Abstract

ABSTRACT This will discuss multimodal analysis where there are visual and verbal, This study aims to see changes in the visual function of the WHO banner itself which is conveyed through objects that are following the objectives themselves. In this study, the authors also used a qualitative descriptive approach where all data were analyzed with the theory of Kress and Van Leeuwen (2006). Abstract

Abstract  This study discussed about the types of English idiomatic expressions in Paper Towns novel and how those idiomatic expressions are translated into Bahasa Indonesia. The data are collected from English and Bahasa Indonesia version of Paper Towns novel by John Green. This study used the theory by Fernando (1996) and Mona Baker (1992). There are 95 data collected and analyzed. (1) Three strategies are used in translating idiomatic expressions, 19 data are translated using an idiom of similar meaning and form, 6 data are translated using an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar dorm and the mostly used strategy is translation by paraphrase with 70 data. Translation by omission does not applied by the translator. (2) Types of idiomatic expressions are find out, 14 data of literal idioms, 10 data of semi idioms, and the most commonly found is pure idiom with 71 data.    Keywords: Idiomatic expressions, Types of idiom, Translation strategies

Abstract

AbstractThe logo is an identity that is used to describe the image and character of an institution, company or organization. Logo or word mark is the name of an institution, a company or a product that appears in writing to describe its commercial characteristics. Basically, a logo is a symbol that represents the figure, face or existence of a company or  a company's product. In addition to enhancing the image of the company, logos are  often used to strengthen the spirit between components within the company. The results of this study show that the overall logo design is good in terms of color placement and typography. The choice of  the font depends on the readability / display and the size of the font used  also depends on the readability of the logo text. The font used in the logo is adapted to the theme. The colors used can emphasize the logo to create contrast and the correct reading flow.   Average Scored Results for Typography get an average grade of 62.7 and fall into Category C, which is pretty good. And for color, the average  is 67.7 and it's in category C, which is pretty good. Keywords: Logo, Typography, and Colours. AbstrakLogo merupakan identitas yang dipergunakan untuk meng-gambarkan citra dan karakter suatu lembaga atau perusahaan maupun organisasi. Logotype atau tanda kata (word mark) merupakan nama lembaga, perusahaan, atau produk, yang tampil dalam bentuk tulisan yang khusus untuk menggambarkan ciri khas secara komersial. Pada prinsipnya, logo merupakan simbol yang mewakili sosok, wajah, atau eksistensi suatu perusahaan atau produk dari sebuah perusahaan. Selain membangun citra perusahaan, logo juga sering kali dipergunakan untuk membangun spirit secara internal diantara komponen yang ada dalam perusahaan tersebut.Hasil temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa secara keseluruhan desain logo sudah baik dalam penempatan warna dan tipografi. Pemilihan jenis huruf berkaitan dengan tingkat kemudahan untuk dibaca/dilihat dan ukuran huruf yang digunakan berkaitan pula dengan keterbacaan teks logo. Jenis huruf yang digunakan pada logo disesuaikan dengan tema. Warna yang digunakan dapat memberikan penekanan pada logo sehingga menimbulkan kontras dan alur baca yang tepat. Hasil rata-rata penilaia yang sudah di nilai untuk tipografi memperoleh  nilai dengan rata-rata yaitu 62,7 dan termasuk dalam kategori C yang dimana cukup baik. Dan untuk warna diperoleh  nilai dengan rata-rata yaitu 67,7 dan  termasuk dalam kategori C yang dimana cukup baik. Kata Kunci : Logo , Tipografi, Warna

Abstract

Abstract The aims of this study are to analyze the types of code switching by the teachers in EFL online teaching and learning process and to analyze the teachers’ reasons of the use code switching. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The sources of this data were the two EFL teachers at SMAN 7 Medan. To collect the data, the researcher used zoom video recording platform to record the EFL teaching and learning process. Then, Teachers were interviewed after the teaching and learning process. There were three ways of action to analyze the data, they were data condensation, data display and conclusion drawing/verification. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that there were three types of code switching used by the teacher while teaching, namely intra-sentential switching, inter-sentential switching and tag switching. Inter-sentential switching was dominantly used by the teachers, meanwhile tag switching was the lower frequently used by teachers. In line with that, the researcher also found that there were five reasons why the teacher switched their language in EFL teaching and learning process, namely: to translating unknown vocabulary, to manage the classroom, to explain grammar, to emphasize some points, and to give empathy and solidarity.Keywords: Code switching, EFL teacher, intra-sentential switching, inter-sentential switching, tag-switching

Abstract

Abstrak Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jenis kata keterangan yang ditemukan dalam video youtube dengan chenel youtube TV5 Monde. Teori yang dalam penelitian ini  adalah teori Bescherelle (2006). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Ruang Baca Gedung B Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Medan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data untuk penelitian ini adalah chenel youtube TV5 Monde. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis kata keterangan cara ditemukan 14 kali atau 27%,  kata keterangan jumlah 9 kali atau 17%, kata keterangan waktu 7 kali atau 13%, kata keterangan tempat 6 kali atau 12%, kta keterangan penegasan 2 kali atau 4%, kata keterangan penyangkalan 13 kali atau 25% dan, kata keterangan keraguan 1 kali atau 2%. Jenis kata keterangan yang paling umum digunakan video chenel youtube TV5 Monde adalah jenis kata keterangan cara di temukan sebanyak 14 kali atau 27%. Hal ini dikarenakan, kata keterangan tersebut berguna untuk memperjelas suatu kegiatan atau peristiwa yang sedang dibicarakan, agar dialog lebih kuat dan dinamis, serta menambah imajinasi kepada penonton. Kata kunci: tipe kata keterangan, video chenel

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to develop the Whatsapp GIF feature as a medium for learning French in high school. It is limited to the lesson material for class X students and to determine the feasibility of the learning media being developed. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE research method by Reiser and Mollenda (1990), which consists of five steps, namely problem analysis, product design, media development, product design validation and product design review. The stages of this research begin with gathering information and analyzing needs, designing and making teaching materials and their validation with material and media experts. The research data collection instrument is an evaluation sheet for the validator. The data analysis technique in this study used percentage analysis. The final product in this research is a smartphone application, while the results of the validation test are 90% material experts while media experts are 80%. The results of material validation are included in the category (very good) and the results of media validation are included in the category (good). So, it can be concluded that the learning media developed using the Whatsapp GIF feature is declared valid for use in learning French in high school.Keywords: development, learning media, whatsapp gif, French Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan fitur GIF Whatsapp menjadi media pembelajaran bahasa Prancis di SMA. Dibatasi pada materi Les Sentiment untuk siswa kelas X. Adapun hasil akhir dari penelitian ini berupa hadisnya sebuah aplikasi Gif untuk pembelajaran dan mengetahui kelayakan media pembelajaran yang sedang dikembangkan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Research and Development (R&D) dengan menggunakan metode penelitian ADDIE oleh Reiser dan Mollenda (1990), yang terdiri dari lima langkah yaitu analisis masalah, desain produk, pengembangan media, validasi desain produk dan review desain produk. Tahapan penelitian ini dimulai dengan pengumpulan informasi dan analisis kebutuhan, perancangan dan pembuatan bahan ajar serta validasinya dengan ahli materi dan media. Instrumen pengumpulan data penelitian berupa lembar evaluasi untuk validator. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan analisis persentase. Produk akhir dalam Penelitian ini berupa sebuah aplikasi smartphone adapun hasil uji validasi ahli materi 90% sedangkan ahli media 80%. Hasil validasi materi termasuk dalam kategori (sangat baik) dan hasil validasi media termasuk dalam kategori (baik). Jadi, dapat disimpulkan bahwa media pembelajaran yang dikembangkan dengan menggunakan fitur GIF Whatsapp dinyatakan valid untuk digunakan dalam pembelajaran bahasa Prancis di SMA.Kata kunci: pengembangan, media pembelajaran, gif whatsapp, bahasa Prancis

Abstract Reading is one of the four aspects of language skills. Reading including receptive skills, which serve to absorb the information. The low reading proficiency will greatly affect the effectiveness of students' reading. This paper describes the influence of engineering Steve Snyder Tri-focus on effective speed reading class X SMA Muhammaddyah academic year 2019/2020. This study is quasi-experimental. The research sample is the class X-1 and X-2. The research concludes effective speed reading speed of students by using Tri-Focus on high school students of class X Muhammaddyah Rantau Prapat classified in either category with an average value of 72.72. Abstract

Abstrak Assumption toward something that has happened early before an utterance is called presupposition. Studying presupposition helps people clarify a conversation. According to Yule’s theory, presupposition is categorized into six types, which are existential, factive, non-factive, lexical, structural, and counter-factual presuppositions. In this research, the writer attempts to identify and analyze presuppositions found Retno Marsudi’s Speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, on Thursday, 25th May 2021. Descriptive qualitative method is applied since the data is in the form of sentences. The result shows that there are four types of presupposition. Based on the analysis, there are 33 presuppositions, namely 18 existential presuppositions, 1 factive presupposition, 13 lexical presuppositions, and 1 structural presupposition.Keywords: presuppositions, Retno Marsudi, Yule’s Theory

Abstract

Abstract  The purpose of this study was to determine how language acquisition in early childhood aged 4-5 years in PAUD INSANI Medan City. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and large-scale social restrictions, early childhood did not socialize with friends at school so that the vocabulary acquired by children was not as large as usual due to minimal interaction. This research is a qualitative descriptive research where the sample is preschool students. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation and interviews. From this research, it was found that early childhood can say the name according to the picture given, but their knowledge of English is still very minimal. In this study, the author tried to give a picture card of animals and fruits in two languages, when the sample was mentioned, the sample could mention it but the letter [r] could not say it perfectly. Abstract

Abstract   Education in the 2021 century requires students to be able to think critically and teachers or prospective educators must be able to master technology in presenting learning content and materials. Thus, the MBKM educational internship project conducted by Indonesian Language and Literature Education students offers Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) and Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) learning ambassadors to answer today's educational challenges. Teacher competence is an agent of learning in education. The application of the learning ambassador must be followed by the quality of personality competence, social competence, professional competence and good pedagogic competence of prospective educators. This type of research is descriptive with a quantitative approach. The research subjects were the MBKM program interns. The results of the analysis show that the competence of teachers in educational internship students is in good category with an average rating range of 7.16-8.09. The implementation of the internship is accompanied by evaluations from the civil expert validator, servant teachers and accompanying lecturers. Thus, internship students can improve and develop the quality of their competencies based on constructive criticism and suggestions.Keywords: TPACK, HOTS, Internship, and Competence
