Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explore aspects of discourse analysis through Van Dijk's approach to folklore. This folklore contains many educational values, ethics, norms as well as socio-cultural aspects. For the analysis of discourse on folklore, the Van Dijk model, which emphasizes elements of critical discourse, was used (Critical Discourse Analysis). This research is library research by using the naturalistic approach with Van Dijk model analysis. The result of this research was the aspects analyzed of macrostructure and microstructure. The macro structure is thematic and schematic. The element analyzed the essence of the theme of the discourse. That is morality (admirable nature) or “good morality”. In the micro structure analyzed aspects of semantic, syntax, stylictic, and rethoric. In semantic aspect analyzed conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, social meaning, affective meaning, reflective meaning, collocative meaning and thematic meaning.

Abstract

This research aimed to explain about hot the news was constructed by reporter and also how media institution ideology and the narration an issue spread to public affect to the characteristic of certain news. The object of the research was five news about Formula E posted by online news portal, VOI where the tittles were: “A Condition That Must Be Fulfilled By Formula E If You Want To Get Support From PDIP,” “Sahroni Sindir No BUMN Sponsors Formula E: Sorry, BUMN Is Part Of The Republic Of Indonesia, Right?,” “Erick Thohir Reluctant to Comment on BUMN Not Sponsoring Formula E, Arya Sinulingga Gives Comprehensive Explanation,“ “Anies Baswedan: Formula E Has No Handlers!,” and ”Formula E Tickets Sold Out Ahmad Sahroni, Denny Siregar: There Must Be Saved Faces to be Nominated In 2024.” This research used critical discourse analysis in analyzing the texts through using Van Dijk’s theory. Van Dijk’s model focused on the text, social cognition and social context analysis. The result revealed that most of VOI news about Formula E is presented in political perspective and in presenting the news about Formula E, despite of had dynamic characteristic in particular perspective either the central government who represented by BUMN or Formula E committee and Anies Baswedan as Governor of DKI Jakarta, but VOI tend to bias in presenting particular person and group.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the benefits and challenges of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) in the development of students’ speaking ability in Indonesian Secondary School Context. This study used comprehensive literature review from various sources. From the discussion, it is informed that TBLT is useful to increase English speaking competence of students. Firstly, TBLT is applicable to fosters students’ oral fluency. Secondly, TBLT can improves the speaking accuracy of students. Thirdly, TBLT helps students to enhance their speaking confidence. However, several challenges need to be addressed by the English teachers in order to use TBLT effectively. The finding of this study provides valuable literature for English teachers in Indonesia regarding the use (benefits and challenges) of TBLT to teach speaking skill.

Abstract

This study refers to the use of speech functions in English classroom interaction. The writer considers what types of speech function in English classroom interaction are important to be analyzed to know how the speech function is used in mentor-student classroom interaction and to show the most dominant types of speech function used in classroom interaction. The type of research used in this study used a qualitative descriptive approach. The research instruments were observation (non-participant observers) and interviews. The data analysis method used in this study refers to the theory of Miles and Huberman. Based on the results of the research, this study is that by analyzing the speech function used by English mentors during teaching, the researcher found the fact that James Holmes' theory of speech function has 6 namely expressive, directive, referential, metalinguistic, Phatic, and poetic. However, after this research was conducted, not all elements of the speech function were used by English mentors. The researchers could only figure out five of six kinds of speech functions. They are expressive, directive, referential, metalinguistic, and Phatic. So, the researchers found that English mentors were more dominant in using Expressive utterances, which was 36%.

Abstract

This research sets the goal to identify and document the resources supporting the success of the 2013 curriculum at SMKN 2 Sinjai and to question these contributions based on empirical facts. There are many factors and even cases related to various supporting resources, but in different contexts and places. Qualitative data were collected descriptively-exploratively as an option to see events in objects. The criteria for contributing informants were principals, related teachers and other educators and were selected by purposive sampling. Interview, observation and document review techniques were combined to obtain data and ensured validity through triangulation techniques. The collected data was then analyzed by identified, grouped, verified, synthesized, and compared. Interpretive analysis reveals that various factors and resources have contributed to the success of the learning curriculum such as representative facilities and infrastructure, managerial principals, resource competence and educator collaboration, educator learning management, utilization of learning resources, and use of learning strategies and models. These findings can contribute and have implications for the management of educational curriculum implementation and in different educational institutions.

Abstract

Cup stacking games allows the equal opportunities to each student to speak up during the classroom. Thus, the present study is to improve the students' speaking ability in by utilizing Cup stacking games. This study applied classroom action research which was conducted in four stages; planning, action, observation, and reflection. A total of 22 students in eleventh grade of SMAN 6 Luwu is the subject of speaking tests and observation.. The results of data analysis showed a significant improvement in students' speaking abilities until the second cycle. speaking test in cycle 2, there are 80 % of students reach 3.1-4.0 score categorized as good. In addition, the observation of cycle 2 showed that there are 75% of students got good criteria in class participation. Both of these criteria indicated that utilizing the cup stacking games can boost the students' speaking ability.
