The article tries to argue the so-called three philosophical values of life ofthe Toba people (Batak Toba people) of North Sumatra. These three philosophicaldimensions, namely hamoraon (wealth), hagabeon (discendant) andhasangapon (honour), are regarded powerfully determine the people’s character.Throughout their life, the people are strongly influenced by as well asdirected their own life to achieve the three fundamental values. Abstract

The article argues that faith speaks aloud only when it involves deeply into every human experience. Faith does not come out of nor descends from heaven. It exists precisely within human life. Only when it speaks in the language and logic of the people, it produces a lot of fruits. With this consideration the writer tries to reflect theologically issues on feminism as they are reported in the daily Jawa Pos newspaper, particularly in its three Radars, namely Radar Malang, Radar Kanjuruhan, and Radar Batu during the period of August and September 2015. He, then, found out the face of the Greater Malang as charming and beautiful, reflecting Ken Dedes (13th century), the pretty and superior Queen of Singhasari Kingdom, mother of the kings of Java. As the Greater Malang is naturally beautiful and alluring as the Queen Ken Dedes so does faith of Christianity. The local Church is called to live out the faith in accordance with the charming nature of Malang and to present herself in a motherly way for all.

Abstract

Anger inhabits every human being. There is no peace in anger. Anger tends to violence. And every outrage has a certain reason. There is a cause and effect in every rage. Angry people have basic. Anger is surely a failure in using correctly the rational and moral agent. It is not in harmony with the ideals of human life (Stoa) about “life must be in conformity with nature”. A consistent, harmonious, virtuous, and happy life should be the full expression in the development of human life; and it will be marked by action which makes sense when judged by the standards of nature. Anger could happen due to passions which come after an experience. Other words for passion are phobos (fear), epithumia (passion) and lupe (pain or wound). Passions cannot occur unless the moral agent gives ways to the idea that a particular action is reasonable. Anger is not in harmony with nature, because it is an intellectual error in interpreting the values. This paper wants to explain what anger is and how its process goes on. The writer tries to contribute in promoting the development of people towards their perfection.

Abstract

The current article intends to discuss that human being sees war as inevitable reality in life. When human being wants to survive, he/she will fight for his/ her life. Sometimes, war is considered to be the final way to survive. People make war as factual reality, but do they really want to fight in war? On the progress, people constitute rule of war or war ethics. A true rule is an embodiment of hope to prevent worse damages caused by war. Love is the prior value in living a humane life. Human being expects more love. Humankind have made many deals to avoid war as far as possible. War is not necessary if there is another stronger value to influence people’s life.

Abstract

Abstract

The present article discusses the grave ecological disaster we are facing today, such as drought, flood, typhoon, deforestization, desertification, polution of water-air-land, and the like, which is called an ‘ecozoic period’. It means a terminal of the history of the earth, which has put humanity at the cross-road, either choosing to act or letting all perish. The writer, on the one hand, acknowledges that scientific datas have helped people to comprehend better the ecological crisis. On the other hand, he also underlines that faiths and religious convictions have provided people inspirations and motivations to handle the problems. The crucial question then is: “What is the contribution of the Christian faith, particularly the universal salvation in Jesus Christ, to respond this ecological crisis and the crisis of life resources?” The writer is convinced that Christian faith –theology of creation, incarnation, cross, and resurrection– has enhanced the believers to involve and participate in safeguarding the earth. This faith has surely ethical implications, such as the spiritual, socio-cultural, and political dimensions or contemplation, ecological asceticism, and prophetical voices. These three ethical implications could reinforce the solid social movement toward a serious ecological conversion.

Abstract

God is present in all things. The presence of God is understood by human beings in their own ways. A human manner that understands the presence of God can be found in the role of angels. An angel is a real embodiment of the presence of God. Certainly, the presence of God requires instruments or ways to understand. The instrument or medium can be found in the angel itself, because the angel exists in human being as “The way of Representation” of God. To understand the presence of God through the role of an angel is still actual. It is still actual, because the role of an angel gives the answer to show virtues or values and examplar lives. An angel who is presenting a representative image is understood on its existence through human prayer and faith. Only in prayer and faith the meaning of God’s presence in an angel can be easier perceived by men and women of faith in their daily life.

Abstract

Currently, along with the progress of information technology, we find everywhere advertisements: whether on the roads, at workplaces, schools, or at homes. The images of the advertisements that we see may remain in our subconscious and they unconsciously and gently “persuade” us to take up their messages. They could have good effects if their messages conveythe common good. On the contrary, they could cause bad effects since their messages imply certain interests of particular destructive groups. As human creatures who have free will, we can choose not to let our desires be the sort of “game” of those who produce advertisements or choose to conform freely our greed.

Abstract

Community life, taking the model of an Action-Reflection-Integration-Action dialogue within the socio-psychological perspective, explains and comprehends every individual in its personal complementarity, environment, and social actual context. Each action is reflected based upon its adaptation to the sources and happenings, which produces a new mission based on invention of sources and possibilities exist within the social network, creating conditions for raising potentials in empowering the present sources. The article argues that every missionary has become part of the event. It is precisely one of the requirements of religious life in today’s world. It is needed the power for controlling the various cultural and environmental transformation for sharpening the vision, new interpretation, respect, and intervention in the technoscientific inovation. Therefore, comprehension in controling technology might be managed as means and method of evangelization.
