Abstract

Achalasia is a rare neurogenic motility disorder, occurring in around 0.11 cases per in 100,000 children. Changes morphology of the ganglion in the myenteric plexus can be identified at the LES(Lower Esophageal Sphincter)level. Some researchers have shown a decrease in vasoactive peptide (IVP) immunoreactivity in nerve fibers. In the pediatric, most achalasia was reported during adolescence, more often in boys. The combination of problems named (aperistaltic, LES hypertension, and lack of LES relaxation) results in patients experiencing symptoms of progressive dysphagia, weight loss, and regurgitation. A chest x-ray of a child with achalasia may show a dilated esophagus and air-fluid level. The use of barium swallow will show the esophagus is winding and wide, yet sometimes narrow on the cardia part like a bird's beak. Diagnosis is confirmed by esophageal manometry. Esophageal endoscopic examination is very important to get rid of stricture. Treatment modalities have developed over the past few decades from balloon dilatation and injection of botulinum toxin to laparoscopic Heller myotomy and endoscopic myotomy. Most data on achalasia management is extrapolated to children from adult experience. This article describes an understanding of pathogenesis and discusses newer therapeutic techniques and controversies in management.

Abstract

Hair serves to protect the skin from bad influences, such as eyebrows that protect and prevent sweat that will flow to the eyes. While the nose hair functions as filtering the dust on the nose. Hair also has a role in protection against; adverse environment, including cold or hot temperatures, and ultraviolet light. Hair is not uncommon as confidence. Hair loss to cause baldness is a problem that is enough to worry about high self when they interact. Hair loss can be caused by many factors that are organized into endogenous: due to systemic disease, hormonal, nutritional status, intoxication, or a genetic disorder and exogenous factor in the form of stimulus from the environment and hair cosmetics. Today there are many studies of natural plants or herbal ingredients that can be used to treat hair loss. One of the plants that can grow hair is apple. Apples contain procyanin B-2 naturally found in apples. Apple extract is then made for hair tonic or cream proven to accelerate hair growth.

Abstract

Nutrition is one of the determinants of the quality of human resources. Malnutrition can cause failure of physical growth and development of intelligence, reduce work productivity and reduce endurance. The role of essential nutrients is basically not taken seriously by the community, especially adolescents. Insufficient nutritional needs in adolescents occur due to an imbalance in the intake of nutrients in the diet. The diet of adolescents is currently influenced by their environment, such as friends and media in choosing foods that tend to follow trends, coupled with wrong eating habits such as a vegetarian diet, dislike or abstinence from certain types of food. Vegetarian diets have a high risk for the occurrence of deficiency of several nutrients such as protein, iron, calcium, zinc, copper, amino acids, fatty acids, omega 3, omega 6, vitamin D, and Vitamin B12. Protein is the most high-risk nutrient that is deficient in vegetarians and has a function that is essential for the body in the formation of hemoglobin (Hb), protein plays an important role in the transportation of iron in the body. Therefore, a lack of protein intake can cause iron transport to be hampered resulting in iron deficiency resulting in anemia. Several studies have shown that there is a significant relationship between vegetable protein intake and hemoglobin levels.

Abstract

The Aging skin is a complex biological process involving endogenous or intrinsic factors (genetics, cellular communication, hormones, and mining processes) and exogenous or extrinsic factors (explanation of light, radiation, ionizing radiation, chemicals, and diverted) which are structural changes and cumulative physiological and progressive changes in each layer of the skin and changes in the appearance of the skin such as wrinkles and spots. These factors cause oxidative stress on the skin which triggers damage to cells and skin tissue. At present it is very popular to use anti-aging products. Anti-aging approach is based on the pathophysiology that occurs. So that care can be given to work optimally. Anti-aging can be done using cosmetic treatments, topical agents that contain anti-oxidants and cell regulators. In addition to topical treatments, it can be given systemically or invasively. In this review we will discuss topical anti-aging treatments.

Abstract

Atherosclerosis is a chronic and progressive problem due to the inflammatory response, oxidative stress (OS), lipid deregulation, and epigenetic disorders. Curcumin is the main compound in turmeric and is responsible for turmeric yellow and contains 50% of turmeric. Curcumin has a hypolipidemic effect along with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, it can contribute to reduce the incidence of atherosclerosis. The extraordinary antioxidant content of curcumin reduces lipid peroxidation and oxLDL formation, and consequently, reduces the inflammatory response and the development of atherosclerosis. Another study shows that curcumin can alter gene expression associated with leukocyte adhesion and transendothelial migration in aortic tissue by increasing expression of NF-κB protein inhibitors (IκB) and decreasing NF-κB bonds and transcription activity after stimulation with tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). In addition, it is proven that curcumin can regulate the activation of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), a receptor that recognizes exogenous or endogenous molecular patterns and modulates immune and inflammatory responses. The role of other curcumin for atherosclerosis is smooth muscle cell proliferation. Curcumin is an antioxidant that can be one of the management of coronary heart disease due to be able to suppress the formation of atherosclerosis and reduce cholesterol levels in the blood. It is expected that curcumin can be the first treatment for coronary heart disease.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a disease with impaired carbohydrate metabolism identified by high blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) and the presence of glucose in urine (glycosuria) that occurs due to abnormal insulin secretion, insulin activity or both. Diabetes mellitus is one of the biggest cause of deaths in Indonesia, which is proven by the Data of Sample Registration Survey in 2014 where diabetes became the third cause of death in Indonesia after stroke and coronary heart disease. If not handled properly, it will affect the decrease in productivity, increase disability, premature death, etc. Sambung Nyawa Plants (Grynura Procumbens) has been widely used as a traditional medicine as antihyperglycemic. Sambung Nyawa Plants contains saponin compounds, flavonoids, and alkaloids, which can reduce blood glucose levels. The mechanism of reducing glucose by Sambung Nyawa Plants is by secreting insulin in β-pancreatic cells and regenerating β-pancreatic cell damage, as an antioxidant that can bind free radicals, there by reducing insulin resistance, and inhibiting alpha amylase and alpha glucosidase which can break carbohydrates into monosaccharides that can be absorbed by the intestine

Abstract

Hemorrhoids are dilation of blood vessels from the hemorrhoid plexus. In the United States around 10 million suffer from hemorrhoids. The exact diagnosis of hemorrhoids can be obtained from histopathological examination. Although hemorrhoids are not dangerous, however, if widening of the vein becomes wider, we still need to prevent it. Prevention by increasing eating high-fiber foods, such as fruits and fresh vegetables. One of the minimally invasive actions that can be done is like a rubber band ligation. This action is quite good, easy, and inexpensive because it can be done in a practical place with simple tools and without involving complicated procedures such as the hemorrhoidectomy process. Some studies mention the action of rubber band ligation effectively used in internal hemorrhoids in degrees II and III although there are still minimal complications such as bleeding and a sense of discomfort.

Abstract

Prostatitis is swelling and regulation of prostate reserves, a measure of the size of walnuts placed just below the bladder in men. Prostatitis occurs in men over 50 years of age and it is estimated that about 50% of men question prostatitis during their lifetime. Treatment for prostatitis depends on the cause. Antibiotics are effective treatments for acute bacterial prostatitis. Antibiotic treatment has several factors that must be used using traditional drugs that have smaller side effects compared to materials produced from chemicals, besides that the use of natural ingredients requires a cheaper cost. Green betel leaf (Piper betle L.) is able to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli, Streptococcus viridans, Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio cholera and Shigella dysenteriae.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TBC) is becoming one of the highest causes of death in the world. Tuberculosis is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis that is transmitted via droplet originating from tuberculosis patients. It is estimated that one-third of people in the world have been infected by tuberculosis, but only 10-20% of people will show the symptoms. Symptoms that can arise in tuberculosis are such as bleeding cough, weight loss, night sweats, chest pain, shortness of breath and weakness. Meanwhile, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a retrovirus-famili because of its ability to convert the RNA genome into DNA. HIV transmission occurs due to the entry of this virus into the body through body fluids of people who are already infected by HIV. Both of these infectious diseases alike because both of them can cause a decrease in immune system activities in the body of the sufferer. Collaboration of both diseases is common and is a deadly combination because it interacts with each other in all aspects of the disease, ranging from pathogenesis, epidemiology, clinical manifestations, treatment and prevention. Tuberculosis is also a leading cause of death in HIV-positive patients. In 2016 in Indonesia, there are found 360,565 cases of TBC, with 14% of them are also known to suffer from HIV-positive. The results of the study suggest that there is a mutual relationship between the two diseases in causing a clinical symptoms through decreased activity of the body's immune system.

Abstract

Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is considered a disease that cannot be treated due to irreversible nerve damage. SNHL occurs due to damage to the inner ear/cochlea namely hair cells and supporting cells (HCs and SCs). Hair cells that carry the sound into neurochemical damage are triggered by ROS. There are several factors that affect hearing loss. Insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) belongs to the family of insulin polypeptides, which play a central role in embryonic development and adult nervous system homeostasis by endocrine, autocrine, and paracrine mechanisms. IGF-I is the basis for regulation of cochlear development, growth, and differentiation, and its mutation is related to hearing loss. Low IGF-I levels have been shown to correlate with various human syndromes that show a hearing loss.
