Abstract

In 2016, Canada announced that they will implement the United Nations Declarations on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) during the United Nations General Assembly. It is widely known that Canada is home to indigenous communities that consisted of inuit, metis and first nations people. The Canadian government also regulate the lives of canada’s indigenous communities through the Indian Act. The announcement made by Canada raised questions such as why suddenly Canada made the decision and announce such decision in front of international stage. Using decision making theory by Snyder, Bruck and Sapin alongside the concept of human rights and identity, the researcher aims to understand what factors that influenced canada to make such decision. This study resulted in the founding of influencing factors divided into internal and external factors. Dominant party, Canada's identity as a multicultural country, and a protest by idle no more movement were the factors that categorized as the internal factors. Meanwhile, pressures from international organizations, the changed stances of the countries that originally share the same views as Canada, pressures from other countries regarding Canada's stance on UNDRIP, and also the global trend on human rights enforcement were the external factors.

Abstract

Evrazisky Soyuz Molodezhi (ESM) is one of the international organizations actively involved in the Ukrainian conflict. This involvement includes the use of network warfare tactics (stevaia voina), guerrilla warfare (partizanskiye deystviya), forming an anti-US international alliance (‘Coalition of Disatisfied’), and aggressive forms of action. This study aims to explain the motives for ESM involvement in the Ukrainian conflict. This study used a qualitative research method with an explanative research type through the mechanism of idea as road maps approach by Goldstein & Keohane. This study concludes that ESM's involvement in the Ukrainian conflict is influenced by ideas such as the dualism of ‘The Great War of the Continents’, Asimmetrichnaya Voyna, the ‘Coalition of Disatisfied’, and the significance of Novorossiya embedded in Neo-Eurasianism ideology. These ideas influence ESM preferences and the pathways to achieve them.

But the CPEC projects came at a huge risk for Pakistan, as the investment aid from China came in the form of a loan, and the and that the security of CPEC projects are under threat from separatist groups like the BLA. This research’s purpose is to find out the reason behind Pakistan's agreement to conduct a bilateral cooperation with China under the CPEC projects in the period of 2015-2020. This research would employ the liberalism paradigm as the analytic tool. This study hypothesizes that the reason for Pakistan's willingness to cooperate with China is the existence of its domestic economic interests despite of its controversies. The results of this study indicate that Pakistan does have a strong desire to develope its domestic economy, while CPEC plays an important role in this process. In addition, the CPEC was also viewed by Pakistan as a cooperation that could support this country to achieve the Pakistan Vision 2025.

Abstract

The use of technology to oppress individuals is not a new concept. With the emergence of personal computers and the transition from mass use of radio to television, authoritarian governments have use the technology as a means of spying on their citizens, and China has also become a place where technology are being used to ensure that citizens comply with standards set by an authoritarian government. The Uighurs in Xinjiang are a key example of how modern technology has helped facilitate human rights violations. The government has discriminated the Uighurs and put them in exile camps. Furthermore, the Chinese Government uses biometric data to discriminate the Uighurs, where the Government collects fingerprints, iris scans, put chips inside cellular devices, collect blood groups as well as DNA samples. What is done by the Chinese Government is considered to have violated human rights because it has collected biometric data and abused it for acts of discrimination. Moreover, this act of oppression causing them living life with fear, where they should be living with the freedom from fear. This research seeks to see why restrictions are needed in the practice of Biometrics Data Collection conducted by the Chinese Government. This study uses qualitative research methods with an explanatory method. This research uses the theory of human security, with further emphasizing the personal freedom, particularly the concept of freedom from fear. This research argues that these restrictions are needed and that the practice of collecting biometric data by the Chinese Government on Uighurs in Xinjiang is an act that is based on discrimination and constitutes an act of violation of human rights
