Abstract

This study was to determine the relationship between knowledge about the dangers of inhalationand the social environment of adolescents to the abuse of Fox glue. This study used a Cross-Sectional Design experimental design. The research subjects used in this study were 64 adolescents in the Pidada Panjang village, Bandar Lampung. Selection of subjects using simple random sampling technique by taking samples from members of the population at random without considering the existing strata. In this study, using data collection techniques with three instruments, the first instrument is knowledge of inhalation hazards (Asti, 2014), the second instrument is the influence of the social environment (Hidayat, 2016), and the third instrument of inhalation abuse changed by the researchers themselves. The data analysis technique used was Univariate and Bivariate. The results showed that there was a relationship between knowledge about the dangers of inhalation (p-value = 0.003) and the social environment of adolescents (p-value = 0.000) on the abuse of Fox glue. The findings of this study prove that knowledge about the dangers of inhalation and the social environment is related to the prevention of inhalation abuse (Fox glue) in adolescents. The higher the knowledge about the dangers of inhalation and a good social environment, the higher the preventive measures against inhalation (Fox glue)

Abstract

Siblings of special needs child are often seen as neglected children, especially when the special needs child needs more attention from their parents. This study aimed to find out the dynamics of sibling relationships with a down syndrome child. A phenomenological qualitative approach with data analysis of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was chosen as the research method due to its suitability with the purpose of this study. The data were collected using in-depth semi-structured interviews on two biological older sisters (24 and 20 years old) of a boy with down syndrome (12 years old). The selection of subjects used a purposive sampling technique, which was based on the specified criteria. Three main themes were found in this study, namely (1) the functions of parents’ role, (2) acceptance towards a sibling with Down syndrome, and (3) sibling relationship. The results showed that the parents’ role in introducing the Down syndrome from the beginning helped the subjects accepted their sibling’s special needs. The subjects’ acceptance was expressed through their actions in supporting their younger sibling to become independent. Each subject also showed a sense of care in their own ways. Sibling relationships with a Down syndrome child were indicated by the existence of warmth, conflict, rivalry, role, engagement, stress, concern, and coping mechanisms.

Abstract

Natural disasters that occur over a long period of time and the level of damage that occurs often affect the psychological condition of the individual causing individuals to experience traumatic experiences that are hard to forget. Traumatic experiences experienced as a result of natural disasters also influence one's view of the natural disaster itself. Some people may have rational views while others have irrational views. This irrational view often makes individuals feel even more traumatized by the bad experiences they have experienced. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effectiveness of rational emotive behaviour counselling in reducing irrational beliefs experienced by people experiencing natural disasters. The research method used was quantitative with an experimental design. The research subjects were earthquake victims in Tomara Village, South Halmahera Regency who had irrational beliefs in the high category based on the results of filling in data from the irrational belief scale. The results showed that rational emotive behaviour therapy counselling was effective in reducing irrational beliefs experienced by people experiencing natural disasters.

Abstract

Spirituality and religiosity can be assets for adolescent development. The purpose of this study is to describe the development of faith that occurs in adolescents. This research is a literature study, where the data required in this study were obtained through analysis of various literature. The results of the study can be explained that adolescents who are at the high school education level and aged 14-18 years are at level 3, namely synthetic-conventional faith. In this case, adolescents begin to develop formal operational thinking and begin to integrate learned faith values into a more rational faith system. For adolescents, this is an intellectual challenge to be able to become a foundation for understanding faith that will continue to develop in developing an understanding of faith in the future. This result implies the importance of guidance and counselling teachers to develop guidance and counselling programs that aim to help students achieve age-appropriate religious development.
