Abstract

As the country's largest palm oil producer in the world, Indonesian palm oil production is still encounter political barriers or non-tariff economy of several countries. Sustainable development policies have a role to overcome these obstacles. The research problem is how to build policies through the performance based risk assessment for sustainable palm oil supply chain in Indonesia. The research objective is to recommend policies that supported by performance-based risk assessment models for sustainable palm oil supply chain in Indonesia. Performance-based risk assessment algorithms have been developed and verified in a comprehensive manner. Model verification is conducted by analyzing the performance of crude palm oil supply chain based on expert’s analysis. This study has obtained the necessary indicators to assess the risk based on performance of sustainable crude palm oil supply chain. Model application has shown that risk level of sustainable crude palm oil in Indonesia relating to economics, environmental, and social aspects are moderate, respectively. However, there are some indicators that need to be considered with the level of risk is quite high, namely demand rate, quality of palm oil, timelines of product delivery, availability of crude palm oil and bullwhip effect. This paper has recommended some policies to address those risks.

Abstract

Voluminous studies have examined the relationship between foreign ownership and firm productivity. Two general patterns emerge at the empirical level: they are essentially correlational and results are mixed. This paper estimates the causal effect of foreign presence on a variety of productivity measures. We rely on a selection on observables approach based on the idea that all variables that influence foreign ownership status and firm productivity are fully captured by the available control variables, eliminating the problem of selection bias. Using firm-level data from three ASEAN countries, the study finds that productivity of foreign-owned firms is consistently above that of domestically-owned firms regardless of different productivity measures and types of matching algorithms. This result suggests to a large extent the benefits of foreign participation in the economy.

Abstract

This paper describes the application of Value Stream Mapping to identify the waste in cement-package industry on PT IHSG. The Value Stream Mapping is used to map the activity towards the company's supply chain with the result that the non-value adding activity could be identified. The result will be an important fundament for identifying the defect and time. The effort for identifying the company's improvement meet the problem priority and it has a significant impact so that the time and cost consuming could be avoided. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Paper ini menggambarkan bagaimana aplikasi pemetaan aliran nilai dapat mengidentifikasi waste pada industri kemasan semen. Pemetaan aliran nilai digunakan untuk memetakan aktivitas pada rantai pasok perusahaan sehingga aktivitas yang tidak bernilai tambah dapat diketahui. Hasil pemetaan akan menjadi landasan penting didalam mengetahui cacat dan waktu tunggu. Upaya untuk mengidentifikasi perbaikan perusahaan sesuai dengan masalah prioritas yang ada dan memiliki dampak yang signifikan sehingga tidak terjadi pemborosan biaya dan waktu program perbaikan. Kata kunci: pemetaan aliran nilai, industri kemasan semen, waste.

Abstract

Because of technological advancements and the popularity of the Internet, online shopping has become an important shopping channel for consumers. Because people increasingly eat out, more consumers shop online, and food products are collected from convenience stores, or frozen food home delivery services are used. This study used questionnaire surveys to analyze the consumption habits of residents who shop online for frozen foods in the urban areas of northern Taiwan (Taipei City and New Taipei City). We distributed and collected 548 questionnaires, of which 484 were valid. Descriptive statistics, a chi-square test, and logistics regression analysis were used to analyze consumer characteristics, as well as important influential factors. The research results indicated that most online shoppers were women, and the top 3 factors influencing their purchasing decisions were freshness, delivery convenience, and ordering convenience. Participants in the age group of 40-49 years old, living in the urban area of New Taipei City, without junior college education, and with less than 10,000 NTD monthly incomes, were less likely to purchase frozen foods using low-temperature logistics services.

Abstract

This paper discusses the multiple jobs scheduling problem with simultaneous resources. The problem involves one or more jobs with each job consist of a set of operations. Each operation is performed by more than one resource simultaneously. Number of units of each resource used for performing an operation is one or more units. The problem deals with determining a schedule of operations minimizing total weighted tardiness. In this paper, solution techniques based on Lagrangian relaxation are proposed. In general, the Lagrangian relaxation technique consists of three parts run iteratively, i.e., (1) solving individual job problems, (2) obtaining a feasible solution, and (3) solving a Lagrangian dual problem. For solving the individual job problems, two approaches are applied, i.e., enumeration and dynamic program¬ming. In this paper, the Lagrangian relaxation technique using the enumeration and dynamic programming approaches are called RL1 and RL2, respectively. The solution techniques proposed are examined using a set of hypothetical instances. Numerical experiments are carried out to compare the performance of RL1, RL2, and two others solution techniques (optimal and genetic algorithm techniques). Numerical experiments show that RL2 is more efficient than RL1. In terms of the solution quality, it is shown that RL2 gives same results compared to the optimal technique and genetic algorithm. However, both RL2 and genetic algorithm can handle larger problems efficiently.

Abstract

It has always been a great challenge to any product development team to forecast the success of a new product at the design stage. For any product concept, it is of interest to assign an accurate probability to any event or state of the world that reflects the new product success. This probability is then required in decision tree analysis for selecting the best product concept. In practice, the probability is determined solely on intuition or subjective judgment due to impreciseness, lack of information during the design stage, and the cognitive limitation of decision makers. This paper presents an approach integrating fuzzy set theory and multi criteria decision making (MCDM) approach in forecasting accurately the success of a new product. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is used due to its simplicity as a prescriptive approach that will help decision makers select the best decision with respect to a set of criteria. Fuzzy numbers are used to describe any judgment on design criteria and the event probability of a product concept. A numerical example is given to illustrate the use of this approach. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Selalu menjadi tantangan besar bagi setiap tim pengembang produk untuk dapat mengestimasi tingkat kesuksesan suatu produk baru pada tahap desain. Tingkat kesuksesan yang dinyatakan dengan besar probabilitas berbagai state of the world dari suatu konsep produk selanjutnya digunakan dalam analisa keputusan untuk memilih konsep produk terlayak. Selama ini besar probabilitas ditentukan lebih banyak berdasarkan intuisi dan subyektifitas pengambil keputusan. Praktik ini cenderung menghasilkan keputusan yang bias mengingat keterbatasan kapabilitas kognitif manusia dalam mensintesa berbagai keunggulan maupun kekurangan dari sekumpulan konsep produk. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk menyampaikan satu pendekatan yang mengintegrasikan logika fuzzy dan pendekatan pengambilan keputusan berkriteria jamak (multi criteria decision making /MCDM) dalam menentukan tingkat kesuksesan suatu konsep produk yang lebih akurat. MCDM digunakan karena pada dasarnya problem pemilihan konsep produk terbaik selalu mempertimbangkan sekumpulan kriteria. Pendekatan analitic hierarchy process (AHP) dipilih karena pendekatan ini menawarkan perspektif preskriptif yang akan menuntun pengambil keputusan untuk melakukan apa yang sebaiknya dan dapat dilakukan dalam membuat keputusan. Bilangan fuzzy digunakan untuk merepresentasikan penilaian terhadap berbagai kriteria dan besar kemungkinan dari berbagai tingkat kesuksesan suatu produk. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan Fuzzy - MCDM, tingkat kesuksesan dari suatu konsep produk akan diperoleh dengan lebih akurat dan dapat dipertanggungjawabkan untuk sesuatu yang sulit dilakukan bila pengambilan keputusan lebih didasari intuisi dan subyektifitas semata. Sebuah contoh numerik disampaikan untuk menerangkan penggunaan pendekatan ini. Kata kunci: bilangan fuzzy, MCDM, AHP, konsep produk baru.

Abstract

This paper discusses a vehicle routing problem with multiple trips, time windows, and simultaneous delivery-pickup (VRPMTTWSDP). This problem is a variant of the basic vehicle routing problem (VRP) including the following characteristics: multiple trips, time windows, and simultaneous delivery-pickup.  In this paper, a solution approach based on tabu search (TS) is proposed. In the proposed TS, the sequential insertion (SI) algorithm is used to construct an initial solution. A neighbor structure is generated by applying an operator order consisting of eleven operators of relocation, exchange, and crossover operators. A tabu solution code (TSC) method is applied as a tabu restriction mechanism. Computational experiments are carried out to examine the performance of the proposed TS using hypothetical instances. The performance of the proposed TS is compared to the local search (LS) and the genetic algorithm (GA). The comparison shows that the proposed TS is better in terms of the objective function value.

Abstract

Production plants of a company are located in several areas that spread across Middle and East Java. As the production process employs mostly manpower, we suspected that each location has different characteristics affecting the productivity. Thus, the production data may have a spatial and hierarchical structure. For fitting a linear regression using the ordinary techniques, we are required to make some assumptions about the nature of the residuals i.e. independent, identically and normally distributed. However, these assumptions were rarely fulfilled especially for data that have a spatial and hierarchical structure. We worked out the problem using mixed effect model. This paper discusses the model construction of productivity and several characteristics in the production line by taking location as a random effect. The simple model with high utility that satisfies the necessary regression assumptions was built using a free statistic software R version 2.6.1.

Abstract

Flow shop scheduling problem is to schedule a production process of n jobs that go through the same process sequence and the same m machines. Most researches are don to accomplish only one objective, i.e. minimizing makespan. The other objective, such as total flow time, or multiple objectives that is minimizing makespan, total flow time and machine idle time, will be more effective in reducing scheduling cost, as written in French (1982). Rajendran algorithm (1995) that solves flow shop problem with multiple objectives will be used to evaluate the proposed algorithm: Genetic Algorithm, developed by Sridhar & Rajendran (1996) on a problem that existed in a shoe factory. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Masalah penjadualan flow shop adalah menjadualkan proses produksi dari masing-masing n job yang mempunyai urutan proses produksi dan melalui m mesin yang sama. Kebanyakan penelitian hanya mengacu pada satu tujuan saja yaitu meminimumkan makespan. Tujuan yang lain, seperti meminimumkan total flow time atau multiple objectives yang meminimumkan makespan, total flow time dan machine idle time akan lebih efektif dalam mengurangi biaya penjadualan, sebagaimana dikatakan oleh French (1982). Algoritma Rajendran (1995) yang menyelesaikan masalah flow shop dengan multiple objectives akan dipergunakan untuk mengevaluasi algoritma usulan: Algoritma Genetika, yang dikembangkan oleh Sridhar & Rajendran (1996) pada suatu masalah yang ditemui di suatu perusahaan sepatu. Abstract

This study is inspired by a batch scheduling problem in metal working industry which guarantees to satisfy a due date as a commitment to customers. Actual flowtime adopts the backward scheduling approach and considers the due date. Using the actual flowtime as the objective means that the solution  is oriented to satisfy the due date, and simultaneosly to minimize the length of time of the parts spending in the shop. This research is to address a problem of scheduling batches consisting of multiple items of parts processed on a batch processor where the completed parts must be delivered several time at different due dates. We propose an algorithm to solve the problem.
