Abstract

Effectiveness of Neem Extract in Controlling Armyworm (Spodoptera Litura F.) in  Lettuce Alfian Rusdy Fakultas Pertanian Unsyiah, Darussalam Banda Aceh ABSTRACT  Research objectives were to evaluate effectiveness of seed and leaf neem extracts at various concentrations in controlling armyworm in lettuce. Experimental design used was factorial completely randomized design, consisting of eight combinations of treatment with three replications. Factors examined were firstly neem extract of seed and leaf and secondly concentration of the neem extracts, which consists of four levels for each of the 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%.  Variables observed were mortality, percentage of pupa, percentage of imago, and intensity of damaged plants.   Results showed that use of seed and leaf extracts of neem plant can control armyworm (Spodoptera litura F.) in lettuce plants. Seed extract was more toxic than leaf extract of neem. The most effective concentration was 20 cc/100 ml solution (20%), followed by 15 cc (15%), 10 cc (10%), and 5 cc (5%).

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to evaluate the influence of some types of soil ameliorans (lime, sea mud and some types of soil microorganisms) on P nutrient and soybean root development in peat soil.  The experiment was carried out in the Greenhouse of Agriculture Faculty of USU, Soil Biology Laboratory, Central Laboratory of Agriculture Faculty of USU and Laboratory of Soil analysis at RISPA, from March to November 2011.  The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design, consisted of 13 treatments and two replicates. The treatments included control, dolomite lime, sea mud, lime + sea mud, Bradyrhizobium, mos, Mycorrhizal isolate of peat soil, mycorrhizal isolate of mineral soil, Bradyrhizobium + mos, mos + mycorrhizal isolate of peat soil isolates, mos + mineral soil mycorrhizal isolate, Bradyrhizobium + mos + mycorrhizal isolate of peat soil, Bradyrhizobium + mos + mycorrhizal isolate of mineral soil. Variables observed included soil pH, soil P available, plant P uptake, and weight of root dry. Types of amelioran exerted significant effect on soil pH, but did not exert significant effects on soil P available,  plant P uptake, and weight of dry root.

Abstract

        The study was aimed at determining responses of several sweet corn varieties to organic and inorganic fertilizers on tsunami affected land and knowing interactions between both factors on growth and yield of sweet corn. The experiment was conducted in Village of Lampuuk, Lhoknga, District of Aceh Besar, from January 7 to March 19, 2008. This research was conducted using a randomized complete block design (RCBD), 3 x 3 with 3 replications. There were two factors studied, namely fertilizations, consisting of 3 levels: 100% organic fertilizer, 50% organic fertilizer + 50% inorganic fertilizers and 100% inorganic fertilizers. The second factor was varieties, consisting of 3 levels: Sweet Boy, Hawaiian Sweet Corn Hybrid F1 and Super Bee. The results showed that fertilization significantly affected ear weight with and without cornhusk, but did not affect diameter of ear and seed rows per ear. The highest result was found at a treatment of 50% organic fertilizer + 50% inorganic fertilizers, but was not significantly different from 100% organic fertilizer. Varieties showed no significant effects on all variables observed.  There were significant interactions between fertilizations and varieties on plant height at age 42 and 63 day after planting (DAP), leaf length at age 21, 42, and 63 DAP, and root fresh weight at age 21 DAP.  The best plant growth was found at a combination of Sweet Boy   and 50% organic fertilizer + 50% inorganic fertilizer.

Abstract

Land Suitability for Horticultural Crops on Areal of Ex-Peat Swamp Forest of Nagan Raya Districts, Aceh Province Abstract. The conversion of peat swamp forests into farmlands can potentially change the soil’s characteristics and morphology, which in turn will affect land suitability. This research was performed to assess the land suitability level for the development of horticultural crops in a former peat swamp forest area which covers an area of 2732,12 ha in Darul Makmur Sub-district, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh Province. The research was conducted using the descriptive method through ground surveys and laboratory analyses. The land suitability for horticultural crops evaluation was accomplished using the FAO criteria, which is matching between the land criteria and growing requirements for each horticultural crop. The evaluated lands were grouped into five homogeneous land units (HLU). The results indicated that every former peat swamp forest that has been converted into farmland had a land suitability level of S3, wa (marginally suitable) for several horticultural crops, such as pineapples, melons, eggplants, tomatoes, spinaches, red chili peppers, cucumbers, long beans, and watermelons. The main limitation factors were high rainfall and nutrients retention. The results also showed that mustard greens and shallots had a land suitability level of N (not suitable) because of the high rainfall.

Abstract

            The objective of the research was to study effectiveness of garlic extract (Allium sativum) at various concentrations to control golden snails (Pomacea Canaliculata).  The experiment was conducted in Agriculture Faculty, Iskandar Muda University,  Banda Aceh. The experiment applied a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 replicates. Factors evaluated were various concentrations of garlic extract, consisting of 4 levels, i.e. 5 percent, 10 percent, 15 percent, and 20 percent of water. Variables observed were eating activity, mortality, and rate of death.  Result showed that eating activity, mortality, and rate of death were significantly affected by concentrations of garlic extract.

Abstract

Composition and Community Structure Hymenoptera Parasitoid Garden Maintained by Conventional and Organic Coffee In District Aceh TengahABSTRACT. This study aimed to obtain scientific information about the species or group of parasitoids associated with habitat, so as to build a database for the purposes of pest management in the future. This research was conducted in coffee plantations in Central Aceh District and continued identification in Pest Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture UNSYIAH from June to November 2014. This study used a survey method. Insect sampling done by purposive sampling method on coffee plantations were managed conventionally and organically. Abundance of individuals, the number of families and species richness highest Hymenoptera encountered in the practice of organic farming over conventional coffee. Hymenoptera parasitoids composition of coffee plantations are managed organically composed of 13 families, while the coffee plantations were managed conventionally only 7 families. However, Hymenoptera parasitoid community structure on both habitat types are relatively the same because it is dominated by the families Braconidae and Ichneumonidae.

Abstract

Response of shoot of cactus  (Mammillaria myriacantha) to various concentrations of NAA and BAP in Vitro Mardhiah Hayati Fakultas Pertanian Unsyiah Darussalam Banda Aceh ABSTRACT The research was arranged in a factorial completely randomized design 3 x 3 with 5 replicates. Factors evaluated were concentration of NAA (0, 2, 4 mgl-1), and concentration of BAP (0, 3, 6 mgl-1). Variables observed were initiation time, shoot numbers, shoot height, root number at 2 and 4 weeks after culturing (WAC) and life percentage, dead percentage, contamination percentage. The results showed that NAA significantly affected initiation time and shoot numbers at 4 WAC.  The best initiation time was found at concentration of  NAA 4 mgl-1 and the best shoot numbers was found at concentration of NAA 2 dan 4 mgl-1. BAP had significant effect on  shoot number 4 WAC, shoot height 2 WAC, and root numbers at 2 and 4 WAC.  The best shoot numbers and shoot height were found at  BAP 3 mgl-1 but did not significantly differ from BAP 6 mgl-1.  The best root numbers, however, was at no BAP.  There was no significant interaction between both factors.

Abstract

            The objectives of this research were to study effects of cutting internode numbers and urea dosages, and interaction between them on pogostemon bud cutting growth. This research was done at Kajhu Village, Baitussalam Sub District, Aceh Besar District, Aceh Province, from February 15th to April 15th 2011. Experiment was arranged according to Factorial Randomized Complete Block Design 3 x 3, with 3 replicates. Each of replications was consisted of 3 plants, resulting 81 experimental units. The first factor was cutting internode numbers, consisted of 3 levels, i.e. 2, 3 and 4 internodes. The second factor was urea dosage, also consisted of 3 levels, i.e. 1, 2 and 3 g urea/cutting. All cuttings were planted in polybags; one cutting per polybag, filled with 5 kg of soil, with one internode was inserted into the soil. The result showed that there were highly significant interactions between cutting internode numbers and urea dosages on pogostemon cutting leaves and bud numbers at 60 days after planting, which means that cuttings with different internode numbers responded differently to urea dosage increases. The best one was cutting with 4 internode numbers and the best urea dosage was 2 g/cutting.  The best combination was cutting with 2 internodes and 2 g urea/cutting.

Abstract

The objectives of the study was to obtain an effective concentration of B. bassiana to control pests of N. Viridula.  Experiment was performed at Laboratory of Pest, Agriculture Faculty, Syiah Kuala University Darussalam, Banda Aceh. The experiment used a  faktorial completely randomized design (CRD).  Factors evaluated were (1) concentration of B. bassiana consisting of three levels: 2 gL-1 distilled water, 4 gL-1 distilled water, and 6 gL-1 distilled water, and (2) stadia of N. viridula consisting of 2 levels: third instar nymphs and imago. Variable observed were incubation period, mortality of N. viridula, time of death, and percentage of feeding inhibition. The results showed that concentration of B. bassiana and stadia of N. viridula had no effect on incubation period of fungus B. bassiana. Concentration of B. bassiana affected mortality and time of death of nymph and imago N. viridula. Concentration of fungus B. bassiana affected percentage of feeding inhibition. In general, fungus B. bassiana had a high potential on controlling insect N. viridula.

Abstract

The  land utilization of young oil palm with several varieties of upland rice become an alternative to increase the farmers  income in East Aceh. This study was aimed to obtain new varieties of upland rice that can adapt and give high yields on land of the oil palm trees. The research was conducted on dry land in the area of palm oil plantations in Arul Pinang village,  Peunaron sub district, East Aceh from June to December 2014. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) with six  treatments and tree replications. The rice plants ware planted on a plot with sized 2 x 9 m. The rice varieties ware consited of Inpago 4, Inpago 5, Inpago 8, Situpatenggang, Batutegi and Arias. The results showed that the varieties affect the growth and yield of rice. varieties Inpago 8 gave the highest yields which produced about 5.78 tonnes ha-1,  followed by the varieties of Situ about 5:49 tonnes ha-1, and Batutegi  about 4.98 tonnes ha-1.
