Abstract The aim of this study was to improve interaction and learning achievement in mathematics through cooperative learning using concept maps and teaching aids. The research was a classroom action research conducted in 2 cycles. The class was one of the second year classes of the State Senior High School 11 Medan. In the first cycle, cooperative learning using concept maps and teaching aids was conducted. In the second cycle the cooperative learning was also conducted but by enforcing group discussions. Evaluation process was conducted by using self-reflection, group discussion, quizzes, and tests. The results showed that the cooperative learning approach using concept map and teaching aids could improve students’ interaction and achievement. Abstract The objective of this research was to find out the influence of the form of exercises and the type of text on the students’ achievement in reading for comprehension. The exercises consisted of answering questions and making a summary, and the texts were narrative, descriptive, expository, and argumentative. Using the 2 x 4 factorial designs, the research was conducted in a State Junior High School. The results of the analysis indicated that: (1) the form of exercise influenced the students’ achievement in reading descriptive and expository tests. The mean of scores on reading comprehension on descriptive and expository texts achieved by the students trained using summary- making exercise was higher than the mean of scores on reading comprehension test of the students trained using question-answering practice. The form of the exercise did not influence the students’ achievement in reading narrative and argumentative texts. Keywords: reading exercise, types of text

Abstract This research was aimed at finding out the effectiveness of a groundstroke skill instructional model for the beginner tennis players among the 8 university students. The population was the students of the 2001 and 2002 academic years of the Department of Sport Trainer Education, Faculty of Sport Science, of the State University of Yogyakarta,who took the Lawn Tennis as one of their compulsory courses. The sample was 26 students chosen randomly from the total of 48 students of the 2001 academic years students and 22 students chosen randomly from the total of 39 students of the 2002 academic year students. The students of the 2001 academic year took the course conducted by the open instructional model, while the students of the 2002 academic year took the course conducted by the closed instructional model. The results of the analysis indicates that: (1) there is no differences in groundstroke skills between the tennis players learn by open model and those learn by the closed model, (2) the tennis players with high coordination capability perform better groundstroke skills than those with the lower coordination capability, and (3) there is no interaction between instructional model and coordination capability with respect to their effect on the students groundstroke skills. Abstract This research was studying students’ readiness and expectation to the implementation of “constructive active learning”, teaching strategy, to support the competency-based curriculum. A survey with quantitative approach was conducted to third semester students at the Technical Engineering Teaching Education Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, UNY. With simple random sampling technique there were 197 samples of students. Data collecting with questionnaire have been tested its’ validity by rational judgment and validity of construct through with factor analysis. Reliability calculated with Alpha formula of Cronbach. Data analyzed with descriptive analysis. Result of research indicate that: 1) Student expectation to constructive active study according to study demand in applying of competence based curriculum is included at medium-high category with average 111.24 and attainment of score equal to 77.25% 2) Readiness of student in constructive active study according to study demand in applying of competence-based curriculum is included medium-high category with average 147.42 and attainment of score equal to 72.26%. therefore competent active study could be applied, but need efforts to improve of the readiness of student in learning. Abstract This research was aimed at resolving two problems: (1)What Indonesian Language subject matters are appropriate for the students of non-Indonesian Language major? (2) What kind of instructional method is appropriate the students of non-Indonesian major? The subjects of this research are 100 students of non-Indonesian Language major, who have taken the Indonesian Language course at the Sanata Dharma University. The result of this research is as follows: (1)most of the 100 students have the opinion that the Indonesian Language course should be emphasized more on the lesson on writing scientific compositions, and (2)the instructional method used should give the students ample opportunity to conduct individual learning and to do exercise.
