Abstract

Background: Typhoid fever is infectious disease caused by Salmonella typhi. The activity of Salmonella typhi can be blocked by antibacterial. Extracts of cherry leaves (Muntingia calabura L.) can be used for alternative medication because it contains of active substance as antibacterial. Objective: This research was aimed to investigate the antibacterial activity of 70% ethanol extracts of cherry leaves in resisting Salmonella typhi. Method: Cherry leaves were extracted by maceration method using 70% ethanol. The extract was determined by phytochemical screening using tube test. The determination of antibacterial activity uses Mueller Hinton which was done by Cup-Plate method. This research used various concentration such as 5.3% b/v, 17.6% b/v, 33.3% b/v and 53.8% b/v. Thick extract of cherry leaves was used as extract control, positive control used 250% of chloramphenicol while negative control used 250% of CMC-Na. Result: The result of the research showed that cherry leaves contain flavonoids, tannins, polyphenols and saponins. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) toward Salmonella typhi is found at the concentration of 33,3% b/v in the 11,7 mm average of diameter inhibition zone. Conclusion: 70% ethanol extracts of cherry leaves has antibacterial activity in resisting Salmonella typhi.

Abstract

Background: The problem that is often seen in water services that the quality of ground water is less qualified as potable water. One of the chemical parameters in water quality requirements is the total of element content of Ca 2+ and Mg 2+ in the presence of water commonly called water hardness. Hardness in water no demand either for domestic use or for industrial use, the maximum levels allowed CaCO3 hardness is 500 mg / L. Most people do not understand about the adverse effects of hard water consumption and processing method was still not right. Objective: This study aimed to determine the extent of the total hardness of water wells in the village Kedungrejo Purwodadi Grobogan district. Method: complexometry titration method. Results: From this analysis obtained total hardness levels ranging from 62.39 - 419.40 mg CaCO3 / L. Conclusion: The level of water wells in the village Kedungrejo Purwodadi including the high classification, seasonal factors also affect the size of the sample when tested. Lack of public awareness of the importance of fresh water consumed and increased use soap.

Abstract

Background: Breast care is an act of caring for breast lactation primarily to launch a spending of breast milk. At the time of parturition breast infection can occur, especially at the mother of primipara parturition. Infection occurs through wound on the nipple and the blood circulation. Objective: The purpose of the research to find the effectivities of health education with the demonstration method and the method lectures of primipara mother?s knowledge about breast care in the region of social health center Kayumas. Methods: This research using quasy experimental design with non equivalent control group and using pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this research was the mother of primipara, with sample as many as 30 respondents. Data analysis Wilcoxon Match Pair Test. Results: Based on results of a Wilcoxon test indicates that the control group with p value 0.317 > p value 0.05 mean knowledge there is no difference. A p value of 0.025 < p value 0.05 mean so there is a difference knowledge on respondent groups were given health education methods lectures, while the p value of 0.014 < p value 0.05 mean so there is a difference knowledge on the group that was given a health education demostration method. After health education with the demonstration method and lectures method, with the results of the p value of 0.014 compared with p value 0.025 means show that there is a difference between the health education by the demonstration method and the lectures method p value 0.014 < 0.025. Conclusion: Health education using demonstration method more effective to increase of primipara mother?s knowledge about breast care in the region of social health center Kayumas.

Abstract

Background: Reading is the way to achieve good academic achievement. Many students take the time to read in order to obtain good results in academic achievement but not pay attention to health in reading can lead to eye disorders myopia, so they need for glass as tools for seeing. Unlike the case with students who rarely read, there is little possibility for irritated eyes myopia. Objective: To know differences abouth achievement between minus glasses student and not in class XII SMA N 1 Boyolali. Research Methods : non-experimental studies with ekspost facto research design with a population of 293 people and sampling techniques with Stratified Random Sampling obtained samples of 44 students and 44 students minus glasses without glasses. Results : independent samples t-test showed the t count (2.658) > t table (1.663) with probability 0.009 <0.05. Conclusion: There are differences in achievement between minus glasses students and not in the class XII SMA N 1 Boyolali.

Abstract

Background: In the elderly, there is a decrease of the brain ability and senility. The decline of memory that happened in the elderly can be fixed by doing brain gymnastics. To handling of dementia can be given by simulation to increase the ability of the right hemisphere that need to give an exercise or game which are need the concentration, orientation, attention to memory and visual. Brain gymnastics is the one of simulations of preventive way to optimize stimulate of brain function to getting better. Goal: Knowing the influence of brain gymnastics toward the level of dementia in the elderly posyandu at Mrisen village, Juwiring, Klaten. Research Methodology: This research used of pre-experimental design research with one group pre-test post-test design. The population in this research is all of the member of elderly posyandu at Mrisen, Juwiring, Klaten. The technique of taking the sample using purposive sampling with 25 respondents. The instrument of this research is using questionnaire of Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE). Result: The result of one group that given treatment by using paired samples T-test showed that there was significance score about 0,000 (p=0,000<0,05%). T count 10,324, T table 2,060. Conclusion: There was the influence of brain gymnastics toward the level of dementia in the elderly posyandu at Mrisen village, Juwiring, Klaten. This is evidenced by the existence of the difference score in pre-test and post-test of MMSE which indicates a decrease in the level of dementia before and after giving treatment of brain gymnastics.

Abstract

Background: dysmenorrheal is a pain at the lower abdomen when the menstruation period along with cramps, dizziness and faint. The sore can interfere the activity and it needs medicine. Dysmenorrhea can be treated by using dysmenorrhoe exercises therapy. Objective: the aim of the study is to find out the effect of dysmenorrhea exercises towards the menstrual pain on female students at STIKES Duta Gama Klaten. Research Method: The research type of this study was pre-experiment design research by using one group pre test post test. The sample was taken by purposive sampling technique which consist of 30 respondents.The instrument used in this study is the Numeric rating scale questionnaire. The data were analyzed by paired t-test. Result: The statistical test results obtained p-value 0,000 (p <0.005). Before the treatment there were 20 respondents with moderate pain level and 10 respondents mild pain level. Then after the treatment there were 29 respondents with mild pain level and 1 respondent without any pain. There is influence of dysmenorrhea exercises toward the menstrual pain on female students at STIKES Duta Gama Klaten. Conclusion: Dysmenorrhea exercises have influence on reducing pain when menstruation period on the female students at STIKES Duta Gama Klaten.

Abstract

Background: Borax and formaldehyde are prohibited from use in food, but it is still found in some products such as noodles and meatballs. Borax and formaldehyde content test can be done using a flame test methods and test methods color. Purpose: To find meatballs sold in Surakarta Muhammadiyah University campus environments containing borax and formaldehyde. Research Method: This study is a descriptive survey with cross sectional design and sampling technique used purposive sampling. The sample in this study amounted to 8 (eight) where each stall investigated two (2) pieces of meatballs. Result: Borax and formaldehyde content test on the sample meatballs sold in Surakarta Muhammadiyah University campus environment using a flame test methods and test methods showed color negative or undetectable samples contain borax and formaldehyde. Conclusion: All of the samples tested meatballs that do not contain harmful preservatives, namely borax and formaldehyde. Meatball samples so it meets the requirements in Permenkes No. 033 Year 2012 on Food Additives.

Abstract

Background: Breast care during pregnancy is an important part of the mother's care as preparation for breastfeeding. If during pregnancy the mother does not perform breast care and breast care is only done after delivery will cause some problems such as breast milk does not come out, nipples sometimes not prominent, milk production a little. Nipple not menonjl cause baby difficult to suck, milk production little or not smooth so not enough to meet baby needs. Objective: To know the influence of pregnant woman's behavior on knowledge of breast care I Puskesmas Jogonalan I Klaten. Research Method: using quantitative descriptive research method. The population in this study were all pregnant women from the first trimester to the third trimester who checked in the KIA Polyclinic Puskesmas Jogonalan I Klaten. The sampling technique was simple random sampling with the number of samples of 44 respondents. The instruments in this study were closed questionnaires. Result: There is an influence of education to knowledge of breast care at Puskesmas Jogonalan I Klaten with p value <0,05 (0,010 <0,05), there is no effect of job to knowledge of breast care at Puskesmas Jogonalan I Klaten with p value> 0, 05 (0,465> 0,05), there is influence of earnings to knowledge of breast care at puskesmas Jogonalan I Klaten with p value <0,05 (0,031 <0,05). Conclusion: There is influence of pregnant woman's behavior toward knowledge of breast care at Puskesmas Jogonalan I Klaten.

Abstract

Background: Fennel leaves (Feoniculum vulgare Mill) has potential as a medicine. The content of polyphenols, saponins, essential oils, and flavonoids found in the leaves show antibacterial effects. Fennel leaf extract is more perfect when formulated in ointment form. The use of ointment may allow direct contact with the skin. Objective: The objective of this research was to know the antibacterial activity and physical characteristic of fennel leaves extract (Feoniculum vulgare Mill) as inhibitor of Staphylococcus aureus. Research Method: This research is an experimental research by using One Group Pretest Posttest method. Fennel leaf extract (Feoniculum vulgare Mill) was obtained by maceration for 5 days. Furthermore fennel leaf extract identified active compounds contained therein. Then fennel leaf extract at concentrations of 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, and 40% were tested for antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus. Fennel leaf extract of 40% concentration is formulated in an ointment preparation with a hydrocarbon base (vaseline album) and water soluble base (PEG 6000). Testing of antibacterial activity using Staphylococcus aureus and physical properties of ointment. Testing of antibacterial activity using Staphylococcus aureus with agar diffusion method with sunuran technique, while for Tests physical properties of ointment include organoleptic test, homogeneity test, scattering, adhesion, power protection test, pH test. The data obtained were analyzed by Anova test statistic and Kruskal Wallis test. Result: The result of identification of active compound of fennel leaf extract have flavonoids, polyphenols, saponins. The base salt of hydrocarbon (vaseline album) and water soluble base (PEG 6000) showed that the spread of both ointment base did not show any significant difference and adhesion showed significant difference. The antibacterial activity of the hydrocarbon base ointment (vaseline album) and the water soluble base (PEG 6000) has a significant difference. Conclusion: The base used in this study has an effect on the physical quality of fennel leaf extract. This is seen from the scattering power value and the attachment power of both formulations. An ointment preparation with a hydrocarbon base (vaseline album) and a water soluble base (PEG 6000) affects the effectiveness of antibacterial ointment.

Abstract

Proses formulasi sediaan dapat memengaruhi aktivitas zat aktif terhadap obat dalam mencapai efek terapeutik, khususnya sediaan yang mengandung antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh emulgator terhadap aktivitas antioksidan krim antioksidan fraksi buah jambu biji merah (Psidium guajava L.). Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental. Metode penyarian yang digunakan adalah maserasi dan remaserasi dengan pelarut metanol 80%, kemudian di fraksinasi dengan n-heksan dan etil asetat sehingga didapatkan fraksi etil asetat buah jambu biji merah. Fraksi etil asetat kemudian di buat krim dengan variasi konsenstrasi 3%, 4% dengan emulgator anionik (Trietanolamin/TEA) dan nonionik (Tween 80). Pengujian aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode DPPH serta diamati stabilitas fisik sediaan yang meliputi uji organoleptis, homogenitas, daya sebar, daya lekat, dan pH. Hasil penelitian aktivitas antioksidan krim fraksi buah jambu biji merah dengan emulgator anionik (Trietanolamin/TEA) dengan IC50 sebesar 5011,022 ppm dan nonionik (Tween 80) sebesar 4636,90 ppm. Penambahan emulgator mempengaruhi aktivitas antioksidan dan sifat fisik krim  pada formula sediaan krim fraksi buah jambu biji merah.
