Inclusive education has become a discussion in the global community. The involvement of the global community in the success of education and learning that is student-friendly, environmentally friendly, and learning-friendly is needed. Therefore, inclusive education has undergone many changes and advances in the education system in Southeast Asia in particular and the world in general. Until now, inclusive education has grown and established itself in providing the widest possible opportunity and space for students with special needs to stand equal to other students so that they can become an active part of society and the country. However, it can’t be denied that the practice of special education still needs various improvements in various aspects. This condition is a challenge for Special Education to continue to develop and adapt to respond to challenges in the future. To answer these challenges requires research, publication, innovation, and creativity as well as an accommodation based on the needs of the community, educators, educational staff, and students. The International Conference on Special Education in the Southeast Asian Region (ICSAR) is one of the answers to the requirements for the growth of special education in Southeast Asia. This conference will bring together academics and experts from around the world to collaborate to create a safe and comfortable environment for people with special needs in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

With today’s increasingly challenging and growing transformation and technology within the world of education, the impact on the education system among students with special educational needs (SEN) with learning problems is no less great. Various initiatives have been set by the ministry for the benefit of students with special educational need's future, such as the expansion of students with special educational need's Career Transition Program. This study aims to discuss the application of entrepreneurial skills in Career Transition Program among students with special educational needs (SEN). This study uses a qualitative approach, which is a method of structured interviews, observations and document analysis. The study sample is a total of four special educational teachers who teach vocational subjects. The findings of this study show that there are four elements of entrepreneurial skills that are applied to students with special educational need, especially with learning disabilities, which are the skills to produce products, the skills to market products, the skills to do business and communicate and the skills to calculate costs. Most individuals with special needs can perform productively if given the knowledge and skills through an appropriate educational program.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the level of readiness of teachers based on their knowledge, skills and attitudes towards screening techniques among pre-schoolers and identify types of screening conducted by the teachers. The study refers to several recent journals in the form of systematic analysis as studies supporting the issues to be debated in this concept paper. The findings show that teachers do not have sufficient knowledge and skills in screening of pupil of who are at risk of disabilities. This leads to an unhealthy attitude in conducting screening method. The findings also identify the types of screening performed by teachers through the checklist and test adapted from abroad. Ministry of Education (MOE) may take approaches and initiatives to provide courses for teachers on speech and occupational in performing screening. Furthermore, MOE can also place therapist and interventionist officials in schools as one of the steps to realize the initial screening of disability based in the Zero Reject Policy. Positive acceptance from parents affects teachers in implementing the screening of pupil of who are at risk of disabilities. At the same time, reducing the risk of disability and increasing the preschooler’s readiness going to school later.

Abstract

Wasting is one of the nutritional problems in Indonesia with a prevalence of 7.1% (2021). This prevalence is still above the standard set by WHO (5%). Children under 5 years old with wasting nutritional status will experience stunted growth and development that can affect their productivity in the future. Nutrition education on feeding practice given for mothers aims to improve mothers’ knowledge and skill in the practice of feeding and drinking according to WHO recommendation and to overcome wasting. Method used in this research was Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on journals published from 2019 to 2023. These journals were collected from Google Scholar Database. This research had several research questions. The results showed that when mothers’ knowledge and skill in the practice of feeding and drinking improved.

Abstract

Children with cerebral palsy (CP) have eating and drinking difficulties, so caregivers should have knowledge and skills about feeding practice. Education to caregivers about feeding practice aims to support children with CP to be able to eat and drink safely and efficiently. Feeding practice about diet, food consistency, food variety, and appropriate eating and drinking utensils for children with CP can support their functional ability in receiving food and drinks. The method used was the scoping review of articles obtained from PUBMED, Science Direct, and Google Scholar database. The articles obtained were then selected using the article selection diagram. This review focused on feeding practice educational intervention for caregivers to support the eating and drinking ability of children with CP. The results showed that the caregivers’ knowledge and skills in carrying out the feeding practice could increase the safety, time efficiency, and eating and drinking ability of children with CP.

Abstract

Teaching and learning mathematics in an inclusive manner is growing, primarily to ensure that students with special needs receive equal education with mainstream students. Therefore, this study was carried out in order to identify the challenges that teachers face when implementing inclusive mathematics teaching in primary schools. This qualitative study employs a case study design with two outstanding special education teachers who are involved in inclusive education programmes in primary schools. Data collection method was done using semi-structured interviews and field notes. The data obtained were analyzed using the constant comparative analysis method to determine themes and sub-themes. The findings of the study found that special education teachers face various challenges in teaching mathematics in an inclusive manner, namely lack of pedagogical content knowledge to teaching mathematics in inclusive classrooms, dense classes, problems of subject teachers' attitudes and motivations, bullying problems between mainstream students and special needs students, and problems in ensuring effective communication in inclusive classes. This study expands the knowledge and literature about the challenges faced by special education teachers in primary schools in implementing inclusive teaching. Various initiatives must be taken to ensure that all challenges can be overcome and that inclusive mathematics teaching can be implemented effectively.

Abstract

One of the characteristics of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is difficulty paying attention and difficulty listening. This can hinder children with ADHD in learning to imitate, such as imitating activities that use gross motor skills. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of interventions using ablution movements with prompting techniques in improving the imitation gross motor skills of children with ADHD. The method used is an experimental method with the type of single subject research (SSR) and using the ABA design on one child with ADHD. The results of the study find that ablution interventions with appropriate prompting techniques according to children's abilities could improve the gross motor imitation skills of children with ADHD, this is evidenced by the increase in the average gross motor imitation ability of the subjects from 15.9% to 86.3% after being intervened 30 sessions. The improvement in gross motor imitation skills involving the hands is getting better, but the subject had not been able to distinguish which one is right and left when not given a verbal command.

Abstract

As one of the human resources, children need guidance and a sense of security to ensure that the child's physical, spiritual and social growth as a whole is balanced and harmonious. To enforce this rule, the government enacted Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection, some of the provisions of which were amended by Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Amendments to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection. the presence of the State in protecting children certainly requires the participation of citizens in implementing the Child Protection Law as is the case with one of the districts that has formed the Regional Child Protection Commission (KPAD) in 2017, namely Tasikmalaya Regency. The role of the Regional Child Protection Commission (KPAD) is a form of participation forum for citizens as a preventive form of acts of violence against children which so far seems to be mushrooming in every room. The role of KPAD is very important to protect children's rights, guide, provide a sense of comfort and can reduce the number of violations of violence against children.

Abstract

Sports are activities that children really like when they are at school. Cheerful gymnastics is morning gymnastics accompanied by upbeat music, but the movements have been adapted to the songs the children like. This study aims to see the impact of learning achievement from implementing sports activities every morning at an elementary school in Surabaya. Sports activities are conveyed through videos to dyslexic children in a class with children without obstacles. Dyslexia is a child with difficulty in reading. Implementation is carried out every day for 6 months, observing the learning process and collecting learning outcomes in each subject for 6 months. The research subjects were 4D elementary school students at a private school in Surabaya. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method by describing in detail the condition of the students, the environment, and the conditions during learning. Achievement is seen by collecting valuable data from each lesson and comparing it to see the impact obtained after participating in sports activities every day for 6 months. The results are very significant. The number of students who get remedial during tests/exams is far less than the other 4th graders.

Abstract

It is important to teach students with intellectual disability about earthquake mitigation because they belong to vulnerable groups of earthquake threats. Qualified learning media is needed to train the earthquake mitigation ability of students with intellectual disability. This study aims to determine the improvement of earthquake mitigation ability using Earthquake Safety Tips mobile game of students with intellectual disability in Special School. The research design used a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design and used Wilcoxon matched pairs as an analysis method. The results showed there is increasing score from pre-test to post-test on each aspects of earthquake mitigation ability, which are cognitive, affective, and psychomotor ability. The hypothesis test shows that there is significant difference in cognitive ability which is 0,027 < 0,05, affective ability obtained 0,011 < 0,05, and psychomotor ability obtained 0,012 < 0,05. In conclusion, earthquake mitigation drill using Earthquake Safety Tips mobile game could improve the earthquake mitigation ability of students with intellectual disability in Special School.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the effect of Abata method implementation in improving the articulation ability on bilabial letters in the hearing impaired child of Abata Boarding School. In the beginning of assessment, it was found that the child performed the phoneme substitution on all bilabial letters (p-b-m-w), in which all bilabial letters were pronounced like the letter 'w' that was imperfect. This research used SSR (Single Subject Research) method and A-B-A (Applied Behaviour Analysis) design. The subject in this research was a hearing impaired child in class II of Abata Boarding School in Temanggung. The data collection technique was implemented using a test of articulation ability on bilabial letters and observation. The data analysis used in this research was descriptive statistics, through direct observation on graphic and table. Based on the data processing, the mean level percentages were 25% in the baseline-1 phase, 60% in the intervention phase, and 72.5% in the baseline-2 phase. Calculation of the overlapping percentage from baseline-1 phase to intervention phase was 0%. The research shows the result that the Abata method is capable of improving the articulation capability on bilabial letters in the hearing impaired child of Abata Boarding School.
