be useful for researchers and practitioners in developing promotional strategies for similar contexts

Abstract

This study examines the role of stakeholders in developing tourism in the Old City of Ampenan, Mataram City, Indonesia. Despite being designated as one of the Indonesian Heritage Cities Network's 43 cities, Ampenan's tourism potential has not been fully realized and is even on the decline due to a lack of joint efforts by tourism stakeholders. The Pentahelix players are composed of the government, academia, industry, community, and tourists, and their roles in tourism development are investigated. Strategies for sustainable tourism development are proposed based on data collected through non-participant observation, unstructured interviews, and documentation. The results highlight the potential of Ampenan Old City as a tourist destination and the contributions of various stakeholders to its development. The study concludes that the Ampenan Old City is a must-visit destination, featuring impressive cultural landmarks, natural beauty, and accessibility, and recommends further collaboration between stakeholders to improve its sustainable development.

Abstract

West Nusa Tenggara is one of the provinces in Indonesia that has been struggling with poverty for a long time. Over the years, the government and private sector have invested heavily in various sectors to improve the economic condition of the province. This paper compares the impact of investments in tourism, health, education, and mining on poverty alleviation in West Nusa Tenggara. The study used both qualitative method to analyze the data collected through surveys and interviews. The results indicate that investment in tourism and education has a more significant impact on poverty alleviation compared to investments in health and mining. The paper concludes by highlighting the need for the government and private sector to focus more on sustainable investments in tourism and education to improve the economic condition of West Nusa Tenggara.

Abstract

This qualitative study examines the potential of the creative economy in Sukarara Village, Indonesia, by empowering Songket woven fabric craftsmen in tourism. The research question is to explore how empowering Songket craftsmen in tourism can revive the industry and promote the creative economy in Sukarara Village. The study was conducted in Sukarara Village, Jonggat District, Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, and data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The participants included Songket woven fabric craftsmen, traditional institution members, and local community members involved in tourism activities. The data collection techniques used were semi-structured interviews, open-ended interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The study's findings reveal that tourism activities based on the creative economy in Sukarara Village include weaving Songket fabrics, studying motifs and production, traditional customs, marketing, and management. The community involvement in empowering the craftsmen includes developing traditional institutions, arts, cadet's corals, and weaving patents. The study highlights the practical implications of empowering Songket craftsmen in tourism, such as boosting the local economy and promoting cultural heritage. In conclusion, this study provides insights into how the creative economy can be harnessed through tourism to revive traditional crafts and promote community development

Abstract

The purpose is to determine how the impact of the development of Tanjung Menangis Beach Tourist Destinations on the economic empowerment of local communities in the hamlet of Ketapang Village Peringgabaya Kbupaten East Lombok. The research method used in this study is the descriptive qualitative method. The data collected in this study comes from interviews, observations, and documentation from parties and institutions related to the development of tourism villages, namely business actors and craftsmen. the results of research in the field it is known that the form of Tourism Development in Tanjung Menangis Beach is in the form of infrastructure development both in terms of attractions, amenities, accessibility, ancillary services, and institutions have a positive impact on the economic empowerment of local communities. The research will be interesting to do because they want to know more about the tourist destination Tanjung Menangis Beach with various forms of development that have been done then how the impact of its development on the economic empowerment of local communities.

Abstract

This research examines the role of Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis) in tourism development, focusing on Impos Beach in Medana Village, Tanjung District, North Lombok Regency. The study highlights the Pokdarwis Sejahtera as an informal institution formed by community members, playing a significant role in promoting Tourism Awareness and Sapta Pesona. The research aims to answer two key questions: (1) What is the role of Pokdarwis in tourism development at Impos Beach? (2) What are the supporting and inhibiting factors for Pokdarwis in tourism development at Impos Beach? Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the study reveals that Pokdarwis Sejahtera serves as a government partner in tourism development, encourages community engagement and hospitality, and promotes Sapta Pesona. Supporting factors include community collaboration, equitable distribution of benefits, and willingness to work with Pokdarwis, while inhibiting factors involve limited capital, social jealousy, inadequate human resources, and tourists' low awareness of cleanliness

Abstract

This study aims to describe the potential of edu-ecotourism and formulate strategies for developing edu-ecotourism in Batudulang Village, Batulanteh District, Sumbawa Regency. This research is descriptive and qualitative. The study starts by identifying existing potential and analyzing supporting and inhibiting factors, followed by using the SOAR technique to identify opportunities. Data collection techniques include field observations, interviews, and documentation, with informants selected through purposive samplings, such as the Head of Batulanteh Production Forest Management Center, the Secretary of Batudulang Village, the Batudulang Tourism Awareness Group, and the Head of Village-Owned Enterprises. The strategy for edu-ecotourism development is based on the SOAR analysis, which focuses on developing all existing potentials, including natural resources such as biodiversity (flora and fauna) and the beauty of the landscape, as well as the natural topography potential of the area and the local community's culture. All these potentials can be packaged into one edu-ecotourism package, taking into account market segmentation.

Abstract

This research explores the profound impact of social media on tourist behavior, focusing on destination selection and decision-making. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and content analysis, the study provides comprehensive insights into this phenomenon. The findings reveal that social media platforms significantly influence tourists' destination choices by offering user-generated content and peer recommendations. Real-time updates, interactive content, and virtual conversations enable informed decision-making and diverse travel experiences. Moreover, social media facilitates the discovery of hidden gems and fosters engagement with local communities, enhancing overall tourism experiences. The study emphasizes the importance of effective social media utilization by destination marketers and policymakers to engage with tourists and shape their choices. Understanding social media's impact on tourist behavior informs strategies for destination marketing, visitor engagement, and sustainable tourism development.

Abstract

This study investigates the development of cultural heritage tourism in Malaysia and its sustainability. It highlights the importance of meeting local community needs, satisfying tourist demands, and safeguarding natural and cultural resources for sustainable tourism development. The study employs questionnaires, surveys, and interviews to explore management issues and government involvement. Findings reveal shortcomings in definitions, management issues, and limited community involvement. The study calls for improved tourist services, promotion of diverse cultural elements, and proposes a Sustainable Cultural Heritage Tourism Framework. It contributes new knowledge and can guide future policy actions.
