Abstract

United States of America aggression raises many questions about theexplanations on why US aggression against Iraq. The trigger factors todeclare war against Iraq were multifaceted, include: political, economic,ideological, and strategic position. This undergraduate thesis aims tofind the factors that cause aggression of US military forces against Iraqas well as the US government policy toward Iraq which was based on avarious interests. This research analysis uses the theory of realism ininternational relations that based on the pursuit of national interest andnational security. The research concluded that the US aggression to Iraqperiod 2003-2010 was based on the interest of US hegemony in theMiddle East.

Abstract

The impact of technological advancement does not always has apositive effect. For example, one of the negative impact is the growingforms of transnational crime such as human trafficking. As onecontinent from five continents in the world, Asia is the region with thenumber of victims of human trafficking at most. Indonesia is one ofAsian countries which has become a source, destination, and transit ofhuman trafficking. Surely the Government of Indonesia continues tostrive to combat human trafficking in various ways, one of them ispartnership with UNODC. This thesis aims to determine the form ofthe partnership between the Government of Indonesia with theUNODC in combating human trafficking with period 2007-2013. Inthis thesis, author use the theory of Liberalism Institutionalism,because it is considered the most appropriate theory to explain thecooperation between the Government of Indonesia and UNODC. Inthis thesis, author use descriptive-explanative research type to explainand to describe the phenomenon of human trafficking in Indonesia.The results from this research is that the cooperation between theGovernment of Indonesia and UNODC are effective and inaccordance with the needs of the Government of Indonesia especiallyon the aspect of capacity building of Indonesian law enforcementofficial. However, the result from this cooperation does not give apositive implication for the reduction of the number of victims ofhuman trafficking in Indonesia.

Abstract

Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, China, Vietnam, and Cambodia createdCOMMIT and COMMIT SPA. During COMMIT SPAimplementation period 2011-2013, the number of human traffickingincreased in Thailand. Most of human trafficking victims in Thailandare exploited into sexual exploitation and forced labor. The studyaims to analyze causes of human trafficking increased duringCOMMIT SPA implementation. The study result is the increase ofhuman trafficking is caused by Thailand’s interests by using sextrafficking victims in prostitution and sex tourism activities as a drawfor foreign tourists to Thailand and labor trafficking victims inproducing prawns for supermarkets in US and European countries toget economic benefits.

Abstract

Financing factor is the most important aspects to the ongoingactivities of terrorism. FATF was established to implementinternational standards and promote effective measures in dealingwith financial crimes such as money laundering and financingterrorism,and had set up series of recommendations. FATF hasconcerning with Indonesia since Indonesia have been blacklisted byFATF related to financing terrorism. This research uses qualitativemethod with descriptive type. The analysis in this research usesInternational Society Centric Constructivism supported by MarthaFinnemore which assumes that the norm offered by internationalorganizations may affect countries to adopt these norms as theirnational policy. The regime approach is also used in this study,through the basic assumption that international organization plays arole as regulator that require member states to submissive it.Indonesia has national interest in the international world, and this isthe background for Indonesian government to comply with andimplement the FATF nine special recommendations in handling thefinancing of terrorism.The results of this study concluded that byimproving compliance and implementation of the FATFrecommendations, Indonesia could preserve the security and stabilityof the country's efforts to combat the financing terrorism and raisingintegrity in the international community.

Abstract

Drug trafficking is an important issue as it can be the source of theemerging of the other crimes. For several years, Afghanistan has leadthe the supply of illegal opiate to the other countries in the world. As apart of United Nations, UNODC has contribute a lot of significantoutputs along with Afghan Government through The CountryProgramme for Afghanistan. However, by 2012-2013, drug traffickingin Afghanistan increased at the highest point compare to the yearsbefore. This research aims to analyse the constraints of UNODC oncombating drug trafficking in Afghanistan, that caused a significantincrease of drug rafficking in Afghanistan. Descriptive-Analysis typeis used in this research to describe the efforts of UNODC, thenanalyse the constraints of UNODC through the implementation ofCountry Programme. The result shows there are some external factorssuch as economic, socio-economic, and political, from Afghanistan,that obstruct the works of UNODC.

Abstract

Indonesia Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) is one ofthe economic cooperation agreed by Indonesia and Japan, regulatingabout tariff reduction. The study reveals that the economiccooperation conducted by both countries has certain implications forefforts in doing environmental reforms in Indonesia especially in thecase of tuna exploitation where these implications are believed to beable impact the relationship between Indonesia and Japan. Thisresearch is aimed to evaluate said impact on the environment as wellto take a closer look at the IJEPA bilateral relations of both countries.The results of this research indicate that the strategy of Indonesia’sperformance in such cooperation is moderately weak.

Abstract

Piracy is an important issue as it is a threat to maritime security.Somali pirate attacks in the Western Indian Ocean and Gulf of Adenare not only disturbing maritime security, but also causing the actuallosses for piracy victims. International Maritime Organizationformed Djibouti Code of Conduct which was signed by twentycountries in the region. Djibouti Code of Conduct has beenimplemented since 29 January 2009. By 2011, the number of somalipirate attacks in the Western Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden hasincreased from the previous years. Explanative type is used in thisresearch to explain the causes of significant increase in somalipirates attacks when the Djibouti Code of Conduct does exist. Theresult shows there are constraints on Djibouti Code of Conductexistence, namely there is no common interest and the absence ofbenign hegemon.

Abstract

Illicit trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) is animportant issue as it can be the source of the emerging conflicts andtransnational crimes. Indonesia is one of the destination countries of thiscrime. This issue can be a threat for human rights, security, and thedevelopment of the country. Transnational crime theory, liberalinstitutionalism,and international regime, are used in this research.Those theories explain that cooperation and international regime areneeded by Indonesia to solve the Illicit trafficking of SALW. Therefore,Indonesia has adopted UNPoA as a standard to implement the preventionof Illicit trafficking of SALW’s problem in national, regional, and globallevel. However, in 2007-2008, Illicit trafficking of SALW issue inIndonesia decreased after facing a previous significant increase. Thisresearch aims to know Indonesia’s capability to prevent Illicit traffickingof SALW through UNPoA implementation. Descriptive-Analysis type ofresearch is used to describe the history of Illicit trafficking of SALW inIndonesia, then to analyse Indonesia’s efforts through UNPoA byidentifying the obstacles and the stimulant. The results of this researchshows that Indonesia has been good enough to prevent Illicit traffickingof SALW. However, there had been some factors as geographic,economic, socio-culture, law, and foreign policy, that detained the effortsto prevent Illicit trafficking of SALW.

Abstract

Immigrant become an important issue because some state used it for atool to fight for their interest. Tanjungpinang UNHCR discriminativepolicy for the sake of the interest of the donor state resulted a loss inUNHCR independency in giving a humanitarian aid. This researchobjective is to know United States through UNHCR within RefugeeStatus Determination giving in Rumah Detensi Imigrasi PusatTanjungpinang. In knowing that interest, used a theory called realismtheory. The type of this research is mixed methods that analyzed theTanjungpinang UNHCR discriminative policy that favor theAfghanistan nationality immigrant in Rumah Detensi Imigrasi PusatTanjungpinang. The discriminative policy that occur is to favor anAfghanistan nationality immigrants in term of giving the refugeestatus determination. The obtained result by this research shows thatUNHCR discriminative policy are not to bring United States interestto reform their image, but more to fight for their other interest.

Abstract

As a part of counterterrorism tool, the CIA’s armed drone was firstseen attack Al Qaeda in Pakistan on 2004. Some of criticism fromhumanitarian organization claimed that the attacks are inhumane,violate the international law and constitute a war crime. However, theUS government denied and contending that the drone attackscomplied with all applicable law, including the laws of war and thatthe method of attack is effective. This research attempts to explicatehow the US drone attacks in Pakistan and It also analyzes the factorsthat encourage the US to keep using drones as a weapon in counterterrorismin Pakistan despite the fact that the drone attacks havecaused the deaths of civilians in Pakistan.
