Abstract

The article describes that the practice of exorcism in the Catholic Church is very rare. However, when the presence of Satan or Demon appears clearly in attacking human life and deforming it physically, it is considered acceptable that exorcism has to be put into practise. The writer argues that in the Catholic Church any case of exorcism must pass through a meticuluous and extra examination. An exorcist has also to follow a strict regulation of the Church and be equipped with special trainings; otherwise he or she could be severely sanctioned. On the other hand, the Church has to remain vigilant to face any dark forces with Christian faith in the power of Jesus Christ as well as to the rationality of our today’s modern world.

Abstract

The focus of this article is to trace the hierophany vision behind the Ngibau (rice raising) narrative of the Dayak Peruan tribe of West Kalimantan. The narrative of raising rice of Dayak Peruan tribe, like many other narratives, is full of meaning. The depiction of raising rice is like a child who goes overseas by sailing the sea, facing tidal waves, until he returns to his homeland bringing with him the valuables stuffs that have been ordered by his parents to him. To open up the full of its meaning, the writer uses Mircea Eliade’s theory on hierophany of sacred realities.

Abstract

The focus of this research study is Islamophobia in the West. The writers argue that harmony among religious communities is the noble ideal of many people. In trying to make it happens, there are always challenges trying to hinder it. Islamophobia is one such challenge. The methodology used in this study is qualitative and field studies. We use literature and interview methods to obtain information related to the theme of Islamophobia in the West. This study found that religion is a peacemaker. Beyond that is not what flows from religion. All forms of violence and discriminatory actions are not existential causes of religion. Religion never teaches violence. The study concludes that Islamophobia is a form of deviation that must be eliminated.

Abstract

This study pays attention to the stories or discussions that shape the peaceful encounters and relations between Islam and Christianity. Historically these two Abrahamic religions have been in conflict and neglected peace building. The methodology used in this research is interviews with several academics. The results are translated into published sources or important documents from both sides (Islam and Christianity). Based on the recommendations and analyzes of academics and from existing documents, it was found that the leaders of the two religions had tried to live in peace with concrete actions. Through their respective leaders today, these two major religions want a relationship and cooperation based on the law of love. Relationships can be built by knowing each other’s teachings properly and being open to accepting each other’s differences. To live together in diversity in this country (Indonesia), the authors feel the urgency to carry out a constructive inclusive dialogue.

Abstract

Jihad is an obligation for all Muslims according to their respective abilities, but jihad has often been misinterpreted as war. The jihad ordered in the Qur’an is not limited to jihad in the meaning of war, but includes many other meanings. Jihad in the Mecca period was carried out not with war, but by devoting all abilities to face the polytheists with sentences that touched reason and heart because they saw the situation and condition of Muslims who were still weak and did not have physical strength. Meanwhile, jihad in the Medina period tended to be interpreted as ‘war’, namely the efforts of the Muslims to retaliate against the attacks aimed at them. In the Indonesian context, jihad is more interpreted as lust jihad, namely fighting the lusts that exist within oneself and also maintaining the noble national values.

Abstract

In this paper, the author focuses on the theme of the discussion about faith and culture, especially the Ti’i ka culture of the Nagekeo community, Flores. For the author, true faith is a personal human relationship with God in such a way that it brings people into ecclesiastical communion. In this community people unite and gather to live and celebrate faith through common prayers and various rituals involving all members of the Church. The author assumes that all this does not just happen. It all starts with the proclamation of faith. In that proclamation, the cultural factor of the local community becomes important so that the faith can be well accepted by the local community. To explore this theme, the writer uses the method of critical reading and observation. Through this paper the writer wants to convey a message that faith must be entrenched. Faith that has been entrenched will become a unified whole that can create a socio-religious habitus that cannot be separated from the daily life of the local community.

Abstract

Focus of this study is to discuss “Pandemic and the meaning of the Eucharist, a theological review according to Berthold Anton Pareira and its contribution to Catholics who celebrate it in the form of live streaming amid covid 19.” The Eucharist celebrates mystery. That is what the Church stated succinctly, densely and majestically after the consecration. This cry was answered aloud by the people “We declare your death, glorify Your resurrection, until You come.” Other exclamations in this celebration such as “The gospel of God, etc. have all plunged us into mystery. We are led into the Spirit of Christ. He animates and heals us. The Eucharist forms the Church which is ushered to life by mystery. This study aims to what extent the experience of the faithful celebrating the Eucharist in the form of live streaming in the midst of the Covid 19 situation. The methodology used is the phenomenological method of experiencing the reality of the faithful. This study found, first, the Eucharist as the breath of life for believers. Second eucharists are a form of solidarity. Third, the Eucharist is the home of true brotherhood.
