Abstract

Pigs are important livestock commodities of the community in the East Nusa Tenggara. Pigs in East Nusa Tenggara sussceptible to endoparasite disease because of traditionally maintained. One of worm parasites that attack the pigs are Ascaris suum. The purpose of this study to determine the prevalence and morphological characteristic in 10 pigs local races and 10 landrace race. The results showed from 12 pigs local races only 1 had infected of Ascaris suum with prevalence of 8,3%. Of the 142 pigs landrace race are found 10 pigs had infected of Ascaris suum with prevalence of 7,04%. According to worm count, the value of Ascaris suum infection in race lokal pigs relatively higher with burden parasitism 72 worm per pig compared to landrace pig races with infection load average of 1,5 worm per pig. Morphological examination of Ascaris suum in pigs local race shows the length and diameter of female worms 25,25(±3,23) cm and 3,37(±0,91) mm and the length and diameter of the male worms 29,13(±3,84) cm and 5,03 (±1,28)mm and the length and diameter of the male worms 20,62(±2,37)cm and 3,02 (±1,59)mm. Ascaris suum male has a reddish brown color and in Ascaris suum females have a pale brown color (white). the concluded of this study Ascaris suum in kota kupang has the morphological characteristics that are not much different with the literature, with the highest prevalence occurs in pigs local races

Abstract

Dog helmintiasis is generally caused by nematodes. The most destructive worm from nematode class is Toxocara canis. Toxocara canis causes worst thing for dog healthy. An adult worm infestation can cause less nutrition absorbtion in small intestine that leads to lose some weight. This research aims to have body weight gain in naturally infected local breed puppies by Toxocara canis after pyrantel pamoat administration in Kupang. Samples were taken from 24 domestic puppies at an early age of 1-2 month old which have positively infected by Toxocara canis. They were devided in to two groups. Groups 1: comprised of 20 puppies, they were feeding pyrantel pamoate on first day, the eight and the fifteen by the dose of 5 mg/kg weight on the contrary for the controlled groups there were four puppies. The parameter which had observed in this research were every egg per gram (EPG), weight gain (WG) and body condition scoring (BCS). The result showed that pyrantel pamoat medicine had good effect to eradicate worm infection of Toxocara canis. Pyrantel pamoate can reduce a number of worm eggs by the presentation FECRT of 97%, increasing puppy weight gain and puppy daily weight gain and also increasing body condition scoring of the puppies.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the the effect diluent of commercial is diluent BTS® and MIII® in maintaining sperm motility and viability of landrace boars during storage at different temperatures at refrigerator (5 °C), AC (28 °C) and room temperature (32 °C). This experiment used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatment and 4 replications. Semen was collected twice a week from landrace boars. Semen Characteristic and their quality were evaluated macroscopically and microscopically. Good quality semen have motility >70%, sperm concentration 200 x 106 sperm/ml and morphological abnormality less than 20%, these semen were added with diluent commercial is diluent BTS® and MIII®. Sperm motility and viability were evaluated every 2 hours until 40% motility were evaluated. The result showed that fresh semen characteristic were good, with the presentage of sperm motility 85% with sperm concentration 242.50±16.5% and morphological abnormality 12.50±1.70%. The results showed that the liquid semen of landrace boar were stored at a temperature of 28 °C is better results temperature with the percentage motility of sperm 54.50% during 38 hours and temperature of 5 °C showed the second best result with the percentage of 46.32% motility during 36 hours of storage in the diluent BTS® . In conclusion : BTS® diluent is an appropriate diluent used to maintaining semen quality of landrace boars quality during preservasion.

Abstract

Examination of blood profile is very important because the blood has a function in circulatory system and as an indicator for disease but it also helps to monitor the incidence of a disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the hematology profile and blood morphology of the bali cattle (Bos sundaicus) in landfills alak kota Kupang. There are 24 samples of bali cattle were divided in three group: eight cows with age range from 0 to 1.5, eight cows with age range from 1.5 - 3 and eight samples with age range age > 3 years. Parameters were observedusing a hematology autoanalyzer: the number of erythrocyte, leukocyte, hemoglobine, PCV, MCV, MCH, and MCHC; and morphological blood profile was examined using blood smear methods. The results of this study showed normocytic, microcytic, macrocytic, the value of MCH high, hyperchromic and leukocyte counts more higher than normal. Erythrocyte morphological abnormalities were found in this research such as macrocytosis, microcytosis, spherositosis, acanthositosis, burr crenation cell / echinocytes, tear drop cells and hypochromasia. The data obtained are presented in tables and images were analyzed descriptively.

Abstract

This research aims to describe Macroscopic and microscopic oesophagus and proventriculus the red jungle fowl (Gallus gallus) from the island of Timor. The main material used in this study a piece of tissue 6 pieces esophagus and proventriculus. Chicken killed by create air embolism into the heart using a spuit through the chest cavity, continue taken organ oesophagus and proventriculus to perform microscopic. further cuts and fixation of tissue samples. Tissue that have fixed taken for preparation of histology. The results showed that esophagus divided into cranial, medial and caudal. with a total rerata length 13,3 ± 3,74 cm, weight 5,2 ± 0,21 g, diameter cranial 0,3 ± 0,0 mm, diameter medial 0,1 ± 0,0 mm and diameter caudal 0,2 ± 0,0 mm. Esophageal mucosa covered by epitelium squamosum compleks not keratinized, and consists of lamina propria and muscularis mucosa. Esophageal gland-type mucus, found in abundance distribution along the esophageal mucosa. Submucosal startum consisting of loose connective tissue. The external muscular startum consisting of the inner circular smooth muscle and longitudinal smooth muscle on the outside. and adventitia layer composed of blood vessels and loose connective tissue. Proventrikulus has a total rerata length of 2,5 ± 0,0 cm, weighs 1,6 ± 0,1 g and a diameter of 0,7 ± 0,0 mm. Startum consisting of lamina epithelialis mucosa, lamina propria, and muscularis mucosa. Submucosal startum in the form of connective tissue. Tunica muscularis satrum composed by smooth muscle. Serous tunica startum consists of loose connective tissue and mesothelium

Abstract

Food is the main and important source of the human needs stay alive. Good food is a food that free from all the type of contaminations. Based on the origin of the food, there is to type of food; food from animal origin and vegetable origin. Egg is one of the food from animal origin, which has high nutritional value, but easily damaged if not handled well, threfore egg must be handled with special treatment to extend the consumption period. Purpose of this research is to review the liquid smoke to determine the effect The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of liquid smoke to the eggs storage period were observed through microbial contamination, yolk index, egg white index and haugh unit and air sac. The egg samples used is 54 eggs of chicken with the age of 0 days and tests were conducted at the Laboratory of Animal Disease and Veterinary Public Health The Universty of Nusa Cendana, Kupang. The study design used is a randomized block design, where samples are divided into 3 group, control group, the Group immediately spray with liquid smoke and topical group as soon as with liquid smoke. Results is the used of liquid smoke has effect against future save the eggs seen on the microbiological quality of eggs that is able to maintain the future save of the eggs up to 25 days, but the liquid smoke has no effect on the future save of eggs viewed from the physical eggs either on the indeks yolk, white indeks eggs, haugh unit and air sac.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the effect of commercial thinning is thinning Beltsville thawing Solution (BTS) and Mulberry III (MIII) with a water jacket method and non-water jacket against landrace pig semen quality after stored at 5° C. This study uses a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 2 control within five repetitions. Fresh semen that fulfill the criteria diluted with Beltsville thawing Solution (BTS) and Mulberry III (MIII), then stored using non-water jacket and water jacket at 5 °C of temperature. Motility and viability observations of spermatozoa performed every 2 hours after storage for up to a decline in the percentage motility of at least 40%. Research result shows the characteristics of fresh semen motility is 84.50 ± 0:50, the concentration is 250 ± 8:36 sperm cells / ml and 13.60 ± 1.72 abnormality. Semen observations which diluted with Beltsville thawing Solution (BTS) at 5 °C temperature shows the water jacket method is better than the non-water jacket method with a percentage of 57.00 ± 1.22 % motility during 32 hours storages. Semen observations which diluted with Mulberry III (MIII) at 5 °C temperature shows the water jacket method is better than the non-water jacket method with a percentage of 51.00 ± 1.00% motility during 32 hours storages. Semen observations which diluted with Beltsville thawing Solution (BTS) and Mulberry III (MIII) shows the BTS water jacket liquid semen is better than BTS non water jacket, miii water jacket and miii non water jacket with motility percentage 57.00 ± 1.22% for 32 hours storages. It was concluded that the water jacket method is better than the non-water jacket method and water jacket BTS is more effective to maintaining the spermatozoa quality during storages at 5 ° C.

Abstract

Dendeng is a traditional food results by the public Rote Ndao. The processing is done in the District Lobalain(Rote Ndao). Methods of use of the sugar palm consisting of 4 treatments, KO (without giving sugar palm), K1 (10% concentration of palm sugar), K2 (20% concentration of palm sugar), K3 (30% concentration of palm sugar), K4 (40% concentration palm sugar). 4 times the storage of dendeng with the observation that the 5th day (P1), 10th day (P2), 15th day (P3), 20th day (P4). The quality of dendeng observed included presentations lost water content after processing, testing organoleptic and microbiological quality in terms of Total Plate Count (TPC). The test results of water content during storage of Dendeng showed that, giving palm sugar concentration of 40% in the processing of dendeng, has a water content lower than the palm sugar concentration of 10%, 20% and 30%. During storage from day 5 to day 15, the water content with giving Dendeng palm sugar concentration of 40%, still meets the SNI. Organoleptic tests show that administration of palm sugar concentration levels in the processing of dendeng affect the quality of appearance, consistency / texture, aroma and taste of Dendeng. During storage in certain storage time of each treatment dendeng change the appearance, consistency or texture, aroma and taste. The test results TPC (Total Plate Count) of Dendeng showed that, giving the concentration of sugar palm sugar palm 40% in the processing of Dendeng, has a value of TPC (Total Plate Count) is lower than the concentration of sugar palm 10%, 20%, and 30 %. During storage, only on day 5 dendeng with palm sugar concentration giving 40% to abide by the TPC (Total Plate Count) of SNI.

Abstract

Azadirachta indica (neem), a plant used as traditional remedies, has been reported as hepatoprotector agent against liver damage of drugs abused. The present study aimed to investigate hepatoprotective activity ofethanolic extract of neem leaves on serum levels of glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) and histopathological studies of liver in rat’s model of aspirin-induced hepatotoxicity. Two to three months old male rats weighing between 20-30 g were used in this study. These rats were divided into 5 groups with three animals in each group. The experimental design were as follows: K1 is a negative control group and was treated with standard diet; K2 is a positive control group and was administered aspirin toxic dose (0.52 mg/30 g B.W., PO); P1 was treated with ethanolic extract of neem leaves (EEDM) dose I (0,7 mg/30 g B.W., PO) and aspirin toxic dose (0.52 mg/30 g B.W., PO); P2 was treated EEDM dose II (0,9 mg/30 g B.W., PO) and aspirin toxic dose (0.52 mg/30 g B.W., PO); and P3 was also treated with EEDM dose III (1.35 mg/30 g B.W., PO) and aspirin toxic dose (0.52 mg/30 g B.W., PO). The EEDM were administered to rats for 14 days, while aspirin toxic dose were given for the last three days (day 12, 13, and 14) during experiment. The serum levels were measured before treatment and on the last day (day 14). The results showed that the measurement of SGPT levels may not be a criterion, but the degree of liver damage can be seen in the histopathology. Histopathological observation of liver tissues of P1 and P2 shows minimal hepatocytes necrosis compare to other groups. In conclusion, EEDM dose I and II may have hepatoprotective activity against aspirin intoxication.

Abstract

Sheep is encountered in tropical area because can life good in extreme environment conditions. Sheep is a hot blood animal because can maintain body temperature in specified range. High temperature of envorenment cause stress of animal, because heat regulation system is not balanced with environment. Animals That stress Due Environment Temperature Heat, causing changes in physiology behaviour what can be measured from changes in rectal temperature, respiratory frequency and heart rate. The difference environmental temperature in each place causes a difference of body temperature in animal. Because of that, it’s important to having the optimal temperature animal on that place, to keep the growth and productivity functions. Kupang regency is in the semi arid area with high environment temperature and the low rainfall especially in oesao village. Because of that, and there’s not data of sheep physiological in Kupang district, Researchers Want to know the normal physiological of sheep in Oesao Village District of East Kupang, Kupang. The measured parameter are body temperature, respiration and pulse. This research uses as much as 24 fat tail sheep. Sample are grouped based on age. Young group with age <1 years, and adult group with age >1 years. The result showed that Rectal temperature fat tail sheep in the village Oesao on morning is 39,0ºC to 39,8ºC and day is 39,9ºC to 39,3ºC. The mean frequency of respiration on morning is 33 x / min to 38 x / min days 35 x / min to 39 x / min. The mean heart rate is on the morning is 78 x / min to 81 x / min and day 80 x / min to 82 x / min. it is concluded that the value of the physiological fat tail sheep in Oesao is on normal range.
