Abstract

Background: Giant cell tumor (GCT) is a relatively rare type of primary benign bone tumor, characterized by multinucleated giant cells resembling osteoclasts. Treatment of GCT with intralesional resection and bone cement filling, especially in tumors that develop around the knee joint. After GCT surgery around the knee joint, in general, patients will experience several symptoms such as pain in the operating area and surrounding structures, limited range of motion, then symptoms that are quite worrying, namely related to the ability of knee function in the future. The role of physiotherapy after GCT surgery around the knee joint, especially the distal anterolateral part of the femur, was stated to be able to restore the functional ability of the knee without limitations. Case Description: A 24-year-old male employee of the laboratory analysis division of Udayana University Hospital was diagnosed with GCT in the distal right femur. The diagnosis was made on September 30, 2021, using a biopsy with bone, joint, and articular cartilage specimens of the distal right femur. The patient underwent intralesional resection surgery, bone cement filling, and internal fixation of the distal femur in November 2021. Postoperatively the patient complained of pain in the posterior and medial distal right thigh, as well as limitations when bending the right knee. In addition, the patient also admitted to having difficulty doing squat movements. Conclusion: Patients experienced an improvement in their symptoms after carrying out 7 physiotherapy sessions for 3 weeks. However, the patient still needs further exercise so that the walking pattern can show better development.

Abstract

Background: Achilles tendinopathy is a clinical condition characterized by local pain, swelling in and around the Achilles tendon, and impaired function due to overuse or intrinsic factors such as being overweight. This disorder is often found in individuals who participate in physical activities such as running and jumping. Pain is felt during activity and subsides after rest, but if this continues, the pain may persist even at rest resulting in further decreased performance. Physiotherapy interventions for managing Achilles tendinopathy are quite varied, starting from the application of modalities and exercise and manual therapy.   Objective: To determine the effectiveness of physiotherapy intervention in Achilles tendinopathy.   Methods: The method in this study is a literature review or literature review using secondary data in the form of a review of research articles related to the effectiveness of physiotherapy interventions in Achilles tendinopathy through the search engines google scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct.   Results: Several studies have shown that physiotherapy interventions, except for low-level laser therapy (LLLT), effectively reduce symptoms of Achilles tendinopathy.   Conclusion: Physiotherapy interventions such as eccentric exercise and a combination of eccentric exercise with soft tissue treatment, pressure massage, and ESWT are effective in reducing symptoms in patients with Achilles tendinopathy.

Abstract

Background: Lateral epicondylitis, commonly called “tennis elbow”, is an overuse injury to the wrist extensor that causes inflammation resulting in degenerative changes such as tendinosis and micro-teared (small tears) in the fibrous tissue. The risk of lateral epicondylitis is highest in workers who lift heavy weights and workers whose work requires repetitive movements of the wrist extensors. Degenerative factors are also one of the factors that can affect the development of lateral epicondylitis. From Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans of 369 patients without clinical complaints of lateral epicondylitis, MRI signs consistent with lateral epicondylitis were seen in 5.7% of individuals in the 18-30 years age group and 16% in individuals over 70 years of age. Objective: The purpose of this study is to summarize secondary data related to interventions that can be applied to cases of lateral epicondylitis. Methods: The study method used is a literature study using secondary data in journals related to physiotherapy management in cases of lateral epicondylitis obtained through Google Scholar, Science Direct, and PubMed. Results: Several studies have shown various interventions can be applied to overcome the problems experienced by patients with lateral epicondylitis and provide good results in overcoming pain and gripping muscle weakness. Conclusion: Several interventions can be given to overcome the problems experienced by lateral epicondylitis patients, such as Cyriax, low-level laser therapy, mulligan mobilization with movement, ultrasound, eccentric exercise, concentric exercise, and kinesiotaping. Based on the literature review results, it can be concluded that these interventions can have a good effect in overcoming complaints experienced by patients with lateral epicondylitis.

Abstract

Background: Meniscus injury is one of the most common knee injuries in the orthopedic field. This injury often occurs in sports that involve rotating movements, squats/excessive knee joint flexion such as in basketball, soccer or badminton. The medial meniscus is injured more often than the lateral meniscus, and this is due to the tight attachment of the meniscus to the medial collateral ligament of the knee joint, which limits its movement. Injury occurs when the femur rotates about the tibia, or the tibia against the femur, with the knee joint slightly flexed and supporting body weight.   Objective: This study aims to summarize secondary data related to meniscus injuries.   Methods: The research method used was a literature study using secondary data in the form of journals related to the topic of meniscus injury obtained through Google Scholar, Science Direct, and PubMed.   Results: Several studies have shown that someone with a knee injury can be given physiotherapy intervention in the form of exercise that is tailored to the symptoms experienced.   Conclusion: Based on the results of a literature review, neuromuscular and strengthening exercises, Mulligan's squeeze technique with conventional therapy, open and closed kinematic chain and education can improve symptoms after meniscus injury.
