Abstract

This study utilizes a qualitative approach to examine the customary practice of land pawning in Semoyo Village. This practice is based on traditional institutions passed down for generations. It involves the direct transfer of land without the need for a written agreement, witnesses, or village officials. The spirit of togetherness and trust in neighbors and relatives facilitate this practice. The borrower surrenders possession of the land to the lender, who can redeem the land within an agreed-upon time frame. In reality, land pawning has been a common practice in Semoyo Village for decades, as landowners have been unable to redeem their land. While the land is under pawn, the borrower has the right to possession and use. However, the land pawning practice in Semoyo Village is susceptible to disputes and coercion, despite being regulated by Article 7 of Law Number 56 PRP of 1960. Nonetheless, Semoyo Village residents continue to practice land pawning for various reasons, such as urgent needs, avoiding selling their land, difficulty obtaining loans from banks, mutual assistance, and obtaining additional cultivation land. Land pawning is only conducted among close neighbors or trusted relatives whose character is well-known.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of Youth and Scouting Education (PGMK) in strengthening student character and identifying the driving and inhibiting factors affecting this process. The research utilized a descriptive approach with a qualitative method, conducted at Universitas Negeri Semarang, focusing on outbound learning for PGMK subjects. The data collection techniques used in this research included interviews, observations, and documentation, while the validity of the data was tested through informant review, member check, and triangulation. Data analysis was conducted interactively by collecting, reducing, displaying, and drawing conclusions from the data. The study found that PGMK played a significant role in developing the soft and hard skills necessary to strengthen participants' character. However, this process was both encouraged and hindered by various factors such as the example of tutors, the curriculum design, the PGMK committee's commitment, stakeholder support, equalization of perceptions among participants, conducive learning situations, learning models, tutors' capacity building and competence, learning intensity and duration, internet connection, and the environment. These findings suggest the importance of considering these factors in designing and implementing effective character education programs for students.

Abstract

Citizenship education aims to cultivate intelligent and responsible citizens. One essential characteristic of a responsible citizen is their active engagement in civic duties, as demonstrated through their attitudes and behavior. This study examines the level of civic engagement among high school students in preserving local culture during the era of disruption. The research adopts a quantitative descriptive approach and collects data from high school students in Cianjur Regency, Indonesia, using a survey questionnaire. The findings reveal that: (1) the level of civic attitude among students in cultural preservation is sufficient, with a score of 55.12%; and (2) the level of civic behavior, specifically real action taken to preserve local culture, is very low, with a score of 9.22%. This suggests that student involvement in cultural preservation needs to be further developed to safeguard local culture. Therefore, future researchers are advised to devise a Citizenship education learning model that can foster civic engagement among high school students in preserving local culture.

Abstract

There are weaknesses both from the perspective and effectiveness of Citizenship Education (CE) which are too oriented towards domestic problems in the context of facing global challenges and problems. Today it is necessary to change the orientation of the Civics curriculum which is globally oriented. In other words, it is necessary to engineer the Civics curriculum development. This paper attempts to present theoretical frameworks for engineering the development of a democratic and globally oriented Civics curriculum. There are at least six theoretical frameworks, namely the Birdcage Theory, Crystal Theory, Tree Theory, DNA Theory, Mushroom Theory, and Amoeba Theory. The six theories have different views, implications, and recommendations in curriculum engineering, including the Civics curriculum. This paper ends with the author's recommendations after considering both the strengths and weaknesses of the six theoretical frameworks.

Abstract

This paper describes the importance of emphasizing a sense of belonging in civic education to foster good citizenship. Several studies indicate that a sense of belonging can help enhance citizens' participation and contribution to society. This article discusses how place attachment can aid in forming a sense of belonging and how sense of belonging can be promoted through civic education. Teachers should consider the context and needs of students in order to create relevant and meaningful learning experiences. Additionally, local wisdom and cultural ties to a place can be integrated into civic education. Therefore, in civic education, sense of belonging can be enhanced through learning experiences that are connected to familiar places or environments. Through effective and place-integrated learning, students can develop a strong sense of identity and belonging, which can enhance their participation and contribution to society and citizenship.

Abstract

Indonesia's diverse religious, tribal, cultural, and linguistic background has resulted in frequent disputes between different groups due to the lack of firmly established civic values. As the majority population, Islamic ummah holds a vital role in establishing and managing a peaceful, fair, and prosperous society. The Qur’an, being the primary source of Islamic law, contains principles and meanings of social values that laid the foundation of the first Islamic country in Medina. Therefore, it is essential for followers of Islam to explore civic values in the Qur’an that can be integrated into Indonesian civic values. However, previous research on the concept of the ummah in the Qur’an that can construct civic values is lacking. This study aimed to address this gap by conducting qualitative research through a library research method and thematic analysis. The study identified civic values in the Qur’an that included unity, self-regulation, justice, honesty, responsibility, moderation, tolerance, rule of law, purity, change, plurality, critical thinking, and becoming a participatory, humanist, emancipatory, liberal society inseparable from the transcendental path. Integrating these values into Indonesian civic values can contribute to establishing a peaceful, fair, and prosperous society that values diversity, justice, and the rule of law.
