Abstract

Infection is one of the diseases that can be transmitted to humans which until now still has to be seriously resolved. Staphylococcus aureus infection is a problem that is of great concern due to the increase in bacterial resistance to various antibiotics. With the widespread resistance of bacteria to existing drugs, further encouragement must be carried out on the importance of efforts to create new alternatives by administering infectious disease prevention drugs using raw materials from nature. The research method uses secondary data taken from literature studies, which are analyzed from data related to the effectiveness of medical plants. Data collection techniques in this research are in the form of reviews from scientific journals, published national and international journals. The results obtained from several research literatures that are effective against the growth of staphylococcus aureus bacteria are Moringa leaves. Where at low concentrations, Moringa leaves provide a large diameter of the inhibition area for bacterial growth and if the given concentration is increased, the diameter of the area of bacterial inhibition produced will be even greater. This is also supported by several previous studies that have been carried out by many researchers that Moringa leaves have antibacterial activity against antibiotic-resistant pathogenic bacteria, especially Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and Moringa leaves contain several secondary metabolite compounds that actively inhibit bacterial growth, namely flavonoids, saponins and tannins.

Abstract

Self-medication is a treatment that is carried out alone or independently with the aim of preventing or treating a disease. Diseases that are usually carried out by self-medication are coughs and flu. This article aims to look at the potential of herbal medicines in Indonesia as self-medication in the treatment of coughs and flu. The important value in this review article is the use of herbal plants in self-medication. The type of research method used in this review article is using review article studies, by collecting data derived from articles in journal form on the topic of using herbal medicines in self-medication efforts or self-medication for coughs and flu in the last 10 years. Retrieval of articles with a range of the last 10 years is still considered relevant and well used. Herbal medicine that has been widely used in the last 10 years is ginger (Zingiber officinale). Ginger is widely used because it has been proven empirically.

Abstract

Banana plant (Musa paadisiaca L.)is a type of herbaceous fruit. The banana plant consists of roots, stems, leaves, flowers and fruit. The purpose of this article review is to find out the benefits of banana plants as cosmetic preparations. The content of banana plants include flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, saponins and others. The type of research method used in review article is to use a literature review, by collecting journals and evaluating information from several journals or guidelines related to the use of banana plants (Musa paradisiaca l.). Banana plants can be used as cosmetic preparations in the form of pell off, loose powder, sheet mask, liquid soap, cream hair polish, lotion and gel. The parts of the banana plant that are used as cosmetic preparations are the banana weevil, stem, midrib, banana leaf, banana peel, and banana heart midrib. Abstract

Betel leaf extract (Piper bettle L.) is known to contain flavonoid compounds that have antibacterial activity. Betel leaf extract needs to be formulated as a foot preparation lotion to increase the comfort of use as a topical antibacterial. The composition of the emulsifier influences the physical stability of the preparation foot lotion used. This study aims to determine the variation of stearic acid preparations foot lotion, which has good physical quality and is stable in storage. This research is purely experimental laboratory research that aims at development (development), namely developing something in an existing field (development of test methods, drug formulation). The observed responses were the physical quality of the preparations, which included organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, pH tests, spreadability tests, and adhesion tests. The physical quality of preparations of foot lotion was analyzed descriptively. This research began with a maceration process using 70% ethanol to obtain a thick betel leaf extract (Piper bettle L.). This study made three preparation formulas with foot lotion with stearic acid concentrations of 10%, 12.5%, and 15%. The preparations that have been made are then tested for their physical quality and stability during four weeks of storage. The results of this study indicate that the preparations obtained foot lotion betel leaf ethanol extract (Piper bettle L.) with a variation of stearic acid of 10% to produce preparations of foot lotion with good physical quality seen from organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, and adhesion and stable in storage for four weeks.

Abstract

One of the original Indonesian plants that has medicinal properties is Dewandaru (Eugenia uniflora Linn.). Dewandaru shows cytotoxic activity against cancer cells so it has the potential to be used as a drug preparation. The potential compound from the leaves of Dewandaru is Curzerene. This research was conducted to identify the interaction between the compounds of dewadaru leaves and PI3K receptors in prostate cancer. This study uses a computational method known as molecular docking. Bond energies, visualization of bonds, and types of bonds between compounds and receptors were observed. The PI3K receptor has fulfilled the method validation test requirements. The results showed that compounds from the dewadaru plant could inhibit one target protein from prostate cancer which was expressed with the lowest ∆Gbinding value, namely Curzerene compound (-7.65 kcal/mol) in PI3K protein. The interaction between Curzerene compounds has a lower binding energy value when compared to the original ligands at the PI3K receptor. Thus, it can be concluded that the Curzerene compound in the dewadaru plant used in the study has a good interaction with the PI3K receptor in prostate cancer. This compound has the potential to be developed as an anticancer drug. It is necessary to carry out in vivo testing and modification of the structure of the compound so that it can be used as an effective anticancer therapy in prostate cancer. Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from impaired insulin secretion. Dewandaru fruit (Eugenia uniflora L.) contains flavonoids which act as free radical scavengers and reduce oxidative stress. This study aims to prove that the administration of ethanol extract of dewadaru fruit at doses of 200 mg/KgBW and 400 mg/KgB can reduce blood glucose levels and repair damage to pancreatic β cells in alloxan-induced male white mice (Rattus norvegicus) wistar strain diabetes mellitus. This study used 32 mice aged 2-3 months weighing 25 grams intraperitoneally induced by alloxan (0.5 ml/kg). Mice were divided into four treatment groups, namely K- (alloxan), K+ (glibenclamide), P1 (dose of dewadaru fruit extract 200 mg/kgBB), P2 (dose of dewadaru fruit extract 400 mg/kgBB) Quantitative data by calculating blood glucose levels and the number of pancreatic β cells were analyzed using Paired T-Test. P2 is the dose of dewadaru fruit extract 400 mg/kg BW. In the repair of pancreatic β cells it was stated that the average damage to pancreatic β cells at a dose of 200 mg/KgBB was 67.5 and at a dose of 400 mg/KgBW was 89.1. This study proves that the ethanol extract of dewadaru fruit is able to lower blood glucose and inhibit the rate of damage to pancreatic β cells in mice with diabetes mellitus. Keywords: dewadaru, diabetes mellitus, blood glucose, pancreatic β cells
