Abstract

Isolation of microbes that produce antibiotic found in the sludge of Kamparriver has been carrie out using crowded plate method. The sludge were inoculated inPDA and NA, and incubated for 24 hours. Microbes showing clear zone wereobserved, this indicated the microbes produce antibiotics. The microbes wereisolated and identified. The result showed there were three species Bacillus sp ofwhich potencial to produce antibiotic compund.Key words: microbe, isolation, antibiotic

Abstract

This research was conducted from July - August 2010 in Sungai BakauRegion, Sinaboi Sub Distric, Rokan Hilr Regency, Riau Province. This research aimsto identify spesies mangrove in Sungai Bakau region, lokan abundance and also tounderstand the relationship between mangrove density with abundance of bivalvia. The result showed that 9 species of mangrove were found: Avicennia marina,Avicennia alba, Rhizophora apiculata, R. mucronata, Bruguiera gymnorhyza, Soneratiaalba, S. coseolaris, and Nypa fruticans. Density of mangrove between 743 – 2.001trees/ha. In each stasion, there were 2 kinds of bivalvia such as Polymesoda expansa andPharus sp. The abundance of bivalvia 3.400 – 5.645 organism/m2. The highestabundance was obtained in the 3rd station (5.645 organism/m2), while the lowest was inthe 2nd station (3.400 organism/m2). To found out relation between mangrove densityand bivalvia abundance, the data were analized by using simple linier regretion.Theregression line test between mangrove density with abundance of bivalvia showed theequation Y=686,486 + 2,470 X with determine coefisien (R2) is 0,980.Keyword : mangrove, bivalvia, density, abundance, Sungai Bakau

Abstract

The research conducted from at 14 to 21 May 2009 in Estuary of AekTolang Pandan, North Sumatera Province with aimed to find out macrozoobenthos community structure which includes species, abundance, diversity, dominance anduniformity, to know the relationship of the content of organic matter abundancemacrozoobenthos. The method used was survey method. Primary data obtained fromthe measurements and sampling at locations in the research and analysis in thelaboratory.Macrozoobenthos encountered in the study area there ware 17 generas of 3classes, namely class Gastropoda, bivalva and polychaeta. Individuals from the classof individuals who gastopoda was most often found. The average valuemacrozoobenthos abundance ranged from 33.77 to 197.33 ind/m2, the average valueof diversity index ranges between 1.20-2.17; dominance index value ranges between0.29-0.48; index value uniformity between 0.82-0.94 and the index of similaritybetween 0.23-0.4. Sediment organic matter content of the abundancemakrozoobenthos showed that correlation were middle and higher and positive, itmean higher in organic matter would lead to higher in macrozoobenthos.1)Lecture of Fishery and Marine Faculty2)Student of Fishery and Marine FacultyKeywords: Community, Macrozoobenthos, Estuary of Aek Tolang Pandan

Abstract

The objective of this study is to assess the influence of zeolit biofilteraplication in degrading organic pollutant in waste of tofu industry at combinationanaerobic-aerobic system. This study was carried out in tofu industry at Tampanregion, Pekanbaru. The total amount of wastewater that produced from one smalltofu industry is around 15-20 m3/day, and now is collected in wastewater drainage.Basically this wastewater treatment relies on bacteria in degrading pollutants. Theuse of zeolit is to increase specific surface of media for attaching bacteria. Thesystem consist of one reactor that is made of 5 mm glass, and the volume reactor 140liters. The reactor was equipped with one circulating pump and blower in the aerobiczone. It took 3 weeks for seeding micoorganism. The raw water used in this experiment is waste water from tofu industriesthat have organic compound around 1554 - 2539 mg/l. The water for physical andchemical analysis is sampled daily. It took from raw water and anaerobic-aerobiccolum of reactor. The results showed that the zeolit biofilter gives a big influence todegrade organic pollutant. The efectivity process in decreasing organic compundvalue ± 90% better than non zeolit biofilter.

Abstract

This research was conducted in May 2009, in the waters of Muara Aek Tolang Pandan Central Tapanuli of North Sumatra Province. The purpose of this study wasto map the distribution pattern of nitrate and nitrite content and O2 content (DO)dissolved in the mouth of the river Aek tolang horizontally. The method used in thisresearch was survey method. The primary data obtained from direct measurementsand sampling directly in the field and then tabulated and analyzed in the laboratoryare discussed further in descriptive, while secondary data related to research obtainedfrom the relevant authorities. spreading pattern of Nitrate and Nitrite concentrationdistribution was influenced by tides and currents. It can be seen by the differences inconcentration at the surface and ground waters at high tide and low tide at the samestation point. At the time of ups and downs have a much different variations on eachstation. The concentration of dissolved O2 measurements conducted at research sitesat high tide waters ranged from 111.6 ppt - 442.3 ppt. Based on measurements takenin Coastal Estuary Aek Tolang Pandan then the quality of waters in the study area nogood. Keywords: Nitrate and nitrite content, O2 content (DO)dissolved, Spreading

Abstract

This study was carried out in March to April 2010 at Dumai fishing base. It aimed to learnthe correlation of fishingtrip frequencies of gillnetter on the amount of logistic needed indifferent monsoon seasons (i.e. north and west monsoon seasons). Field survey methods wereapplied and regression analysis was used for further analysis. The result showed that there were strong correlation between the fishingtrip frequenciesand the logistics needed for both seasons. Moreover, the correlation index of the fishing trips andthe logistics, in term of fuels and ice, was lower in the west monsoon season than the eastmonsoon season. In contrast, the correlation index was bigger in term of the freshwater for thetrips for both monsoon seasons. The linier regression lines for each analysis were Y = 153.34 X –23.044 for Fuels; Y = 255.9 X + 37.785 for Ice; Y = 168.05 X + 6.5913 for freshwater during thewest monsoon, while Y = 159.95 X – 29.826 for fuels; Y = 314.59 X + 61.927 for Ice; and Y=154.47 X – 14381 for freshwater during the east monsoon.Key word: fishing trip frequency, fishing logistic

Abstract

A study aims to understand the morphological characteristics and growthpattern of Wallago leerii obtained from the Kampar River has been conducted.Morphological characteristics studied were sex ratio, morphometrical and meristicalcharacteristics and also growth pattern (length-weight relationship, condition factorsand otolith) of the fish. During the sampling period, 346 fishes were caught (125males and 221 females). Body length and body weight of the males ranged from330 to1020 mm and 260-10500 gram, while that of the female was 300-920 mmand 140 - 8700 gram respectively. Sex ratio of the fish was 1 : 1.8, it means thatduring the reproductive activities, the number of female may more than the male (1male may fertilize 1.8 females).Equation of body length-weight relationship of the male was W = 384.0L0.068, , while that of the female was W = 374.5 L0,083, and that of all fishes (maleand female) was W = 378.8L0.073. Correlation coefficient (r) was 0.924 for themales and 0.950for females. It means that increasing body length is alwaysfollowed by increasing body weight and growth pattern of the Wallago sp wasallometric. Condition factor of the fish was 0.0517-0.2016, (0.0517-0.2016 formales and 0.0519-0.1447 for females). Based on these data, it can be concluded thatthe fish body was slightly compressed. Keywords : Wallago leerii, sex ratio, growth pattern,Otolith
