Abstract

This research aims to reveal typology of transformation of the Arabic meanings to the language of sex in the hadith. Such transformation of the meaning had developed dynamically and inconstantly from time to time (diachronic) due to the underlying context. This library research utilizes contextual semantic theory with language and historical approaches. The results show that the transformation of the meaning of sex language in the hadiths was influenced by several factors. First, historical, social and cultural contexts. There were several sexual behaviors in the prophetic era which were considered deviant (sexual deviation) because they were not in accordance with Arab social culture at that time, that was doggy style narrated by يجبّون and حوَّلتُ رحلي اللَّيلةَ structures, not missionary style جَلَسَ بَيْنَ شُعَبِهَا اَلْأرْبع. Second, emotive and psychological context by refining a word النيك / intercourse which later was translated into بُضْعُ / goods, يفضى/ irrigating, يلمس / touching. Third, linguistic context, it is not idiomatic, such as a word خاتم / sealing, which can change the the compilation meaning when the word is structured with other word as in the hadith لا تفتح الخاتم إلا بحقه. The word is a metaphor meaning of the 'virginity' term. Fourth, context of situations and conditions (Siyāq Mauqif-Hāl). This context explains that the ‘sex term’ can transform in meaning because it was conveyed in different situations and conditions with the euphemism and kināyah (metaphor) expressions, such asالنيك, الجماع, يجبون, الغيلة, سحاق, حولت رحلي البارحةand فتح الخاتم إلا بحقه.

Abstract

This research aims to extrapolate the weaknesses of students at SMP (Junior High School) Sadamiyyah-Jepara. The dictation test method is used to obtain data about error types of student answers.  Data analysis is carried out through two phases: identifying errors, and then searching for their source. The research found several problems facing students at SMP Sadamiyyah in writing dictated texts. The most important are those related to writing Arabic letters, understanding vocabulary, grammars, and the overall meaning of sentences used in the dictation process. One causes these problems is the nature of Arabic writing, and the other is due to their lack of listening and their weakness in Arabic. The sound varies with its symbols in some Arabic words, the proximity of the source of some letters also inherits the difficulty of distinguishing between them. In addition, the lack of vocabularies and grammars hinders the overall understanding of the meanings of sentences. Dictation is a test of arabic comprehensive ability. Therefore, improving students’ ability in the dictation requires a lot of language practices. Students' poor in dictation becomes a starting point for reforming the Arabic language education process integratively.

Abstract

Occasionally the number of fluent shahids cannot be a barometer in building the Nahwu Sharf rules, because it may be sima’i which cannot be practiced. Likewise, the form of syadz or anomaly that been formulated by nahwu experts is inversely propotional to the number of fluent texts as the main barometer of language rules so that in fact this form can be accepted qiyasi. This background encourage the author to conduct an in-dept study of the relationship of qiyas, sima’i on the side and the fluent texts and anomalous forms in the study of nahwu sharf on the other. The Author used manhaj mi’yari/ standard linguistic methode in this article by taking samples of anomalies pola in the Hasyiyah Sabban Syarh Asymuni’s book. After conducting a critical analysis through a thematic study of the form of anomalies in the nahwu sharf methode in the above book, the writer found that the justification of the nahwu sharf anomalies only focused on shahid/ tekxts whose source in unknown, this is consensus of the Basrah school of thought. The reinforced by fluent texts is not of the same degree. The form of this rule is not an anomaly because it comes from a fluent source that is a reference to the language rules, but it also cannot be made a standard for the formulation of the rules because ther is no general qiyas.

Abstract

The aim of learning Arabic for the Indonesian people is not only to understand religion. In fact, Arabic learning has undergone a change in orientation towards a more perfect direction. The purpose of this article is to understand (1) the orientation of Arabic learning in tertiary institutions, (2) models of transformation of Arabic learning in higher education based on a new orientation of Arabic learning. So far this aspect has not been paid attention to in existing studies. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive analysis model. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observation and documentation. Data were analyzed from the start of data collection, then data description and data reduction, then verification in detail. The results of this study indicate that there is a change in orientation in learning Arabic in Indonesian universities, which previously only oriented maharah qira'ah to understand religious texts, to become perfectly oriented to master the four language skills. A new transformation model is being carried out by several universities that teach Arabic, characterized by intensive learning using a modern curriculum and the availability of an appropriate language environment. In conclusion, it turns out that learning Arabic in Indonesia leads to a better direction if it is consistent with a new orientation and follows the development of language learning in other worlds.

Abstract

Albeit the studies on Matan Jurumiyah Book have been extensively conducted, few studies have been focusing on the critical content of Kitab Matan Jurumiyah. To fill the gap, this research aims to examine why Matan Jurumiyah Book is not applicable for novice Arabic learners. To collect the data, observation and in-depth interviews were conducted. The results of the study show that the material of the Matan Jurumiyah is not relevant to be used for the novice learners due to (1) the conciseness and condensation of the book contents, (2) the lackness of Arabic basic knowledge, (3) the raising of new problems for novice learners because of the number of syarah or explanation over the Book of Matan Jurumiyah.  That empirical evidence was anchored to the internal and external factors. Internal factors are closely related to the dichotomy of syntax and morphology while external factors are related to the absence of consideration of the Indonesian context and are arranged in a deductive way. Therefore, this study recommends empirical, contextual, and policy implications for the readers.

Abstract

This current research departs from concerns over the conventional Arabic teaching in the salaf pesantren (Islamic boarding school) which is not in accordance with the Arabic teaching curriculum for foreign language speakers. It aims to find out the right steps to design the curriculum so that objectives of Arabic learning can be achieved. Using a qualitative approach with a multi-case design, this study took place in three salaf pesantrens in Java, namely Pesantren As-Salafi of Ciwaringin West Java, Pesantren Al-Hikmah 2 of Benda Central Java, and Pesantren HM Al-Mahrusiyah of Lirboyo East Java. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation review. The study found that although, in general, the Arabic curriculum in the three salaf pesantren was quite suitable with the Arabic teaching curriculum for foreign language speakers, the right steps in designing the curriculum were still needed. First, the four language skills must receive good attention, especially the speaking skills considering the main function of language as a means of communication. Second, the curriculum material must contain three language competencies, i.e. the linguistic aspect, the function of language as a communication tool, and the cultural aspect. Third, the learning system needs to use a combination of several methods by considering the learning objectives, the material characteristics, the students' ability, and even the teachers’ condition. Fourth, modern learning media such as language laboratories need to be pursued because almost all the main objectives of language teaching can be carried out in such laboratories. Fifth, the evaluation of language learning must include mastery of linguistics and communication.

Abstract

TikTok has once been seen bad by the public and even banned by the Indonesian government. The advantage of TikTok applications, one of which is a medium of Project-Based Learning, is, thus, a challenge to gain. This paper aims to describe the use of the TikTok application as a medium for Arabic language learning through Project-Based Learning on vocabulary material carried out at Madrasah Aliyah Nahdlatul Wathan (MA NW) Pringgasela and to reveal students' perspectives regarding this matter. This paper is packaged with a qualitative descriptive approach, while data collection is through observation and interviews. The data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman model, i.e. reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. This study concludes that using the TikTok application as a learning medium can be an innovation in Arabic learning. The strengths felt by students include: learning becomes more exciting and less boring, students get new experiences, students become more active, and it is easy to memorize the vocabulary they learn. The study also finds that the drawbacks of this application are that it takes a long time in the manufacturing process, requires an internet connection, and the lack of teacher supervision in using the TikTok application outside of school.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the vernacularization process of Arabic grammar by studying the books that discuss the nahwu-sharaf rules translated by KH. Ahmad Muthahar of Mranggen Demak. There are several reasons that made KH. Ahmad Muthahar translate a lot of Arabic grammar books. These include: book writing movement was an academic culture that had long been built by Arab scholars and scholars of the Archipelago, to maintain and preserve the Javanese language literature written in the Pegon script, and to make it easier for the santris (students of the pesantren) and the public to learn the rules of Arabic. The sociolinguistics approach is used for this study. This study is a library research, the data of which were collected through listening, surveying and note-taking method. The data were analyzed for their content (content analysis). The study found that KH. Ahmad Muthahar’s efforts to vernacularize the Arabic grammar in his books include: vernacularization of the grammatical symbols in order to understand text structure, vernacularization of the I’rab narration, vernacularization of the particles of the Arabic letters, localizing the change of meanings caused by changes of word forms (morphology).
