Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from impaired insulin secretion. Dewandaru fruit (Eugenia uniflora L.) contains flavonoids which act as free radical scavengers and reduce oxidative stress. This study aims to prove that the administration of ethanol extract of dewadaru fruit at doses of 200 mg/KgBW and 400 mg/KgB can reduce blood glucose levels and repair damage to pancreatic β cells in alloxan-induced male white mice (Rattus norvegicus) wistar strain diabetes mellitus. This study used 32 mice aged 2-3 months weighing 25 grams intraperitoneally induced by alloxan (0.5 ml/kg). Mice were divided into four treatment groups, namely K- (alloxan), K+ (glibenclamide), P1 (dose of dewadaru fruit extract 200 mg/kgBB), P2 (dose of dewadaru fruit extract 400 mg/kgBB) Quantitative data by calculating blood glucose levels and the number of pancreatic β cells were analyzed using Paired T-Test. P2 is the dose of dewadaru fruit extract 400 mg/kg BW. In the repair of pancreatic β cells it was stated that the average damage to pancreatic β cells at a dose of 200 mg/KgBB was 67.5 and at a dose of 400 mg/KgBW was 89.1. This study proves that the ethanol extract of dewadaru fruit is able to lower blood glucose and inhibit the rate of damage to pancreatic β cells in mice with diabetes mellitus. Keywords: dewadaru, diabetes mellitus, blood glucose, pancreatic β cells

Abstract

Ethnopharmacy is a part of pharmaceutical science that includes understanding medicinal plants used and studying how certain ethnic or community communities use drugs. Studies on ethnopharmaceuticals have never been carried out on the community in the Sumerta Kelod area, especially the Banjar Keseparat community. Where there are still many Banjar Keseparat people who use plants as medicine. This research is a descriptive research. Data collection was done by interview method. The sampling technique in this study used a non-probability sampling method. The results showed that ethnopharmaceutical research that had been carried out in Banjar Kejuangan, Sumerta Kelod obtained in general 12 types of plants that were located in Banjar Kejuangan, Sumerta Kelod. Where the plant parts used were 67% leaves, 17% rhizomes, 8% stems, and 8% flowers. The method of processing plants with the highest frequency was by boiling, which was 92%. The most frequently used method of using ethnopharmaceutical plants is by drinking, which is equal to 83%, and the most frequently used indication for medicinal plants is to treat joint problems, such as muscle pain and gout (28%).

Abstract

Aphrodisiac is a medicinal and food ingredient that can arouse sexual desire. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of aphrodisiac effectiveness and the effect of aphrodisiac activity on effervescent tablets of bitter melon extract (Momordica charantia L) and garlic (Allium sativum L) single and combination on male white mice (Mus musculus). In this study using the ICC method (introduction, claimbing, coitus) on 25 male mice wistar strain which were divided into 5 groups. Treatment group I as a negative control, which was administered aquadest orally. Then group II was given a solution of effervescent tablets single dose of bitter melon fruit 980mg / KgBB. Furthermore, group III was given a solution of effervescent tablets of a single dose of garlic 150mg / KgBB. treatment group IV was given a solution of effervescent tablets combination 1/2 : 1/2 bitter melon fruit extract 490mg / KgBB and garlic 75mg / kgBB. Treatment group V was given a combination effervescent tablet solution of 1: 1 extract of bitter melon fruit 980mg / KgBB and garlic 150mg / KgBB. Then observed and calculated the number of ICCs for 2 hours. The results obtained were then processed using SPSS ANOVA and Post Hoc follow-up tests. The results showed that all treatment groups had significantly different aphrodisiac effects, but the best frequency of aphrodisiac activity showed that the combination of 1: 1 extract of bitter melon 980mg / KgBB and garlic 150mg / KgBB had the most frequency value using the ICC method when compared to other effervescent tablet formulations.

Abstract

Avocado seeds contain secondary metabolite compounds that have many benefits such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and vitamin E which can be utilized for skin care. Body scrub is a skin care preparation in the form of a liquid emulsion consisting of an oil phase and an aqueous phase with coarse grains that are useful for moisturizing, cleaning the surface of the skin pores, removing dead skin cells as well as being a carrier for efficacious substances into the skin. This study aims to see a body scrub preparation formulation of avocado seed ethanol extract that meets the physical quality requirements and determination of the potential irritation of body scrubs. The method of making avocado seed ethanol extract is done by maceration and remaceration. Four formulations were made, namely F0 base, F1 1%, F2 5% and F3 10%. The physical evaluation carried out was organoleptical test, pH test, homogeneity test, spreadability test, adhesion test, viscosity test, and irritation test. The results showed that the body scrub preparation made had met the requirements of the physical quality test and the value of the degree of irritation of the body scrub was 0.3-1.3 which means very mild irritation to mild irritation.
